“Scrappy Squares” by Anne M. Bray | Style Imitating Art

It is time to get your style game on with the next Style Imitating Art challenge.

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of Meadow Tree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as presenter, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the presenter by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the presenter will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join either! In fact, you don’t even have to join but you can still use the art to inspire an outfit just for the sake of trying something different. If you want to share your inspired outfit, we invite you do so on Instagram or any other social media platform that you prefer. Just be sure to tag SalazarTerri, and Shelbee or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

This Week’s Presenter

It is my turn again. I have had this piece picked out from the beginning because I think it is really super fun and it is very special as it was inspired by me! So now I am going to be inspired by it in return.

About the Art

My dear friend Anne M. Bray of SpyGirl began creating a series of Scrappy Squares last summer by upcycling unwanted fabrics and garments into these adorable little poofs of fabric art. This particular scrappy square is my favorite because it was inspired by me and then named after me! How fun is that?

I had gifted Anne a yellow paisley scarf/poncho thingy many years ago and while she did love the color and print and the easy flowy style of the garment, she absolutely abhorred the polyester fabric. Since Anne does not waste things or allow them to go unused, the yellow paisley thingy was upcycled along with some striped and bee print fabrics in coordinating colors. And now the paisley polyester thingy is the ShelBee Scrappy Square!

Since my clothing inspired the art, I now want the art to inspire your clothing! But you are not limited to just the ShelBee Scrappy Square for inspiration. Anne has created 50 of these delightful little darlings and you can choose whichever one you want to inspire your style. If you click on the image below, it will take you to Anne’s page where you can click on each separate Scrappy Square to enlarge it. You can also scroll through Anne’s Instagram back into the summer of 2021 to see all the individual posts for each Scrappy Square.

Edit: Anne has shared some links where you can better see her Scrappy Squares. Thanks, Anne!

This is not the first time that I inspired Anne’s art either! I was one of the bloggers who inspired her Fashion Rainbow exhibit back in 2016. I own the original art featuring my likeness as well as the Fashion Rainbow scarf she had printed with all 50 blogger sketches.

Also, my boys and I participated in Anne’s #AtoZchallenge in 2020 for her Stitching the World project where she stitched 117 rainbow paths that represent the participants’ answers to four questions: Where are you from? Where are you now? Where do you want to go? What color is your journey? Somewhere on this gorgeous quilt there are three colorful lines that represent me and my boys!

If you want to be featured with your art inspired outfit in my gallery post on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, be sure to submit your photos to me at shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com by 10:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. Happy styling!
