Scarves are My Thing
Before I started blogging and was researching the entire process, many of my resources were suggesting that I find my signature style and be able to precisely articulate it. This was very difficult for me because I really do not fit into a neat little precisely articulated package in fashion…or in anything really. I like preppy styles. I like vintage fashion. I like current trends. I like bohemian styles. I like throwback hippie clothes. I like chic and sophisticated looks. I like structured pieces. And I like loose flowing items as well. I like shoes. Literally all shoes. I like necklaces and wearing them alone or layered. I only recently started to like stacking bracelets and changing up my earrings. I don’t really like handbags as I don’t have the time to change out bags to match outfits and I need a bag big enough to hold all of my mom essentials. So you will rarely see me with a handbag in photos.
So where does this leave me? An imprecise, unarticulated style enigma? Maybe. But I can say this with certainty…I like jeans. Really like jeans. Jeans are the best article of clothing for this stay at home mom. I can dress them up, down, or anywhere in between. But in the end, I am still just wearing my same old trusty, comfortable, durable jeans.
And scarves. I really love scarves. If I had to have a trademark piece it would have to be a scarf. In the cooler seasons, I wear scarves for warmth. All day. Every day. Inside the house and out. My neck is always chilled. So I always wear a scarf. I’m warm and toasty and they look cute. Scarves have become so much a part of my style over the years (I have accumulated quite a few, to say the least) that I feel something is missing without one. I can’t put them away just because the weather turned warm. I just switch to lighter weight scarves and don’t wrap them as snugly around my neck. So I guess my thing…my true trademark thing…is scarves.
Check it out:
What is your trademark piece? Your thing? That defining piece that you feel incomplete without?
Keeping it on the edge,
Shelbee

I would define your style as eclectic 🙂 like my own. I like it all !!
And with the scarves in mind your style definition would also include “signature scarves”.

As one scarf loving lady to another, I absolutely get that it’s your trademark! My scarf collection is ever growing and will one day fill the whole house I’m sure!
My trademark is definitely the beret! I love wearing them although it’s not so easy in Summer but hey, Summers in the UK tend to be short and sweet so it’s only really about 3 months when I’m not wearing them!
http://petitesilvervixen.blogspot.co.uk/
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
My scarf collection is slowly creeping out of its bins and falling off its hanging rack! And you look so adorable in your berets! I know the feeling of having to pass on our trademark when it’s just too warm. But summers are short where I live, too, so we have that going for us! Thanks so much for stopping by!

I love you AND your scarves! And jeans even. I have added so many to my collection too this year, I love how it can make a simple outfit pop or seem so much more “feminine”. I too like them in all seasons, even in the house on chilly days. Thanks for helping me expand my collection and justify having more than I had just a few months ago.

Ha! Thanks, Amy! I love you, too. And I have 2 more awesome scarves that I picked up for you during my ventures the last many weeks you’ve been gone! But you will be home in a few days! Yay! I can’t wait to see you.

I don’t know why the research would say one needs to find a signature style to blog about fashion, because I know a few blogs like that, and I find them boring. Initially, I might really like their blog, but if they are wearing the same thing day after day, it just gets old. I’m with you…I wear everything. It all depends on what kind of mood I’m in, the event, and the weather. As yes, to scarves. I have a gazillion of them too! And I wear mine in the house as well. I’m always freezing, and they help me keep me warm. I especially love to wear them in the spring/fall when the temps fluctuate so much during the day.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Amy, thank you so much for those words! Here, I was worried that I was all over the place never realizing that I was NOT being boring! That actually really made my day! I totally get dressed based on mood. I have never been able to plan an outfit the night before. Ever! And I will always be a crazy scarf lady, I guess. And that’s cool because that’s just me! Thanks for stopping by.

Emily Green
You are definitely fantastic at accessorizing with scarves! I loveee the feeling of one around my neck. It’s like a little headrest you get to carry around with you:) I love the Burlington Coat Factory scarf, and the one above it! I’m also all for jeans, I just hate that I can’t wear them often. I try to find as many white and black pairs as possible to be able to get away with them at school. I think I like exploring different styles. If anything, blogging has taught me that while I do have a style I lean toward more, I really really enjoy being able to mess around with lots of them!
Emily
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Emily! There is a certain comfort, security blanket-like, that a scarf brings, right? It is definitely fun to change up our styles and play around until we find what we are really comfortable in. Or even to just explore a different, sassier side of ourselves. It’s nice that you can find jeans these days in so many different colors and cuts so that you can still wear them in a setting where “blue jeans” may not be acceptable! Thanks for stopping by!

Scarves are definitely a fun way to add interest to a look! Sadly, I stopped wearing them when I cut my hair a couple of years ago. It’s exactly the wrong length for scarves now (the scarves smoosh up the bottom of my hair and that annoys me, LOL) so I guess I’ll just have to admire your collection!
Gina || On the Daily Express
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Oh no, Gina! I did have that happen to me when I cut my hair short, too! So then I cut it even shorter in the back so that wouldn’t happen anymore because it was driving me crazy, too! Before I cut it shorter though, I went to a crazy messed up in the back style. And all so I could wear my scarves! I hope you find a scarf solution that suits you!

scarves are the best!
I actually sort of disagree with sites that recommend finding a “signature” style. It sort of limits the endless possibilities that is fashion and style! It’s all about experimentation and surprising elements that make the ultimate outfit unique from others who have similar pieces as you. =)

Natalia Lialina
I am very much the same way – I just like (almost) all of it. There are people with a great vision in fashion, just like there are such artists in any art form, and they develop their own personal style and bring it to the level of fine art. It is a very focused vision, and as a result usually it is one defined style. But there are also many people like you and myself who just like to play and try different things in different styles. We’ll see where it takes us. 🙂 I am recently into vintage style dresses, everything from 1930s to 1970s. I also have a collection of scarves, they are a great accessory and practical too. You look beautiful and confident in your outfits! I can tell you don’t overthink them – just go with your guts. I like such easy relaxed approach to dressing. 🙂
Thank you for leaving a lovely comment on my post!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you, Natalia! That is a brilliant approach to fashion and style! I love vintage clothing but it never fits me quite right! But I certainly enjoy seeing it on people who can wear it and I have a great appreciation for all styles and trends through the generations. Fashion has always fascinated me, but I am only recently honing in on that. Thanks for visiting!
