Return of the Frankenstein Dress & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #727

Do you remember the Frankenstein dresses that I made last summer? Archie coined the term “Frankenstein dress” because I take parts of other garments and combine them to make a new and different garment. Similar to the way that Dr. Frankenstein took parts from other bodies and put them together to create his monster.

This is another Frankenstein dress from last summer’s projects. I still have another one that I haven’t even worn yet. For this particular upcycle project, I used this graphic tee shirt from four years ago and a brown knit maxi skirt that I have had forever. I don’t think I have ever successfully styled this skirt but I could never get rid of it because I love the color and it’s really soft. The waist band was large enough that I was able to attach it to the shirt without cutting the skirt at all. I had to cut the tee shirt graphic in half, however, to have the waist where I wanted it. I sewed the cut off part onto the skirt so that my dress had a complete phrase instead of just “I run on coffee (comma)”.

I also made a heart shaped patch from the leftover tee shirt material and added it to the left hip of the skirt. I accidentally caught the skirt in my scissors and made a rather noticeable cut in the fabric. I was a bit upset with myself but I quickly patched the hole with a heart and then it ended being what Bob Ross would call a happy little accident.

I really like the combination of these fall colors for this very comfortable tee shirt dress. My only issue with the dress is that the graphic is no longer true. I do not run on coffee, chaos, or cuss words. I do still drink coffee but I cold turkey quit caffeine about a month ago. Let me tell you about that struggle. I am still tired. But I am determined and will not go back! And chaos has never really been my thing. We have a fairly structured, calm, and not very chaotic lifestyle and that is where we thrive. So no chaos here either. But cuss words. I do like cuss words. A strategically placed cuss word can pack a powerful punch and I don’t hesitate to drop them when the inspiration hits.

The rest of this outfit consists of things I have worn many times before including a pair of red and white thrifted earrings and a long dark purple cardigan (also thrifted), my Michal Golan choker, my brown straw fedora, and my favorite Bed Stu boots.

These photos were taken last year before my boots were repaired. I really liked this outfit a lot when I wore it. I think I need to wear it again soon.

Here is a look at all five of my Frankenstein dresses. If you click the photo, it will take you to the full blog post. I have another Frankenstein dress made from this skirt that I haven’t worn yet. I also have two more in my upcycle pile that need to be assembled. I am using my Willie Nelson tee shirt for one and my Def Leppard tee shirt for the other. I found two really cute maxi skirts on a thrifting trip that are going to be so cute once I transform them into new Frankstein dresses!

I don’t wear graphic tee shirts very much but I have a giant pile of them. This is a great way to give them new life and create a wardrobe filled with one of a kind pieces.

I hope you all a most wonderful weekend! I am off to do all the things that need doing.
