Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Winter Layers & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #260
Coming out of the holiday season, Nancy and I decided to share New Things for the New Year, but now that winter in the northern hemisphere has put many of us in a deep freeze, Winter Layers seemed to be an appropriate theme. So for this month’s Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, we are looking for your favorite layered up cold weather outfits. Or maybe you have a layered winter outfit that was a total fail but worth sharing anyway. This is all for fun anyway!
What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book?
It is a monthly series that Nancy and I both publish on our blogs on the 15th of each month. Anyone who would like to participate and be featured can send us their photos with a short description explaining if the item was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to. You do not have to be a blogger to join. Anyone is welcome. We will give you the theme for the next month in each post. Photos will be due to us by the 10th of the month. So please join us for February by sending some photos and descriptions of your favorite (or least favorite) Winter Layers to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to info@nancysfashionstyle.com by February 10, 2022. You are welcome to submit more than one photo if you would like features on both of our blogs.
*By joining The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, you agree to receive a monthly email reminders.
Having lived in a frigidly cold climate for the past 8 years, I have become a master of winter layering. I am going to share some of my favorite layered outfits for cold weather to hopefully inspire your cold weather style game. I tried to share outfits that have at least 3 obvious layers on the top half of my body.
I hope you could find some stying inspiration for these long cold days of winter. How do you wear layers during the winter months?

Just love the spotty outfit and ‘woman with a dog’ without a dog! You always turn layering into an art form Shelbee just beautiful, but coping with bulk when you’re smaller can be a bit a challenge!

Thanks so much, Pamela! You know, I never appreciated my height when I was younger. I absolutely hated being taller than most other women but it definitely gives me more styling options than if I were petite. I figured that all out through blogging. After learning how to dress my own tall frame, I subsequently have become the worst at offering any kind of style advice for petite people! But you are right…too many layers can add too much bulk to a petite frame and overwhelm it. I guess super thin tight layers are the way to go. Maybe?

Definitely a time for layering! I will add a big scarf over my cotton shirt and wool sweater to stay warm in a 6th grade classroom today.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Big scarves are the best creation ever, Michele! I have them folded and draped across every seat in the house that my butt frequents! They are like mini blankets to grab any time a chill hits! Stay warm today, my friend!

My favorite part about styling winter outfits is having fun with layering. All of these outfits are fabulous!

Thanks so much, Jill! I do love how creative one can get with layers, too. I generally wear layers all year round…lighter ones in the warmer months obviously. Haha. Have a fabulous day, my friend!

I absolutely love the tie dye outfit & the red plaid jacket with jeans. Both of them are so me! I’ll be layered up for awhile…we have another storm coming this week. Stay warm my friend! xo

Thanks so much, Debbie! I will also be all layered up…until at least May! I think that same storm might be hitting us as well. We are supposed to get about 9 inches of snow tomorrow night through Sunday…on top of the 3 feet of solid frozen snow that is covering everything right now! Stay warm, my friend!

You have definitely mastered the art of layering and adding color to those dreary winter days. And passed those good jeans (genes?) onto your son! Haha! Have a great day!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Laura! This winter has been so dreadfully gray and inhumanely cold that I had to find a way to brighten (and warm) things up! Layering is where it’s at. Ralphie was so awesome with his outfits and then he just bailed on me one day! I hope you have a fabulous day, my friend!

You really are the master of layering! Incredible! Thanks for the party.

Aw, thanks so much, Amy! I have to stay warm! It has been so brutally cold this winter and now there’s more snow coming! Have a great day, my friend. Stay warm!

You’ve mastered the art of layering with colors, patterns, and textures that complement each other to create interesting outfits. Lots of fabulous looks!
Thank you for hosting the link-up.

Thanks so much, Carol! When one lives in an inhumane arctic climate, you learn how to masterfully layer without looking like Randy from A Christmas Story! Although sometimes I do still end up looking like that kid! And I had to go research to find Ralphie’s little brother’s name from A Christmas Story only to discover that the actor who played Randy is my age now…well if that doesn’t illustrate how quickly time can fly! I hope you are having a fantastic week, my friend!

Oh my gosh, I just watched that YouTube clip again and I am laughing so hard! Good comedy has some serious staying power, doesn’t it?!

To hard to pick a favorite! You are a layering pro! I do love the cute hat and the red plaid outit. Ralphie looks so stylish in his mixed prints and blazer. 🙂 Love the polka dots outfit too. I don’t have to do too much layering- Jan is about the coldest month- but that doesn’t stop my love for coats! 🙂
Enjoy your day!

Thanks, Jess! You know I have to layer around here or I would freeze to death in this inhumane weather! Jeff and I still have our hearts set to move your way once the kids finish school. Ten more winters seems undoable sometimes, but if I keep escaping to North Carolina in the winters when I can, I can bear the North Country for 10 more winters. I am really looking forward to heading your way in a few weeks. We have another storm hitting us this week with predictions of 8-12 more inches of snow on top of the 3 feet already on the ground!

Oooh, I can’t wait to see! Did you get any snow in Asheville this winter? I know my friend Becca got some in Tuckasegee which is about an hour outside of the city but wasn’t sure if the city got any. I am so looking forward to heading your way in a few weeks!

Midlife and Beyond
Love all of these layered looks, Shelbee. I am a big fan of layers, especially in midlife – hot one minute then freezing cold the next! Thank you so much for the lovely, kind words you said in Jacqui post last week, I was really touched and it was very kind of you. Enjoy the rest of your week. Wrap up warm as it looks freezing where you are!
Alison xx
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Alison, thank you so very much! I hear you on the midlife temperature changes. I go to bed in 14 layers and wake up naked and drenched in sweat needing to launder all the bedding but too cold to get out of the bed to freshen up. This menopause business really is something else! I really enjoyed reading Jacqui’s post about you. It is so fun to learn more about my favorite blogging friends! I hope the rest of your week is splendid!

Thank you so much, Shelbee. Hope you find some solutions to the hot and cold moments, especially during the night…..us girls need our beauty sleep! I know I do or I turn into Godzilla! Take care. xx

Thank you, Alison! Interrupted sleep is such a nuisance but I think I have grown accustomed to it now. Haha. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

Thanks for the reminder! I wore an outfit just a few weeks ago and the day I pulled it together I just KNEW it was going to perfect for this good buy/good bye theme.

Love how colorful you are in the winter!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Aw, thanks, Tamar! I have been trying to be more colorful this winter because I usually fall back on my old reliable blacks and grays when I am getting cozy for the cold weather. I hope you are having a great week!

Alexandra
A lot of great layering ideas! I don’t usually layer much. I suppose just a jacket if anything.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you so much, Alexandra! I have always been a fan of layers but didn’t do it all that often either until I lived in this frozen place! I hope you are having a great week, my friend.

Marsha Banks
Fabulous layering, Shelbee! I tend to stay inside and just add layers of throws and afghans! We are expecting several inches of snow on top of ice over the next couple of days. I think I might try a snowy photo shoot!
Thanks for the link party, my friend!
https://marshainthemiddle.com
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you, Marsha! I do the same! Haha. One of my neighbors started this joke that you know it’s winter when Shelbee starts wearing all of her clothes at the same time! Haha. I just keep adding layer after layer as well but it’s usually like a hoodie then a cardigan then a poncho then a blanket scarf. If it gets too cold, I throw my giant bathrobe over the whole thing! I don’t use the blankets though because they get in my way. That’s Ralphie’s jam. As soon as he gets home from school, he removes his shirt first then wraps himself in his favorite fleece blanket for the rest of the night until he needs a shirt for school again.
I think I am going to try for a snowy photoshoot this week as well. Although all of my photoshoots are snowy these days. But the freshly fallen snow is always the best. It looks like this snowstorm is hitting a huge portion of the country. We are supposed to get 8-12 inches but it could miss us entirely, too. Have fun playing in it and taking photos! I look forward to seeing them!

You have such unique pieces in your closet to create these amazing layered winter looks! My favorite piece is the red and black plaid jacket! It’s perfect to dress up a pair of blue jeans like you did!
Thanks for hosting the linkup! Stay warm!! We were just hit with some more winter weather and school cancellation!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you, Ellie! That jeans and red plaid jacket outfit is one of my favorite outfits on the blog! I felt so sassy wearing that. We are in a winter storm right now as well. The kids got out of school early yesterday and they have a delay today. I think we got maybe 6-8 inches overnight and my kids will still have school! That’s what happens when you live in a place where it snows alllllllll the time. Stay warm, my friend!
