Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Halloween & Link Up On the Edge #264
October 1 is the official start of Halloween season in my house. However, we haven’t yet pulled out all of the spooky porch decor. That is our plan for this weekend…shopping for new scary porch things and then creating our best front porch gory creep-ville to date. I never really got into the Halloween spirit until a few years ago when my kids began to show a certain passion for this holiday and now I can’t be stopped! I am having so much fun embracing the Halloween vibe…on my porch and in my closet. So for October’s Good Buy/Good-Bye Book theme, Nancy and I have chosen Halloween. That can mean Halloween costumes or just Halloween themed clothing. Heck, if you just want to share your Halloween decor with us, you are welcome to do that, too. Just come join us for some silly spooktastic fun this month!
“On Halloween you get to become anything that you want to be.”
Ava Dellaira
What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book?
It is a monthly series that Nancy and I both publish on our blogs on the 15th of each month. Anyone who would like to participate and be featured can send us their photos with a short description explaining if the item was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to. You do not have to be a blogger to join. Anyone is welcome. We will give you the theme for the next month in each post. Photos will be due to us by the 10th of the month. So please join us for October by sending some photos and descriptions of your favorite (or least favorite) Halloween styles to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to info@nancysfashionstyle.com by October 10, 2021. You are welcome to submit more than one photo if you would like features on both of our blogs.
*By joining The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, you agree to receive a monthly email reminders.
Now let is take a walk through Halloweens past here on the edge to see what kind of inspiration can be stirred up. I will also share some other outfits that would work as costumes as well.

I looooove Halloween! Sadly we don’t do anything here about that. But I think I will decorate a bit!

I love that you will do your own Halloween thing in a place that isn’t so Halloweeny, Nancy! I hope you enjoy every spooky moment of the holiday!

I love Halloween! Such a fun time of year- to me it’s the real start of fall! Costumes, candy, and creative decor – bring it! Love your ‘costumes’ over the years!

Thanks so much, Gwen! I really feel like Halloween is the official start of fall as well. I love all the fall things straight on through until Christmas!

What a round up of great Halloween dressing! I am not at all creative when it comes to putting together a costume for myself and rarely dress up. We did go to a party last year and dressed up, it was fun!
Thanks for the link up and I hope you have a terrific weekend!

You always have the best costumes! I never get dressed up because I’m so lame. But maybe this year. Lol! Thanks for the link up my friend and for all the Halloween vibes. Can’t believe it’s Ocber 1st!

shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Kathrine! I get dressed up but I really try to make my costumes more like actual outfits. Then I don’t feel quite as silly and I am more comfortable. Although my costume plans this year might be less comfortable than I had hoped for. Stay tuned…

Halloween is my favorite holiday to decorate but I rarely dress up. I always struggle with coming up with costume ideas when we have a party to go to. Love these creative costume ideas!
Jill – Doused in Pink
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Jill! I like to come up with costumes that could mostly pass for actual outfits because then I am just as comfortable wearing it as any other outfit I might wear. I don’t like to take it over the top with makeup and other crazy Halloween accessories because I still want to be comfortable especially if I am at a party. I hope my Halloween outfits gave you some inspiration to make it easier this year!

Such a fun post. I loved Halloween when the kids were little, although I don’t like the scary part of Halloween. I just can’t stand all the horror movie commercials that are the tv this time of the year. Now that I don’t have little kids anymore, we don’t celebrate Halloween at all.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Amy! Oh my gosh, I hate all the scary parts about Halloween, too, and I have to mute or walk away from the television if a commercial for a horror movie comes on or else I risk having terrible nightmares! I indulge my children because they love all that stuff but I keep it to levels of gore that I can tolerate…which isn’t very much. Haha.

Love all of your creative costumes and decor from Halloweens past! You are so creative and talented at interpreting a look. Until Covid, our community put on a costume competition and party, and it was so much fun to see the kids, adults (and pets) dress up! Hope you have a good week and great Halloween 👻 season!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Di! And I really only started getting into Halloween a few years ago. I don’t go too overboard though because I like my ‘costumes’ to be real actual wearable clothing. It’s another fun way to get creative with my wardrobe. I love big community celebrations for fun holidays like Halloween. It sounds like your community knows how to do it right!

I LOVE your vintage pin-up girl look! But all are such fun costumes! I never dress up for Halloween. Back in the day when I lived in Europe Halloween was not celebrated (they do nowadays) but we always celebrated Carnival in February where everyone would dress up for. Fun times!
I do love to put some fun and cute Halloween decoration out, but stay away from gory stuff. And I never watch any of the horror movies but do love a good ghost type movie like “What Lies Beneath” and “The Others”. Might have to plan a movie night, it’s been so long since I watched a movie!

Thanks so much, Ellie! I do love any reason to play dress up these days! I don’t know why it has taken me so long to embrace Halloween as such an occasion. I don’t like super scary or gory stuff either. Although I really enjoyed ‘What Lies Beneath’ as well. That is a super creepy movie! I do enjoy Halloween movies that are geared towards families and kids though. Those are always fun!

These are all such creative outfits/costumes but oh my stars, that unicorn look takes the cake (or in this case, the candy)!

Thanks so much, Cheryl! The unicorn is my all time favorite costume, too! Unfortunately, it got all stinky from being stored in my damp basement so it is part of our bloody hanging animal heads porch decor! I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

OMG! Of course, you have lots of cool Halloween costumes, Shelbee! Lol! I used to get into it a lot more when my son was young. We did quite a few “dress-up” looks for Match Made in Seven, however, so maybe I’ll find something! Cute idea.
xx Darlene
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Ha, thanks so much, Darlene! I have lots of fun with playing dress up so it’s no wonder I have embraced dressing up for Halloween. I don’t know why I didn’t get into the spirit sooner. I do like to make sure that my ‘costumes’ are more like regular outfits, too. I look forward to seeing what you come up with this year. Happy weekend, my friend!

Love the costumes! It really shows your creative spirit! When we were kids my mom used to make all of our costumes, sewing, or just coming up with unique ideas. I do prefer to see homemade costumes from kids , rahter than just sticking on a mask and nothing else! Effort counts 😉
I remember my Dad took this ridged heavy paper and spray painted it silver. I used a cap to attach a homemade “trashcan lid” to my head and then we glued milk cartons, candy wrappers etc to the top of my “can.” So, when I was 6, my most memorable costume was I was a trash can!
Im getting the little ewok costumes out this year for my ltttle ones
Its great you guys do things the whole month with your kids.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks so much, Jess! Ohhh, I do remember my mom making all of our costumes when we were little! My most memorable one was a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow! We made a big black cauldron out of cardboard (two flat sides attached by straps that went over my shoulders). I wore it over all black and then we made a hat out of gold tin foil which then had a cardboard rainbow coming out of the top of it. I have never been that creative with my kids’ costumes, but I wish I were! Oh well, we still have lots of fun coming up with costume ideas. Sometimes we buy them and sometimes we make them from things in our closets. I can’t wait to see the pups in their Ewok costumes again! So cute. Have a wonderful weekend!

So very nice. I am not a fan of Halloween. The last time I dressed up it was horrible (you might find it funny) and I will never dress up again. Looking so very nice.
Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.

Thanks, Patrick! I am sorry to hear that your last Halloween experience was so horrible! Well, you should just ignore the whole darn thing then, if you’d like! Have a great week ahead, my friend.

So many great outfits here 🙂 I love Halloween but now the kids have all grown up we don’t do much. Saying that I am dressing up tomorrow as my daughter needs some Halloween photography for the collage 🙂 Can’t wait, ha!! Thanks so much for hosting
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Claire! I never really embraced Halloween until my kids did. But I imagine I may not dress up as often when they outgrow it. I hope you have fun dressing up for your daughter’s Halloween photos!

Alexandra
Loving all the Halloween costumes! I used to really be into the Halloween spirit with decorating and dressing up, but in recent years, I’ve gotten out of it, and mainly focus on Fall. Not because I don’t love it still, just lacking the motivation.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Alexandra! Lack of motivation is my general everyday struggle so I totally understand that! Ha. I will likely not be so into dressing up once my kids no longer are into it. But maybe not! Perhaps I’ll just keep being the kooky lady in my neighborhood who goes all out on Halloween!
