Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Formal Wear & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #175
Last month’s Good Buy/Good-Bye Book was so much fun featuring pre-loved items. I want to thank all of the amazing ladies who joined us! Keep in mind that you are always welcome to share your pre-loved items for any theme that we feature here. But we are shifting gears in a very dramatic fashion for June’s theme. Formal wear is what we are looking for this month.
You can submit any outfit or outfit pieces that would be appropriate for any type of formal, semi-formal, or dressy event. You absolutely do not have to get all dressed up and take new photos to submit, just send us pictures of your favorite or least favorite formal wear pieces with a brief description. However, if you do want to get all dolled up just to take some pictures, go for it! I just did that last week to introduce my inner child for my Fab 40’s collaboration.
What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book?
It is a monthly series that Nancy and I both publish on our blogs on the 15th of each month. Anyone who would like to participate and be featured can send us their photos with a short description explaining if the item was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to. We will give you the theme for the next month in each post. Photos will be due to us by the 10th of the month. So please join us for June by sending us some photos of your favorite (or least favorite) Formal Wear with a brief description as to why you love or hate them!
You can choose yourself whether you want to show a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to). We will keep purchasing Bad Buys every now and then for a variety of reasons…it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted (needed) to buy something, it fit almost quite right. But, of course, we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing or accessory that you have had for years and that you also wear a lot. Or something you bought on a holiday and every time you wear it you get that nostalgic holiday feeling back. Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye.
So to get you all motivated to find some photos of you donning your best formal wear and maybe take a trip down memory lane and revisit some fabulous events from your past when you got all dressed up, I am going to share some of my fanciest clothes that have appeared on the blog over the years. I may throw in a few that are not necessarily formal, but more on the dressy side. Hopefully, it will inspire you to join us this month!
I hope this little look back at some of my fancier outfits is enough to inspire you to join us this month. Send us some of your fanciest outfits!
And now your featured favorites from last week.
Reader Favorite (Most Clicked)
Meinhilde of Kiku Corner shared her post, DIY: Beeswax Lotion Bars. I really love the idea of a lotion bar for proper skin hydration and moisturizing. Plus, aren’t these bars so pretty?
My Favorite Fashion Post
Michelle of My Bijou Life shared her post, Wear All the Dresses, featuring a super fun bold striped dress in black and white. Her red accessories are totally on point, too. One of my favorite color combinations ever. I love this outfit head to toe!
My Favorite Non-Fashion Post
Art & Home shared a really fascinating post, Abandoned Cars & Trucks-The Unusual Beauty of Decay. This post really caught my attention because I have this exact topic on my list of creative ideas to write about…the beauty in ruin. Plus, there are some really fabulous photos here and lots of content to get you thinking!
If you would like to participate in this month’s Good Buy/Good-Bye Book and be featured on our blogs, just email photos of your fancy formal or semi-formal wear with a brief description to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to nancy@nancysfashionstyle.com by June 10. You are welcome to submit more than one item if you would like.
*By joining The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, you agree to receive a monthly email reminder.

I am going to have to think about what can be considered formal wear in my closet!

Yay! I think any kind of fancier dress or pants outfit that you would wear to a special event like a wedding, a holiday party, a movie premier (I don’t know how many of us actually attend those, but you get the idea)! I hope your week is off to a great start!

Wow…you sure do dress up a lot more than I do! I can’t pick a favorite, but all of the tulle is amazing & I do really really love the prom dress with the denim! My favorite shot though is the one at the gas pump… xo

Thanks so much, Debbie! I just get dressed up for photos because I like to play dress up, then I quickly return to ripped jeans and tee shirts! I love using the old gas station as a background for dressy outfits!

Hi Shelbee!
I love seeing the pictures of you and your hubby! So precious! So many pretty outfits! That gold gown is something!
Love red and green on you, great colors! I don’t own a lot of formal wear, still have a dress I wore to my brother’s wedding almost 8 years ago. I love the retro looks too, you do those so well!
have a great day!

Wow, what a collection of outfits! The variety shows your versatility in styles–that’s what’s so fun about this fashion blogging business, right? I love the photos of you and your husband in his military dress–such a handsome couple!
xx Darlene

Darlene, thank you so much! I guess I have always been kind of a style chameleon. I love all different sartorial genres and I love to dress depending on my mood. It is like playing dress up and being whatever I want to be on any given day. Also, my husband loves getting dressed up in his fancy uniform!

Bettye L Rainwater
WOW you have a lot of formal dresses! Are they all in the closet I saw…or do they have their own special space? Cuz it seems like they could fill your entire closet!!!
I don’t think I have one piece of formal wear! Well, a simple black jersey dress that I dress up with a kimono if I have to be at a wedding or special event but it’s not really “formal wear.”
AND ARE THOSE YOUR CURRENT GAS PRICES??? Whoa.
I love that you have so much FUN w clothes and dressing up!
xoxo Bettye
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Bettye, thank you so much! You crack me up! Yes, all of my dresses are in the disastrous closet room! Some of the really formal ones are stored in the basement in a wardrobe box which is a really bad idea because they now smell like my musty basement! I love the idea of a simple black jersey dress with a kimono. That is super sassy and sophisticated. And I don’t have any idea what the current gas prices are here since I haven’t left my house in 3 months! Haha. But that gas station where I take photos has been closed since I lived in this town (I have been here 7 years), so whatever is marked there is very outdated. I do have fun with my clothes though. I am like a little girl playing dress up!

Ha. Those 2016 pix? Who is that person? I don’t recognize you at all! (Wee bit of hyperbole).
You have inspired me to walk down my own Black Tie Memory Lane.
Talked to my mom yesterday and she said it got down to 30F one night recently. What the what?
Mother Nature hates us. We had another earthquake, though I didn’t feel it.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Haha, thank you, Anne! Send us some black tie outfits of yours, please! I want to see! And yeah, it did get cold again for a few days here, but it seems to have settled into spring/summer weather now. Although, last year during the first week of June it did snow here. You had an earthquake?! I am guessing since you didn’t feel it that it was a very mild one without any damage? We had an earthquake here maybe 6-8 months ago and I totally felt it, but I thought it was a garbage truck going by my house way too early in the morning! I thought it was strange that this truck would be rumbling about at 4:30 in the morning. Then I read the news that evening that informed me that we had an earthquake right at that time!

I started my Black Tie Outfit search and it got a lot more complicated than I expected — I have to dig through the analog photos. The ones stored in shoeboxes. GAH!
That’s funny about your garbage truck earthquake. When I first moved to CA, I lived near train tracks, and the trains always shook the house. It’s very likely that I experienced earthquakes during that year and didn’t know!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Get digging through those shoeboxes, my friend! I just laughed out loud at “garbage truck earthquake”! Ha.
