Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Camouflage & Link Up On the Edge #213
It is almost time for the next edition of The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book and we would love for you all to join us! Nancy and I have chosen Camouflage as the theme for October because it is a print that we both love. In fact, I am surprised we haven’t featured camo in this series until now.
Won’t you join us this month with some of your favorite (or least favorite) items in Camouflage. Any camo will do…green, blue, purple, or pink. And any items work, too. Pants, hoodies, coats, and boots. Ponchos, backpacks, skirts, and leggings. If it’s camouflage, it suits this theme. Whether you love it or hate it, we want to see it!
What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book?
It is a monthly series that Nancy and I both publish on our blogs on the 15th of each month. Anyone who would like to participate and be featured can send us their photos with a short description explaining if the item was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to. We will give you the theme for the next month in each post. Photos will be due to us by the 10th of the month. So please join us for October by sending us some photos of your favorite (or least favorite) Camouflage things with a brief description as to why you love or hate them!
I have loved camouflage literally for as long as I can remember. My sister, who is 6 years my senior, had this friend in high school who I thought was so insanely cool. She reached icon status in my prepubescent eyes when she crafted her prom gown out of traditional camouflage broadcloth, all trimmed in black lace, and she wore it with combat boots. I think that teenaged girl from way back in the 80’s might be the main source of my undying love for both camouflage and wearing combat boots with dresses. So let’s take a look at my camo things.

Oh my god, you have a lot of camo! Is it camo or camouflage? I already have a few ladies who are joining us!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Nancy! It is camouflage, but camo is just the shortened version. Slang, I suppose. I think I sent to all the ones that I received. I will send mine soon as well! Have a great weekend, my friend.

Camo is one thing I have never been a fan of for my personal style – you rock it!

Thanks, Tamar! It is definitely not a print for everyone! And now I can’t think of any prints that I am not a fan of! Have a great weekend.

Very thrilling to be the reader favorite! Lots of great camo looks Shelbee – I must admit that camo only came across my horizon because of bloggers like you. It has only recently been a thing in the UK. I’ve only got one item, really need to get more!! Have a great weekend.

Gail, thanks so much! I was wondering how popular camo was in other places. Camo really became a trend here during the the United States’ conflict with Vietnam back in the 60’s. Actually, I just went to look it up and here is what I have found…“Camouflage cloth entered the civilian wardrobe in the late 1960s as part of the counterculture appropriation of military surplus clothing for street wear-an ironic response to the Vietnam War. The trend faded but then resumed in the street styles of the 1980s.” Actually that whole article that I just linked is rather interesting! Have a great weekend, my friend!

I don’t own anything camo but you have some really cute styles on here! I really like that purple camo coat.

Thanks so much, Joanne! I actually have a lot more camo than this that never made it onto the blog. I probably have 5 different camo tee shirts!

You are rocking the camo look, Shelbee! It has been popular for a long time, and has almost reached classic status. Loved to see all of your remixes through the seasons.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Di! I was just researching the history of camo prints in civilian wardrobes and it became popular during the Vietnam Conflict as a way to oppose the war. It really is a super interesting history. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Hey Shelby, thank for hosting.
As a Californian who’s moved to MN, I should probably shot for some camo. Hunting is huge out here. I’ve got much left to learn. However, slowly but surely I’m acclimating to the new culture—and weather.
Wishing you a happy Friday!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Jed, thanks so much! Ah, yes, the hunting hobby! It is a very big thing in my family and in northern NY as well. And that kind of camo is necessary! I bet that is a bit of a culture shock moving from California to Minnesota. But how rewarding it is as well to evolve and grow within different cultural atmospheres! I hope you have an amazing weekend!

You are rocking the camo! I sadly lost my favorite (an only) camo t-shirt. 🙁 I really did love it though. I love your bomber jacket and pants. My favorite has got to be your husband in uniform though…the real deal! 😉 Thank you so much for your family’s service! Thank you for featuring my school post. I hope it’s helpful for other parents too! Thank you for hosting each week, and have a great weekend Shelbee!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Marielle, thanks so much for this wonderful comment! What a bummer about your favorite camo tee. You need to find a new one! That picture of my husband and son is one of my favorites of all time! I think my love of camo runs deep because basically every man in my family was in the military at some point. And of course, we live the military life every day! But only for 10 more months and then retirement! Weeeeeeeee! Have a fabulous weekend, my friend.

Fun fact: did you know it’s illegal to wear camo in Barbados? It’s not a pattern I feel that I can pull off, but it really works for you, especially since you’re a military family. Love the cameos from your hubby and son too!

Cheryl, thanks so much! And that is a crazy fun fact about Barbados! I need to go look up the reason for that…And I looked it up and apparently there are 11 countries where it is illegal to wear camo. It looks like the rules are centered on avoiding confusion with military that patrol the streets. But there is also some basis in terrorist groups who wear camo. These countries will literally take your camo right off your body and make you change your clothes at Customs. So crazy. Here is the article…Fashion Police: It’s Illegal To Wear Camouflage in 11 Popular Countries…. Very interesting read! I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Oooh, a camo prom gown!? Very cool. You wear it well in all these great photos, Shelbee. Your boys are adorable. The photo of your husband and son is just gorgeous!! Enjoy your weekend, my friend.

Darlene, thanks so much! I still want a camo gown for some reason! But I have no reason to have a camo gown now. Haha. That picture of Jeff and Archie is one of my favorites ever! Have a lovely weekend, my friend.

While you have styled camo to wonderful effect many times, I’ve never had a desire to wear it. I might if it came in turquoise. LOL! But then it really wouldn’t be camo then, would it?
Michelle

shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Michelle! I think it is still camo even if it is turquoise or purple or pink or any color really! Just like the crazy colors in animal prints! And I think you would totally rock a turquoise camouflaged anything. But I totally get it that camo is just not for everyone. I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend.

I don’t understand why I don’t own that much camo…I think right now I only have one pair of pants..?? Maybe because camo is sooo good that it’s rare to find? I’m gonna seriously be on the lookout for it!! Love ALL your looks. And of course I’m super partial to the funkier styling that involves fishnet stockings- LOVE in green (where do you find these gems?!!) xx
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Lucy, thanks so much! I feel like every few years or so, we see tons of camo at retailers and then it just goes away for a few years and comes back again! When it comes back, I stock up so I have lots when it becomes difficult to find again. Oh, all of my funky stockings and tights come mostly from Sock Dreams, Target, or Amazon. And I have even found brand new in the packaging tights at thrift shops, too! Have a lovely weekend, my friend.
