Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Asymmetrical & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #663
Feeling a little lopsided these days? A bit on the crooked side of things? Maybe a tad irregular or uneven? Why not express your creative distortions with us this month by sharing your favorite (or least favorite) Asymmetrical wardrobe items.
What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book?
The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book is a monthly series hosted by Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style and myself. Every month, we invite you to share a photo or two of your Good (or Bad) Buy items that fit the stated theme. We ask that you also provide a short description explaining if the item you are sharing was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to (formerly known as Bad Buys). Nancy and I will both publish a round up post featuring all of the submissions on the 15th of each month.
Anyone who would like to participate and be featured can send us their photos with a short description via email. You do not have to be a blogger to join. Anyone is welcome! We will give you the theme for the next month at the conclusion of each post. Photos will be due to us by the 10th of the month.
So won’t you please join us for August by sending some photos and descriptions of your favorite (or least favorite) Assymetrical things to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to info@nancysfashionstyle.com by August 10, 2023. You are welcome to submit more than one photo if you would like features on both of our blogs.
Asymmetry in fashion generally manifests mostly in hemlines and sometimes in necklines. An asymmetrical hemline is one that is uneven on either the side or the bottom of the garment. Some examples of asymmetrical hemlines include handkerchief, high-low, shark-bite, shirttail, slant, and step hems. Asymmetrical necklines include one shoulder styles or some sort of uneven cut out designs. If you think creatively, I am certain you can all find some asymmetrical fashion item in your wardrobe or even your home decor. All of my handmade curtains have asymmetrical hemlines!
Here is some asymmetrical inspiration from my personal archives.
As you can see, most of my wardrobe asymmetry occurs on the hemlines of dresses and tunics but waterfall cardigans and ponchos also provide a variety of asymmetry as well and I have one pair of jeans with step hems. But feel free to use your imagination and creative perspective as you search for something asymmetrical to share with us!

Oh I love this theme. And I also have so many older photos of clothing that I don’t even own anymore but still love so much!

This is a fun theme! There are a lot of things I got rid of my last closet clean out that I wish I still had just for the fabrics. I would use them in my crafting projects! I think I am keeping everything now and if I don’t wear it, I am cutting it up and turning it into something else!

Your red beret is so cute on you! I love that whole look you have on in that photo actually. I am considering a beret of some sort for fall/winter but I feel nervous about it for some reason! LOL. Maybe I will just go for it.

Thanks so much, Erin! I love my hats! I think a red beret would look adorable on you! You should definitely go for it. The trick is to just wear it with a confident smile!

Like you, I’m a big fan of asymmetrical pieces! I only have a couple though unlike your very impressive archive. Have a great weekend.

Yep, I was literally only thinking of handkerchief and slant hemlines not even realizing I have worn two outfits this week that easily fit this category! A high/low hemmed shirt and an off the shoulder top.

Definitely think outside the box with our prompts for this, Joanne! I adore the top you sent to me for this month. I am really looking forward to seeing all the submissions for this theme!

Funny thing is that I just bought something else that is asymmetrical. Obviously, I love the detail.

I don’t own many pieces with an asymmetrical hemline. I love your black and white dresses at the top of the post!
