March has finally arrived and with it comes the promise that Spring is not far behind. The frigid temperatures and mountains of snow and ice on the ground would indicate otherwise, but I am still hopeful that warmer days are coming. In general, I feel confident relying on past weather patterns and seasonal changes to predict future seasonal weather patterns. However, this past year has been so very strange that it makes me question if Spring like weather will actually arrive.

Given the events of this past year, I suppose it wouldn’t be all that shocking if we skipped Spring and Summer altogether and just remained in perpetual Winter for the rest of our days. I don’t think there is much that can surprise me these days. There also isn’t very much that makes me giddy these days either except cute clothes. Cute clothes always have the power to bring me joy.

I get a real genuine thrill when I create an outfit that makes me feel wonderful. Our clothing should at least do that much for us…bring us joy and make us feel great. I mean, we do live in the most modern of eras and our clothing is no longer simply for the sake of providing appropriate coverage to survive the elements. Why shouldn’t our clothing also bring us some joy?

I know there is likely a large population of people who get dressed simply because they have to and they don’t put much effort into the style side of the equation. And that is fine by me. We should all wear what makes us feel good and if you feel good in just the basics, then rock on with your simple style. I, however, do like to put a little bit of extra into the outfits I wear. Because that is what makes me happy.

When the prompt for this month’s Stylish Monday group was announced, I had just photographed this outfit featuring a mixture of greens, blues, and grays with a combination of gingham, argyle, and tweed. It seemed perfectly suited for the Pops of Color theme. This green argyle sweater is another one that I had found in a misplaced bag of basement clothing with the purple argyle sweater. There is something about a bright shade of green and gingham prints that scream springtime to me. So naturally I gravitated to this old green gingham button down shirt to layer underneath my argyle sweater.

These wide legged jeans are a recent purchase from Torrid. My sister loved them so much that she bought 4 pairs of them in different washes and lengths. They are incredibly comfortable as far as jeans go. They have a high waist so they hug in all the troublesome parts and the denim is really soft and moveable. Rarely do I find any jeans comfortable enough to wear all day while I lounge around my house. But these jeans are definitely lounge worthy!

Because it is not quite Spring, I needed to add some layers. I liked the pairing of a structured blazer with jeans and a sweater. I opted for a medium gray one so it would coordinate with my silver oxfords. My old thrifted blue and gray tweed overcoat finished off my look for the chilly outdoors.

Returning to the business of the weather, it looks like we should be experiencing some warmer temperatures later this week with lots of rain. I am actually looking forward to some mild rainy days as they will likely wash away most of this dreadful snow. As lovely as the first snows of Autumn and Winter can be, by this point in the season, it is just an ugly sludgy black, gray, and white mess. The grassy areas will first turn to quicksand-like mud then we will probably have another deep freeze to harden the mud before it melts again and makes its way all through my house (this is life with young boys).

The muddy season is probably the best season to start wearing all the bright pops of color from our wardrobes. So let’s get to my fabulously stylish friends and see how they have style their Spring colors.

Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood

“Green is one of my favorite bright colors, especially Kelly Green. It’s also one of the most popular Pantone Colors of 2021. I wore this cute outfit today on a 47° sunny day (it felt warmer than that) and my beautiful daughter took these photos. I decided to pair this Kelly Green Eyelet Blouse by J. Crew with these Olive Green Skinny Jeans by Old Navy. Even my net socks are green (and black). They look great under the peep-toe booties.”

“What’s better to wear for a color challenge than a ‘Colorblock Sweater’?  I added even more pop of color with a bright bag!”

Amy

Andy of Pearls and Pantsuits

“Like most of my Stylish Monday sisters, I LOVE color and am not ashamed to wear it, and just adding a pop of color to an otherwise neutral palette is a fun little trick to add to your repertoire if you’re not comfortable with wearing too much color. Pop on over to my blog for a peek at today’s outfit, and more style tip for adding pops of color to your wardrobe.”

“Color makes me happy, especially bold bright color! However, today I’m sharing how you can easily add touches of color to pop an otherwise monochromatic look if color isn’t your thing! What color would you pair with gray? Stop by my blog to see the colors I added to one outfit!”

Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style

“I love lilac! But the color doesn’t look good on me when it is near my face. This skirt was actually a bit too tight and I sold it. But the color and the fabric, it looked a bit like tweed, were fabulous. I like to wear lilac with purple, or with pink, or like here with orange. I am on the hunt for a new, or preloved, lilac skirt! One that fits!”

Nancy

Nicole of High Latitude Style

“Seven months of snow means white and black everywhere. Occasionally, a hint of yellow. The sky is either dark with white pin dots and green stripes, gray with white polka dots, pink or orange, or steel blue (my favorite). Not much color. Thus, in the cold season you have hunger for color. So even though red adds a lot of weight (not actually, but it gives the illusion of being heavy), it’s one of my weapons to fight the winter blues.”

Nina of Sharing a Journey

“We rightly think a pop of color on a neutral background adds interest, drama and elevates an outfit. Well today I’m the pop of color. I just couldn’t resist a bright spring dress to blast us out of the doldrums!”

“Green is my forever favorite color and the month of March really makes me want to wear all of the green things as I impatiently await the arrival of Spring. This outfit has a few more layers to beat the Winter chill and another print to create extra interest.”

We are kind of twinning today in our color choices, I am wearing green and blue too! Those jeans of yours look comfortable and so stylish – I love them – and I guess your sister really did too – 4 pairs! But hey, when you find something good, why not? Spring is coming your way, I am sure of it and I hope you can plan a trip to getaway soon my friend. I bet things warm up for y’all this month.
Thanks for the link up and keep those cute outfits coming!
    xo,
    Kellyann

Thanks so much, Kellyann! Green and blue is such a great color combination. I find it so cheerful. It looks like we have some springlike weather later this week, but then it is followed by snow over the weekend. It is currently -6 degrees here right now. But for some reason, I don’t feel as cold as I normally do which is a huge indicator that spring will be here soon. Heading over to check out your green and blue outfit now! Have a fabulous week!

I just love this outfit! You are so creative and original with your fashion, I love that. Those pants are fabulous, and I love the jackets and shoes you chose.

Thanks so much, Amy! I really appreciate your kind words. I feel like mostly people look at me like I’m a bit of weirdo! Haha. But I have fun with my style, that’s for sure. And it brings me joy during these troubling times! I hope you have a lovely week!

I really love that you mentioned our clothes should bring us joy. I hadn’t thought about it that way before, but love your perspective! They should make us happy and feel great about ourselves. I love this bright outfit, and especially the argyle sweater! 🙂 I am dreaming of warmer weather and I think Ohio is going to get a taste of it this week. It’s supposed to be mid-sixties for both of this week and I’m super excited!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Ashley, thanks so much! I figure when it comes to the simple things that we are required to do every day…like putting on clothing…why shouldn’t we find ways to make these things joyful? Life is mundane and boring at times and we all have a tendency to get caught in the whirlwinds of obligations that surround us. So finding the little joys in life are really what keep me going. Clothing and fashion has always brought me happiness. Who would have known how much such a silly passion would have helped so many trudge through a year of lockdown? We thankfully have some warmer weather this week as well, but more snow coming next week. I hope you enjoy the mild spring weather heading your way!

I’m dying over this outfit, Shelbee! The colours, the prints, those jeans! OMG I love it all. And I can totally understand your sister buying four pairs lol! I hope you had a lovely break with your family.

Thanks, Mireille! Green has always been my favorite color. And I have loved argyle forever as well. So this sweater really makes my heart happy! It helps to brighten the muddy messes around me, too! The dried grass through the house is super annoying as well, isn’t it? Oh, boys!

What a gorgeous outfit, Shelbee! I am especially swooning over that green – my favourite colour – Argyle sweater. Those photos of you posing in the snow are absolutely stunning! xxx

  • Sheila (of Ephemera)

Thank you again, for the link-party, Shelbee! I’ve added my mom this time, instead of me – I roped her into doing a photo-shoot at the local castle last week, and it was so fun – plus, she’s wearing hot pink, so much more appropriate than my more neutral looks in subsequent posts!

I love your green argyle and those wide-legged trousers, but the silver shoes have my heart! It’s a sea of beige and black out there, with all kinds of leggings and athletic wear – I’m really hoping that people will be inspired to dress up in “real” clothes once we can mingle and gather again! I’m leading by example – maybe my own dressier options will cause someone to want to express themselves sartorially? I can hope!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Sheila, thank you so much! I can’t wait to meet your mom in your post! I feel like it is generally a sea of beige and black out there anyway and now is the time for colors to brighten and cheer us. I remember when I bought my silver shoes…I was shopping with a friend in DSW and I was so excited when I spotted these shoes in my size on the clearance rack. I didn’t pay much for them (I can’t remember how much), but the friend shopping with me just kept telling me how horribly ugly these shoes were and said that she would never go in public with me if I wore them. And these are very tame compared to some of my other footwear. Haha. Oh well, she’s not a friend anymore after she would actively go out of her way to text me and tell me how awful my outfits were on my daily blog posts. Because you know, she was being my friend and figured no one else was going to tell me so she was doing me a great friend service. Not really the kind of friend I want, so that relationship is no more. Humaning is becoming more and more difficult by the day!

      • Sheila (of Ephemera)

That is not a friend! Aw, that makes me feel so sad, that she would say go out of her way to tell such awful things. I love your outfits – they say who you are! Hang in there and look for the colour, darlin’! It’s out there and we are bright!

        • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Aw, thanks so much, Sheila. It makes me sad, too. Yet I seem to attract people exactly like that time and again. It is my curse I suppose! But I am hanging in and hanging on and keeping my vibrancy alive the best I can! Thanks for being awesome, my friend!

Ugh, yes… mud season. I love that it means the snow is melting but I hate all the squelching around in it. This is such a perfect outfit for pops of color! I love that sweater and those jeans do look super comfortable.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thank you, Joanne! Mud season is the absolute worst! We will get two rounds of it, too. Al this wretched snow and ice will melt this week, turn to mud, and then more snow is coming which will also need to melt into more muddiness before Spring will actually be here!

Thank you, Suzanne! Green has been my favorite color for my entire life and I will always be drawn to all shades of it. I especially like bright Kelly green like this sweater but it is a difficult color to find in clothing except for St. Patrick’s Day themed things!

    Hi Shelbee!

As always I totally love how you’ve interpreted our theme for this month! I couldn’t agree with you more regarding our clothing and outfits bringing us joy and an expression of who we are…a good outfit means heading into the day with confidence and a pep in my step! This month’s theme was such a fun one and as always I love our collaborations!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Julie! This was a great theme as we slowly make our way out of this long dreary winter. Colors are definitely working to uplift my spirits! Now for next month, I might struggle a bit! But I do love a good style challenge so I’m sure it will all be fun and fabulous! Have the best weekend, my friend.
