Pom Poms, Polka Dots, and Pigtails: Shopping My Closet
I have been on a bit of a spending freeze recently, not really by choice but by necessity, so I have been digging deep into the expansive recesses of my overflowing closet room to create some fun end of summer outfits.
I have had these lacy mustard shorts with pom pom trim for a few years now. I got them from the Target clearance rack a few years ago. I love the elastic and drawstring waistband for comfortability and ease. I showed these shorts two years ago on the blog styled with the same Target flatform sandals and a plain black tee shirt.
This sheer polka dot blouse is one of my favorites. A few years ago, I won a giveaway from StyleWe and this is one of the items I chose. I have styled it a number of times on the blog with jeans and a pink cardigan, jeans and red blazer, and over a black dress.
Pigtails have been my easy go-to hair style for these hot and humid summer days. I am still trying to grow my hair out a bit longer so the pigtails flow a little nicer. Hopefully, the pigtails will be long enough by winter to braid and leave them peeking out from under my hats!
As much as I love shopping and adding new pieces to my growing wardrobe, I also love getting creative with what’s hiding in my closet. I rarely wear the same exact outfit twice because I am forever mixing and matching the things I own. How do you shop your closet?
Keeping it on the edge,
Shelbee

Love you cute pom pom shorts Shelbee – they could pass for a little wrap mini skirt. I could see them with heels and a glass of Prosecco! xx

Maria, thanks so much! Hmmm..and I was thinking tights and boots of some sort. But now you threw heels into the mix! What to do next?

I definitely need to go on a spending freeze. I mean, look at all of the fabulous things we already have in our closets. Sometimes I feel so guilty because I haven’t worn things in ages!!
Those shorts are the best, and I love the entire outfit!!

Jodie, thanks so much! I am seriously brainstorming now how I could possibly style these with tights and booties for cold weather. Do I go with short or tall boots? Heeled or flat? A sweater on top? A turtleneck and vest? Hmmmm…the wheels are churning!

We are in the same boat Shelbee! I am on a spending freeze as well, and not by choice either. Hellfire and damnation, I detest a spending freeze, but my damn bills keep taking away from my shopping budget. Alas, air conditioning (no matter how hard I try to rationalize) is more necessary to my well being than those spectacular nude and turquoise wedges I stalk daily (hourly) on Poshmark. I am supposed to be an adult, therefore delayed gratification is supposed to be in my arsenal of adult tools, right? I think I skipped that memo, because it’s working right now. Ah well, school starts in two weeks, and the air conditioning bill is paid off, for now.
Being forced to shop my closet has helped me though. I finally got the thing organized, so I can find stuff, and found four new pairs of earrings that I’d forgotten I’d purchased, as well as a bunch of stuff I couldn’t find all summer long. It’s miraculous what shows up when you know where your stuff is.
Love your shorts

Adulting is rough and totally for the birds, Susan! And my spending freeze was made even more necessary when we got slammed with $100 in roaming charges on our last cell phone bill because apparently when you live this close to the Canadian border, the phone can randomly start roaming internationally if you dare to venture too close to the border. And I never realized that I left the roaming feature turned on. Lesson learned now…but at the cost of $100 that was not budgeted. Add onto that the fact that the other other day after my boys were done playing with the backyard hose, I asked them if they had turned the hose off and was answered with yes the hose was off. Reconfirmed by asking 4 more times only to discover an hour later that my seven year old merely “thought he had turned it off” when, in fact, he did not. So I’m interested to see what the water bill is going to look like! And now back to school shopping must be done in the next week or two. So I will be stalking and coveting all the cute things for a while before any purchases are made…like a damn grown up delaying my gratification until I can afford to be gratified again. Maybe I should organize my closet better and see what treasures may be buried in there.

If it’s any consolation, Shelbee, I thought I’d turned the hose off, when I’d actually turned it all the way on! Then I went to the beach to come home to a flooded yard four days later.
No new clothes for me that month!

Oh my gosh! I don’t know if that makes me feel better, but it did make me chuckle. And it is certainly something not outside of the realm of the sort of things that happen in my life! Like when I start my car on the frigid cold winter’s day only to have my neighbor knock on my door 3 hours later to ask me if I know my car is running! #facepalm

Thanks so much, Ruth! I love the versatility of a tunic top like this because you can wear it long or tie it up for a different look.
