Outfit Remix for Road Tripping & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #263
Two weeks ago, I shared this cheerful pink sweater in my road tripping post…the road trip which I embark on today! By the time you are reading this, I will likely already be on the road en route from northern New York to the mountains of western North Carolina. A round trip of over 1,800 miles that I will traverse today and tomorrow, arriving at my destination in Tuckasegee, North Carolina, some time tomorrow evening.
In that previous post, I had mentioned that this cozy turtleneck sweater would be making the trip with me. In fact, I am wearing the same road trip outfit that I said I would except I switched out my long rainbow confetti scarf for this pink and blue star and stripes scarf. I prefer the larger blanket style scarf for traveling because it has the dual purpose of also acting as a small blanket.
I hadn’t intended to restyle this sweater so soon but I was getting dressed the other day and I needed warm, cozy, and cheerful which led me to reach for this sweater yet again. This time, however, it was lying in the clean laundry pile with these navy striped pants that I just wore for my Norman Rockwell Style Imitating Art outfit. I loved the bright pink against the darker navy and an outfit remix was born.
These loose fitting trousers are that comfortable pajama style that has made a comeback recently. I am a fan and always have been considering these pants are probably close to a decade old by now. I added lots of pink and blue accessories from my ankle boots to my beret which I adorned with a shiny pink brooch. I bought these adorable kitten gloves in the fall because they were simply too cute to resist. They worked perfectly with this whimsical winter outfit, too.
When it came time for choosing a coordinating coat, I reached for an old favorite in navy with a tiny magenta pattern. I love the classic style of a belted wool overcoat in a not so classic print or color. I bought this coat on Target clearance many years ago and it still stands the test of time. It also provided the perfect final pattern to a 5-print mix in one outfit. I always like to challenge myself to see how many prints I can combine into one outfit and remain sartorially coherent.
You may be wondering what are those 5 prints since there are really only 3 apparent patterns…the stripes on my pants, the print on my coat, and the pattern on my scarf. But the cat graphic on my gloves also counts as does the monochromatic cable knit of my sweater. For that matter, I could probably include the cable knit of my beret as well…but I’ll call cable knit just 1 of the 5 patterns and I’ll strive for 6 prints the next time I feel inspired.
I am going to leave off here and finish up the tedious business of packing! I may go missing until next week, but do not be alarmed. I will return once my travels are complete. Happy Tuesday to y’all!

Thanks so much, Anne! It wasn’t too bad of a drive! Four hours on Tuesday to my mother-in-law’s in Pennsylvania. I dropped the kids off and drove another hour to have dinner with friends and spent the night in a hotel. Wednesday was 10 hours and 20 minutes of driving which I completed in 11 hours and 45 minutes…I stopped to pee approximately every hour. Small bladder problems. But the traffic wasn’t terrible and I had Betsey Johnson on Audible to keep me company! What a fun memoir!

Oooooh! I’ll have to add Betsey to my reading list! I have an OG pair of red/black cotton/lycra striped leggings of hers that I bought in 1978!!! The waist elastic is shot, I’m holding on to them anyway.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Oh I love that, Anne! You will love her memoirs! I was laughing and crying and relating to so much of it. It was really cool hearing her read it, too. She is a fantastically intriguing and inspiring human! I don’t want to ruin any part of it, but just watch for the part about her velvet pantsuit…I freaking died laughing because I would have responded in exactly the same way she did!

I will miss you guys! I do hope that you may come back to Asheville in the summer months.
I love this mix of navy and this beautiful pink sweater. a great color combo and both look great with your complexion. Of course I am a fan of the pattern mixing with your scarf. You do look cozy and warm, which is key to winter in the mountains! Have a safe ride , I give you credit for all the driving, my butt hurts after 2 hours! LOL

Thanks, Jess! We will miss you, too! I just reserved a room at the Biltmore for Saturday night! I am really excited to stay there after your rave reviews of the place. I will definitely be coming back but likely not this summer. We are booked full with trips. But I am thinking maybe in the fall, we might all come down as a family! The kids are getting mad at me every time I come here without them!

Marsha Banks
Oh, I love navy and pink together! And, this is the perfect pink on you, Shelbee! What a fun time you are going to have. I envy you the alone time in the car. It’s the best way to solve the world’s problems, figure out the solutions to problems that have been bugging you forever, and just get away from everyone else! Can you tell I’ve been pretty much stuck at home for a long time?
Drive safely and text when you get home…oops, you’re not my kid!! But, it’s what I always say to them even though they’re all in their late 30s and early 40s! Do have a fun time and be safe!
Thanks so much for the link up!

Marsha, thanks so much! I have arrived safely in North Carolina and I appreciate your mom check-in! I listened to Betsey Johnson reading her memoirs and had some great conversations with her along the way! Haha. It was just like she was in the car with me. The book was the perfect length, too. It took me straight through the 600 miles between Pennsylvania and North Carolina. I do enjoy philosophizing on long solo car trips, but I am not a very relaxed driver so I get very tense and tired by the end of it! But I have 4 days to relax before doing the drive in reverse. I need to figure out my next Audible book for the return drive.

Thanks, Michelle! It ended up being way too warm yesterday for this sweater. I wore joggers and a tee shirt instead for travel. I am an INFJ-A but it has changed over the years. My “I” used to be an “E” but I think that one flips around every time I take a personality test. My “J” and “P” have switched, too, I believe, if I recall correctly. I just sent you a message on Facebook because I currently have no cell phone service! I am super excited for Saturday!

That’s such a long way Shelbee! If we were to drive from the top of the UK (John O’Groats, Scotland) down to the bottom (Land’s End) it would only be 874 miles! I love that pink sweater, it is exactly the sort I would want to wear! Have a good time in North Carolina. Look forward to hearing about it.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Gail! Oh my goodness, that perspective on the distance I traveled is amazing! As I travel just through the United States, I could probably cover most of Europe in the same distance traveled! It was an amazing trip but I am completely exhausted after all the solo driving!
