Monochromatic Marsala and a “Stolen” Sweater
Maybe I’m strange, but most articles of clothing in my wardrobe have a story behind how I acquired them. I usually know where I purchased each item and how much I paid for them. And if I got the item for a “steal” (pun absolutely intended), you better believe that I’m going to tell you about it! I get very exited if I receive a compliment on a piece of clothing that I only paid a few dollars for. And I feel compelled to let the unsuspecting compliment-giver know exactly how much it cost!
The story behind this monochromatic outfit is kind of funny. I was shopping with my friend E. at Kohl’s one night rather late (our local Kohl’s is open until 11:00 p.m., which is a great time to shop…it’s very quiet). We were trying on clothes in adjacent fitting rooms and we were getting that kind of silly you get when the tired starts to take over.
I had these marsala leggings on and E. had on this sparkly space dyed marsala sweater. The sweater was on clearance for $4 and we had 20% coupons. She showed me the sweater and it was totally cute on her and she was going to purchase it, but then I realized that it matched my leggings perfectly. I asked her if I could try it on before she bought it. She obliged and it was amazing with my leggings. So I totally stole it from her! Just to be clear, I did not steal it from Kohl’s! I paid the $3.20 for the sweater plus the $8 for the leggings and so was born this monochromatic marsala outfit perfectly on trend for this Fall!
I suppose E. can borrow the sweater if she would like! I mean, that’s what friends are for, right? Haha! Thanks, E. I love my new outfit, all for $11.20!
Do you also have an amazing friend who would give up such a great deal for you? How about some funny stories behind your clothing? And what do you think of the monochromatic look? Please do share your stories in the comments!
Keeping it on the edge,

I too remember every purchase and the story behind it, along with the price. It makes me proud to know how much I can get for less. At Kohl’s when they say you saved $132 today, I think “yea well I never would have spent that much!” Cute outfit! I have yet to try the leggings thing.

That is so true at Kohl’s, Aimee! Part of why I love shopping there. But you’re right, I would never pay full price for anything at Kohl’s! Thanks for stopping by!

HA! totally stolen! But it looked good on you so it was “perfect” as C would say 🙂 Great outfit and stories along with it make it even better!

Thanks, Emily! It was fun shopping that night, too! But I did give you that super cheap skirt in the Cato fitting room that I was going to buy! So, I guess we’re even…for now! And for as long as I have this sweater, I will always have that special story! Even after the Army splits us up!

Great steal Shelbee! The sweater is perfect with the leggings and you know a friend is a keeper when she lets you buy the sweater off of her back…lol.

Haha! I was a little shocked by the size of the button, too! But, I thought, what the heck, I’m leaving it!!! If you want a big button, you got it! Thanks for the compliment! I have to keep it easy breezy with two little boys. That’s my entire wardrobe at this stage of my life! I do yearn for the days of yore (aka before kids) when I could be a bit fancier, but that day will come again and I will probably yearn the days of wee little ones tearing up my house, my style, and my life!
