May the Road Rise Up to Meet Us & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #164
“May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back.”
Irish Blessing
I suppose we could all use some blessings right about now. And while sharing fashion may seem incredibly frivolous in the current environment, I think it is important to keep living our lives as normally as we possibly we can. For me, any topic of discussion that doesn’t revolve around the coronavirus, politics, or the apocalypse is a welcomed topic, indeed.
Since today is St. Patrick’s Day which is generally one of those feel happy and good kind of superficial holidays, I am thinking why not embrace the day even more whole heartedly than we would in a more stable environment. Because it’s fun. And it brings us joy. And it makes us smile. And smiles, joy, and fun are much needed right now.
So why not celebrate with your family and eat, drink, and be as merry as you possibly can. Share some blessings, play some games, watch a movie or a documentary, and remind each other to be kind and courteous and caring. And fill the world with more love than it has ever known.
Like all things in life, this too shall pass. I don’t know what it will all look in the end. None of us really do. But I know what it looks like right now and I don’t like it. Since I can’t change it, I am going to just roll with it. It really is the only choice we have right now. Roll and smile whenever you get the chance. And if you can make each other laugh, by golly, do it!
Hopefully, these Irish blessings and quotes will give you the little perk you need today.
“We may have bad weather in Ireland, but the sun shines in the hearts of the people and that keeps us all warm.”
Marianne Williamson
“Luck was a mechanism to be devised, and luck and destiny were merely two sides of the same coin.”
Indries Shah
“I have noticed that timing and luck sometimes line up in such a way that you can catch a break.”
Ellie Kemper
“You’ve got to think lucky. If you fall into a mudhole, check your back pocket—you might have caught a fish.”
Darrel Royal
“The only sure thing about luck is that it will change.”
Wilson Mizner
“Luck is great, but most of life is hard work.”
Iain Duncan Smith
“The amount of good luck coming your way depends on your willingness to act.”
Barbara Sher

Such a cheery spring look Shelbee! I love all the Irish blessings, and we normally love celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Since my dad passed I don’t enjoy quite as much but we’ll make our corned beef and share a laugh or two.
I love green and pink together! That coat is stunning, it appears that even the statue thought so!

Thanks so much, Kellyann! That statue was a good sport! My special holiday with my dad was New Year’s Eve and I always feel a pang of sadness on that holiday even though my dad has been gone for 25 years. We still do our best to enjoy these holidays and just accept they will come with some sadness. I hope you have lots of laughs with your corned beef! Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

I love that blessing! A priest at our church says it at the ed of every mass. Love this green and pink look! It’s so pretty. Thank you for this inspiring and upbeat post. I’m trying to roll with the punches too. Thanks for the link up Shelbee!

Kathrine, thanks so much! I am trying to maintain some feeling of purpose. It seems to be getting harder and harder to do with each day. But as I am reading other posts this morning, I am inspired to keep on going with upbeat, morale boosting, fun posts. Stay safe and healthy, my friend!

Thanks for the lovely Irish blessings! I miss my late mother in law, proudly Irish, coming round with shamrock every St Patrick’s Day. Love those green tights with the pink booties!

Thanks so much, Gail! Isn’t it funny how holidays can bring those memories back with tinges of sadness for lost loved ones. You should continue your mother-in-law’s tradition! Stay safe and healthy, my friend.

Love seeing all the green and pink! Great combo! And the pose with the statue? Haha. Severo has me take pix of him imitating statues whenever the opportunity arises. Case in point, from New Orleans, 2014: https://www.flickr.com/photos/annembray/15293030256/in/album-72157647467055827/
Current status report:
LA is getting closer to “no one go anywhere and stay home”. Well, actually, that’s what we’re supposed to be doing now. Closed: all bars, restaurants (only take out allowed), schools, libraries, museums, large gatherings… the list grows daily. I got word yesterday from the main day job that we’re to work from home as much as possible. Cleaning up my home office space is going to count as work hours! (Wonder if I can include the living room? That’s my “break room” hahahaha). Accounting still has to go in (they won’t let them take THAT data home!) but the building will be open only for 1/2 days. I’m not going to bother going in to get files until Thursday. It will be difficult to concentrate on “work stuff” because I have so many more interesting personal projects here. And I won’t have to pretend work to avoid my office mate who thinks up stupid busy work when he sees me scrolling Facebook.
I got a super short “armageddon haircut” on Sunday in case we have to all go into “home lockdown”. Will post it and my “working at home” outfit on IG later, after the sun rises.
xo
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Anne, you are the best! This comment seriously just perked me up so much this morning. Working from home is my jam. But now I am trying to incorporate home schooling my kids while trying to get work done at home. I am taking this whole thing as an opportunity to make some positive changes in our life. First thing once the kids wake up is a minimum of 20 minutes of yoga for all! Nothing like the end of the world to kick my ass into gear! Hahaha. I look forward to seeing your Armageddon haircut! I might just end up in full dreadlocks if things turn even worse! Going to check out Severo’s statue pose now. Stay safe, healthy, and sane, my friend!

Shelbee,
What lovely Irish blessings for St. Patrick’s Day!
Things are definitely not what they used to be and we all need to keep to our daily routine of writing and connecting with each other through our blogs or social media.
Love your outfit!
So happy to be here with you!
Hugs,
Robin
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Robin, thanks so much! I am trying to stay normal and on track with writing, but suddenly so much seems so frivolous! But if we all stick together, we will be stronger for it. I am off to do some morning yoga with my kids now. Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Stay safe and healthy!

Shelbee, I agree, we must try to maintain some normalcy in our lives, even if we are having to self-isolate. We cannot “round up my friends and neighbors and eat, drink and be merry” at this time; but we can round them up via texts and calls and emails and help keep up the morale. If talking about clothes seems frivolous to anyone, I would tell them we all need a little frivolity right about now! And you DO look gorgeous in that green! I’ve decided to go on blogging about food and not write about the current health crisis because my blog is my happy place and I want it to be a happy place others can visit and “eat, drink and be merry” virtually!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Jean, I love your approach to this! Thank you. And yes, I want to keep my blog space filled with fun, lighthearted positivity as well. A virtual party sounds like a fantastic idea! Stay safe and healthy.

Great post and loving your green and pink outfit! I agree with you about keeping things as normal as we possibly can. Nothing we can do about the situation otherwise so I too just follow along with what’s advised but luckily blogging is still allowed so why not continue! It’s a sunny day today, so looking forward to doing a little garden work and will make the teens help some too.

Oh, what a week. It doesn’t even feel like St. Patrick’s Day! I’m planning to keep my outfits posts going, too. It is something to keep my mind off what is going on outside and an excuse to dress up. Such good advice, Shelbee. I know we all wonder if continuing on with our fashion posts is the right thing to do, but honestly, we all need some frivolity right now, don’t we?! In writing my post today, I struggled, too, so shared some fun things I found online. But I also styled my new cute shamrock tee from Target! Just can’t resist! Lol! Your outfit is SO adorable–I love the green and pink combo on that darling dress. And the Irish quotes are great fun. Happy St Patrick’s Day, my friend!
xx Darlene
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Darlene! It really is difficult to see past today, but fun and frivolous things while we are on lock down seems to be the best approach so we don’t all fall into a deep depression. I am going to go to check out your cute new shamrock tee now! Stay safe and healthy!

I agree with you Shelbee. I am so done hearing about the Coronavirus. It’s not doing any good for the psyche and while I am not being naive, there’s only so much we can handle. I love your outfit and your heart necklace is stunning. The green color is gorgeous! I hope you and the family are staying safe. In the meantime, sending you big hugs.

Such a cute outfit! The green and pink is so pretty together. I love it! Fun quotes too!
Agreed on the need to focus on our joys. All we can do is follow the precautions, and after that we may as well do something that creates happy. Being unhappy certainly won’t make this better.
