Made With Love By Mom-Tunic Take 2
A few weeks ago, I published a post honoring the memory of my mother and showcasing my very special tunic that she made for me. (You can read that post here where I styled my tunic with boyfriend jeans and a kimono.) Many of you had suggested that I put this tunic into regular rotation as I previously had only worn it once or twice a year. So I took your suggestions to heart and here it is again. This time with a floral hanky hem skirt.
Mom also made a matching scarf from the same fabric. But since it was too humid for a scarf, I used it as a sash around my waist instead. It gave the tunic some much needed shape as it was looking a bit frumpy over the long skirt. (First, I tried to wear the scarf in my hair as sort of a head wrap. I should have taken pictures of that debacle! I wish I were a headwear kind of girl, but alas, I am not!)
In a previous post, I did mention that I am not big into handbags and purses and that you would rarely see me holding one in my pictures. I have since realized that handbags are the best props ever especially when I have no idea what the heck to do with my hands as I stand goofily around posing in solitude and snapping photos of myself. So you may see more purses going forward. But many will probably be on repeat. I love the casual summer vibe of this tote and the colors were perfect with this outfit.
And check out these adorable lace up sandals that I recently scored for around $10! Aren’t they the perfect shoes?
Also, I have been trying out some new stuff in an effort to get more comfortable in front of the camera. I suppose that is the best way. So I attempted some sitting poses. I think they are ridiculously goofy and forced and a tad bit too posed. But I am a work in progress. My photographs are a work in progress. My blog is a work in progress. My life is a work progress.
So I am going to just sit here on the ground in my awkward pose and brainstorm some better ideas for blog posts and outfit poses!
Outfit details:
Tunic and sash: Made With Love By Mom
Skirt: Cato Fashions Floral Hanky Hem Skirt (currently on clearance for $9.99).
Sandals: Mossimo Supply Co. Lilac Gladiator Sandals from Target (the current price listed online is $22.99, but they were marked down for clearance when I bought them in my local Target and then were an additional 20% off with my Target Cartwheel App).
Tote: Merona for Target (from last year, but how adorable is this striped tote?)
Gold necklace: So old I can’t even pretend to remember where I procured it.
Leather tassel necklace: Cato Fashions (no longer available but similar here).
Gold tassel earrings: Kohl’s (no longer available, but similar here, here, and here).
I hope you enjoyed! And if anyone has any topic ideas or styling ideas that they would like for me to address in a post, please do mention it in the comments.
Always awkward on the edge,
Shelbee

That is a lovely tunic, I really like it with the long skirt 🙂 Great that you are thinking up more ways to wear it.
Have fun with your posing! 🙂 I always find taking blog photos awkward so I’m never really in any different poses, ha!

Thank you, Mica! I really do love finding new ways to style the same piece. Taking blog photos is so totally awkward, but I am getting braver! Yesterday, I actually ventured into my FRONT yard where the neighbors could see me to take my photos. I am getting bolder and experimenting more!

What an creative idea! I like it very much how you styled it now. And the sandals are great! Also love the color on your toe nails! Last week I also wrapped the scarf (with the Maxi tie dye post) around my head! It looked redicilious and I deleted them!

Thank you, Nancy! I do love to play around with different and unique styling ideas, but I really should take photos of the failed attempts. You know, just for laughs! I did just figure out a cute way for me to wear a headband to get through my awkward growing-out-short-hair phase! Hopefully, it looks as cute as I am imagining. Have a fabulous day!

I also don’t like sitting photos. I always end up looking awkward. I love those shoes you scored. Crazy they were only $10!

Thanks, Candace. I actually took some photos yesterday sitting on a big rock which weren’t so bad. Maybe one or two are usable! And these sandals are so comfortable, too. I couldn’t believe how inexpensive they were. But I guess that is the benefit in waiting until the end of the season to buy the trendy items!

I love the look of the tunic over the skirt, very bohemian. I love headwear myself but have a little pea head and everything is too big. lol

Thanks so much! I am really loving the tunic over a skirt, too. I have the opposite problem with hats as I have a gigantic head (thanks to genetics on my mother’s side!) I can’t find hats that are big enough to fit! Ha!

Yes, yes, yes! I love that you styled this again. Its such a great piece-love it!

Aw, thank you so much, Terri! Your enthusiasm is quite contagious! Perhaps leggings next time? I can’t find the pants that my mom made to go with it. And I just did a huge clean out. (sad face).
