Les Roses by Pierre-Joseph Redouté | Style Imitating Art
Next up for Style Imitating Art…
About Style Imitating Art
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of Meadow Tree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as presenter, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the presenter by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the presenter will share all of the submissions on her blog.
You don’t have to be a blogger to join either! In fact, you don’t even have to join but you can still use the art to inspire an outfit just for the sake of trying something different. If you want to share your inspired outfit, we invite you do so on Instagram or any other social media platform that you prefer. Just be sure to tag Salazar, Terri, and Shelbee or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!
This Week’s Presenter
Terri chose this week’s artwork because the beauty of the rose and its fragrance has always delighted and inspired her. As her roses are starting to come alive again with the arrival of spring weather, Terri went to her very large book on Redouté’s Roses, which was a gift from her mother many years ago, and chose a series of four rose illustrations as this week’s inspiration.
The Artwork
Les Roses by Pierre-Joseph Redouté
Pierre-Joseph Redouté was a Belgian botanist and painter who is best known for his watercolors of roses, lilies, and other flowers. He was an official court artist of Marie Antoinette and regarded as the greatest botanical illustrator of all time, which earned him the nickname “the Raphael of flowers”. During his expansive career, he produced hundreds if not thousands of botanical watercolors using stipple engravings.
Terri chose these four rose watercolors for this week’s challenge. You can choose one as your inspiration or you can focus on a combination of all four rose paintings to find your style.
I haven’t put any thought into this challenge yet so I have no idea which direction I am headed. But I am certain that whichever direction I choose, it will be covered with flowers!
If you want to be featured with your own art inspired outfit in Terri’s review post on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, be sure to submit your photos to her at meadowtreestyle@gmail.com by 10:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
Happy Styling!

Can you believe I don’t even like roses…… but I’m sure this theme will show a lot of colorful outfits.

I don’t think I dislike any flowers really! But I am not sure if I have any actual rose prints in my wardrobe. You will see florals though, for sure.

Hi Shelbee,
These are such beautiful prints! I may have a *few* floral prints in my wardrobe! I have to write down that I need to submit, as things just go by the wayside with me these days!
Have a great week!

Thanks, Jess! Oh, I do hope you are able to join us for this art challenge! It is always so fun to see some new people playing along! But I do understand how things go by the wayside. That seems to be the story of my life these days!
