Y’all know I don’t often do straight up “what I am wearing” type of posts. But I have been trying my hand at some seriously deep thinking and philosophical writing this week that my mind might be too exhausted for sharing anything deep today. You will have to check out my profile on Medium to see some of the other things I have been writing.

In case you don’t already know this little fact about me, I have my bachelors degree in Philosophy. I also majored in English with a minor in Religious Studies. I share this information because it evidences the fact that I have always had a passion for investigating topics of this nature. This type of thinking and writing has always been a thing that I have considered a hobby or a past time. I am only now feeling the urge to really focus on this style of writing and exploring the innermost workings of my own thoughts as they have evolved over 45 years of immersion in a society that maybe doesn’t always think the same as I do.

Now I am in the process of attempting to improve my writing skills while under the mind altering effects of natural herbal remedies. I have begun a series of essays on Medium called The Baked Sage: Thoughts and Theories of a Stoned Philosopher. And just so you don’t think I am some dopey pothead floating aimlessly through life high, I have designated two days a week as my “stoned writing days”. And then I only get slightly stoned just to enhance my ability to tap into some higher level thought processes that I can’t seem to reach when I am sober and completely distracted by all the bullshit that surrounds us in life. So I would love if you took a few minutes to read my philosophical gibberish and perhaps share your thoughts on the topics. The most recent essay in the series is called All in Good Faith: A Modern Day Ethical Theory of a Pothead.

And now to the outfit…in general I get fairly dressed up during the week to go take outfit photos for this little blog space of mine. But on the weekends, I am pretty much a slouchy slob. Ripped jeans, tee shirts, and hoodies are my go-to for running kids around or just chilling at home. I don’t usually photograph these outfits because they are kind of thrown together haphazardly for the purpose of comfort and ease. But last Saturday, I decided we should take a few photos of my actual real life weekend style.

I recently found this super cute cropped Journey hoodie at Torrid on clearance. Being a child of the 80’s and having a few Torrid rewards about to expire, how could I leave this little cutie behind? Clearly, I couldn’t leave it behind. So it’s mine now and I am kind of loving pink and light blue together as Spring is finally showing her face! I feel like an 80’s rock inspired Easter egg in this outfit.

And that’s all I have for you today. What have you all been up to lately? Does your weekend style vary drastically from your Monday through Friday style? Do share in the comments or link your posts and I will get around to reading them all shortly.

And now the featured favorites from last week’s party.

Karen of Lady in Violent shared a super fun outfit post, How to Build the Perfect Rodeo Outfit. First of all, I love Western inspired outfits so I am all about a flirty floral top and cowgirl boots. Second, the way Karen structured this post with steps for building an outfit from base pieces to final accessories is such a unique way to share an outfit post. I love it!

Jacqui of Mummabstylish shared a beautiful post,“Time for a Cuppa”, about a wonderful initiative for raising awareness around issues of dementia. The photos in this post of Jacqui and her lovely mum sharing a cuppa really just tugged at my heartstrings in the most powerful way. Do go have a read if you want all the good feels.

Shelbee you are a very talented writer and I admire your ability to speak your truth and share so openly and unabashedly. I am also admiring that Journey hoodie – glad you scooped it up and I love this comfy and stylish weekend look. Cozy and cute! Have a super weekend my friend!

Kellyann, thanks so much! It is so funny, I get really nervous sharing some of this on my blog but I have no problem sharing it on Medium. I guess I feel like I have created a good and wholesome image on the blog and then I am just a “bad girl” on the other side of it all! It’s time to just get real over here! Haha. Have a great weekend!

I tried to login but it took me to long. So I am commenting here. You definitely should write a book! I guess you already considered that, but how is the status on that? Happy weekend Shelbee!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Nancy! I am considering compiling this all into a book format once I have written more content. I figure in the meantime while I am creating the content, I might as well put on Medium where I can earn some money. I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

So glad you are getting back into writing about topics that peak your interest. Love this Journey hoodies especially since I’m an 80’s baby too. I go back and forth on how I dress for the blog. I do put some of my casual looks on there but also come up with looks that I don’t wear on a regular basis. Thanks for her the link up!

These days, I don’t know how anyone isn’t baked or bombed 24-7. The only reason I’m not is because I’m worried about the side effects when combined with the soup of medications I already have to take. None of those have any euphoric side effects. It’s all crap like insulin, thyroid medication, and blood pressure meds.
I review books and I once read a great one called Ripcord Recovery by TT Sawyer. It was about his controlled use of marijuana to prevent relapse into alcoholism and opiate addiction, both of which he’d relapsed with previously. I thought it was a very thoughtfully written book and found it a shame that what he was postulating could be considered so terribly controversial that he had to write under an assumed name.
As a former home health nurse, I’ve also seen first-hand the ways in which medical marijuana can be used. One of my patients was a pre-teen boy who had a rare genetic defect. One of the effects of this defect was frequent seizures. He was on a cocktail of pharmaceuticals which left him sleeping most of the time. With the marijuana oil, he was able to wean off of all but two of these anti-seizure meds and was much more alert.
I’m the sort of person who believes that you gotta do what you gotta do, and if it harms none, do what you will.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Cie, thank you so very much for this very insightful and thoughtful comment. I have made a note of that book because I do want to check that out for some more inspiration to guide me through my own process with this writing journey. I have written an article about how marijuana has helped me to wean off of a crazy cocktail of psych meds for bipolar disorder and how it quite literally saved my life. Now I am really into investigating where it can take me as far as higher level thinking and consciousness. It really is shame that so many are quick to judge those of us who find things that work for our own personal betterment. Thanks so much for being an amazing human being! I appreciate the way your mind works and your approach to others.

And I totally get your concern over the effects of combining anything with your prescription medications. I have to take medication to regulate my blood pressure as well and I was hoping that regular use of marijuana would help me to get off of those meds as well. They have shown that it can lower blood pressure but so far it hasn’t worked for me. Oh well. These darn bodies of ours get tricky in our later years! I hope you have an amazing weekend.

I love your brain! And your way with words!
    “The Baked Sage” — brilliant!
“80’s Easter Egg” — rolling on the floor laughing

My in-home weekend wear is total schlub, and not very colorful. The current cold weather version includes stripe knit lounge pants and a long sleeved men’s tee, both free samples from work. A wool sweater, ratty scarf, and fleece-lined knit Nepali hat over that. Wool socks and falling apart slides on my feet.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Gah, I love you so much, Anne! Thank you for your kindness and I am so glad that my description has given you a good hearty laugh. Your in-home weekend wear sounds perfectly suitable to me! It is pouring rain here right now so my outfit of the day for this dreary Friday is camo joggers, my Fireside Collective tee shirt, an oversized pilly cardigan, fleece socks, and fuzzy leopard slides. Once I dry my hair, I will probably add a beanie hat of some sort to keep the heat in! I hope you have an amazing weekend, my friend! And I love your brain, too!

It’s been raining here too! My outfit yesterday was totally wrong for the weather. Today, out come the rain boots!

        • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

The rain is better than the snow. I think. Actually, I don’t mind the snow because at least I can go outside and it is much brighter and livelier than rain! I don’t think I’ll be leaving my house today so no need for rain boots! I will stay in my fuzzy leopard slippers all day long.

How lovely to find me featured – a big thank you Shelbee. I also love that pink jacket, it’s a real winner and you’ll get plenty of use from it. Thanks for sharing today. Jacqui

Thanks so much, Lizzie! I really appreciate that! I don’t talk much about my educational background and I am not sure why. I also have a law degree which is kind of a little known fact. But all of it comes back to my love for writing. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I am totally intrigued about your two-day “stoned writing” experiment. More fodder for that ^&$#@ book we all keep harping you about!! Lol! Yup, I’m a weekend lazy, too, so your comfy outfit speaks to me.

    Happy weekend,
    xx Darlene

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Darlene! I was thinking if I wrote enough essays in this stoned writing project, I could turn it into a book! I am working on it slowly. Who knows, maybe a two week shut down from life and the world is the perfect opportunity for lots of stoned writing!

Thank you, Katie! Gah! You are a philosopher, too! I have met 2 other people plus you in my entire life who have degrees in Philosophy so I get really excited about this commonality! We are rare folks, I do believe.

I love this peek into your super casual style! After reading about your majors and minors in college I can totally see that after reading your posts! I bet you really enjoyed studying that. They all seem right in your wheelhouse!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Jess! I do love the whole process of writing from start to finish. But I do still get intimidated when it is time to share what I have written publicly. I am a little bit jealous that you saw Journey way back when! That is awesome! I hope you have a great weekend.

I really enjoyed your article on Medium. I smoked pot regularly in my late teens/early twenties and it definitely enhanced my creativity – I was studying music at the time. When I gave up smoking I went cold turkey and gave up all smoking. I don’t think I could do it now – it would make me too lazy…and I’d get the munchies all the time!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Emma, thanks so much for sharing your experience! You know, I only smoked at bedtime for such a long time because it did make me so sleepy. I didn’t want to be unproductive, but now that I have changed my mindset I am able to be productive when I smoke. But I have to have that idea in my head at the moment I smoke…and get right to work! There are also so many new strains now and lots of them are cultivated to make you more alert and awake so I don’t get lazy! Haha. The munchies though, that is definitely a problem for me!

What a fun paisley pink bomber jacket! It’s great you are able to write for other places and not just on your blog 🙂 I giggled a little at the stoned comment though – while I know it’s legal in some places in the US it’s still very illegal here in Australia.

Hope that you are having a lovely weekend! We are having a quiet one here 🙂

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Mica! Yeah, it is getting to be more and more socially acceptable to smoke pot these days in the U.S. Even where it is not totally legal, it’s kind of like no one really cares any more. we are also having a quiet weekend. My kids’ school has closed until April 17 so we are taking the time to reset life!

Haha, Michelle, I just commented on your paisley nails! I have loved paisleys for as long as I can remember! It is one of my favorite patterns but so hard to come by. You do need a crochet hat! I have this same one in 7 colors! I love it!

  • Chrissy Rowden

I often have to do a straight up outfit post. To be transparent, Instagram takes a lot of time and my blog suffers for it so I’m trying to balance more. Back to brainstorming content ideas that I think my readers want to read and that interests me – ha! Not so easy, right? As for you outfit, I love the pink bomber jacket and mittens. The jeans look so comfy and “cool”. Ahh, fashion. it’s too much fun for our goods sometimes. lol

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Chrissy, thanks so much! It really is a hard balance to strike. I find it interesting where other bloggers focus their time and attention. I don’t spend a lot of time on IG at all, but maybe I should. It’s hard to determine where our audiences come from, isn’t it?! Fashion is definitely too much fun for our good, but right now, I guess we can all use a little light hearted fun even if it means just sharing our outfits! Stay safe and healthy, my friend.
