About Style Imitating Art
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of Meadow Tree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as presenter, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the presenter by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the presenter will share all of the submissions on her blog.
You don’t have to be a blogger to join either! In fact, you don’t even have to join but you can still use the art to inspire an outfit just for the sake of trying something different. If you want to share your inspired outfit, we invite you do so on Instagram or any other social media platform that you prefer. Just be sure to tag Salazar, Terri, and Shelbee or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

Salazar chose this week’s art and it is really fascinating!
The Artwork
Jeweled Caddisflies by Hubert Duprat
A few more images…
Caddisflies are insects with aquatic larvae that are known for making their larval cases out of any type of material available to them. French artist Hubert Duprat decided to collaborate with the insect larvae by providing them with precious metals and stones for the construction of their cases. And the result is nothing short of stunning.
I am not going to share anymore because you really need to see it for yourself. There are more photos as well as artist interviews and videos of the caddisfly larvae at work in these articles about the collaboration between bugs and artist.

I am stumped for outfit styling ideas but I do have some jewelry in mind as a starting point. If you want to join us for this week’s challenge and be featured with your art inspired outfit in Salazar’s review post on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, please be sure to submit your photos to her at 14shadesofgreyblog@gmail.com by 10:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.
Happy styling!

This just blows me away! What gorgeous creations! I I wonder what happened to the casings when the flies were out? Hmmm…I’ll have to find out! I am totally stumped on this…like you, I’ve got some jewelry in mind…but not much else!

Isn’t it all so fabulous?! I actually found some really cool jewelry on Etsy that is made from caddisfly casings. They don’t use precious metals and gemstones in those, they are mostly made from colorful gravel bits and then I think they get sprayed with some kind of lacquer. I am thinking I might need to get myself a pair! I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with for this one!
