Inspired by Walking in Memphis in High Heels: Spring Style

This is not a sponsored post.

It is the final day of Spring with the Summer Solstice coming tomorrow and I am only just now getting to show off some actual Spring clothes! I have had this darling little dress hanging in my closet for a few years and have shown it on the blog once before styled with tights and over the knee boots in Winter. Because when you live in a place where it is Winter for eleven months and Summer for one month, you have to get creative with clothing for different seasons. I don’t want to look like an Eskimo all year round!

Back in March, I saw Laura of Walking in Memphis in High Heels wearing the cutest little dress in blush pinks that reminded me of this one. She had paired hers with white booties and I was totally smitten with the whole look. So I knew I had to copy it! But March in the North Country was still too cold to ditch the tights and over the knee boots for short white ankle booties, so I pinned Laura’s outfit and waited for warmer days.

I am little envious that Laura is totally bare legged with her adorable boho dress in March. I photographed my dress in mid-May and still needed nude stockings so I wouldn’t catch a chill! But it is getting warmer here and I’ll be complaining about the heat in no time.

I don’t know if you all are familiar with Laura, but I have been following her blog for about as long as I have been blogging (which will be 4 years in August, by the way), maybe even longer. In fact, I think Laura’s Trend Spin Up Link Party co-hosted with Erin of The Fashion Canvas is one of the very first link parties that I joined. Laura is a working mom (from Memphis) of a beautiful daughter, Leighton, who makes her way into Laura’s Mommy and Me fashion posts. Laura also recently announced her engagement to her handsome beau Matt. Their love and support for one another is so evident and such a joy to witness. If you are looking for fun fashion inspiration and some of the hottest shopping deals available, Laura is right on top of it all and sharing it on her blog.

I don’t know this cat…but it was a very friendly cat.

Now about these photos…my husband and I headed about 1/2 mile down the road from our house to the gardens behind the Jefferson Country Historical Society. The historical society is housed in the Paddock Mansion which was the former home of a local banker, Edwin L. Paddock, and his wife Olive (Wheeler). The mansion was built between 1876 and 1878 with elements of a Tuscan Villa and a Swiss Chalet combined to suit both husband and wife. In 1922, Mrs. Paddock bequeathed the home to the historical society and it opened as a museum in 1924.

The museum contains exhibits from both the Paddock family as well as local Jefferson County history. It consists of three floors inside the Paddock Mansion as well as three outbuildings. The collection includes over 100,000 artifacts including letters, portraits, photographs, clothing, furniture, and automobiles.

The gardens behind the Paddock Mansion are a popular spot for photography sessions. I have had professional photos taken in this location with Sarissa Melissa Photography and the results were so beautiful. In fact, the day we shot these photos, there was another couple in the gardens doing the exact same thing. We had a friendly conversation and laughed about the plight of Instagram husbands/boyfriends!

If you are local to Jefferson County, my dear friends Laura and Nichole of New York Life Insurance Company are hosting a Little Floral Dress Event, which is a free women’s networking event next Friday, June 28, in the gardens at The Jefferson County Historical Society. I attended their very first networking event, The Little Red Dress Event, and it was such a wonderful, empowering, inspiring night spent with so many amazing women. If you can, I encourage you to put on your favorite floral dress and join us! You can register for your free tickets here.

And whether you are local to Jefferson County, New York, or not, do follow Laura of Walking in Memphis in High Heels! You can also find her on Bloglovin’, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. You will certainly be inspired!
