Inspired by This Blonde’s Shopping Bag: Plaid Blazer & White Booties
First, I have to tell you that I adore Kellyann of This Blonde’s Shopping Bag. I don’t know how long ago it was that she and I found each other in the grand wilderness of blogland, but we became fast blogger friends right from the first introduction. It is funny how you can never meet a person in real life but still have about a million things in common. And one thing, for sure, that Kellyann and I have in common is our love for shopping, all things fashion, and apparently plaid blazers and white booties.
When white booties really hit the trend scene last year, I was hesitant at first. I finally ordered a pair of patent leather ones from Forever 21. They are super cute but a bit snug so not very comfortable for all day wear. Then I found a pair with a tan heel (similar to Kellyann’s) and they are pretty fabulous. And then I became obsessed, adding a pair with kitten heels and then this pair from Charlotte Russe. I simply could not stop myself. If you check out Kellyann’s post, Sunday Showcase: How to Wear White Boots, she shared her journey to finding the perfect white booties for her. Then she recreated a look that she had pinned on Pinterest.
Following her lead, I am sharing a similar look featuring the same exact plaid blazer as Kellyann’s with my white booties. While my look was not authentically inspired by Kellyann’s (I had photographed this outfit exactly 4 days before Kellyann posted her plaid blazer and white booties look), but I am fascinated by the serendipitous styling of similar outfits. This seems to happen rather frequently with Kellyann and me. So it really makes sense to share Kellyann’s outfit along with mine.
My outfit is a different in that I layered a graphic tee under my blazer as opposed to a striped button down (which looks fabulous with the plaid, by the way). But as Kellyann says, “[T]hat’s what’s fun about re-creating a look – it doesn’t need to be identical. Get inspired and use what you have!”
And that is the best way to recreate an outfit that you adore on someone else. Find similar pieces in your closet and start playing around with them. The more creative you become with your style attempts, the more amazing you will feel!
Thanks so much, Kellyann, for always inspiring me whether it is with your style choices or your encouraging words. I am grateful for your friendship and so glad that our blogging paths have crossed!
Where do you find your inspiration? It could be style, cooking, decorating, motivation, or anything in life really. we all have different places where we find inspiration. And sometimes, it just comes out of nowhere and hit us smack in the face! I would love to your stories of inspiration!
And always remember to Use Your Power to Empower!
Keeping it on the edge,
Shelbee

I love both looks. I really like that plaid blazer. I bought a pair of white snakeskin booties that I still haven’t figured out how to style with what I have. You’ve inspired me to try again.

Cathy, thanks so much! I have a pair of white and gray snakeskin boots and I have to admit they do present a bit of a styling challenge. I have put them on and taken them off more times than I have actually worn them. They seem to work best with muted neutrals like ivory, tan, and gray. Any other color in the outfit throws the boots off completely…maybe that helps you with styling yours. Just keep trying different combinations, eventually you find the perfect combination.

Oh my goodness Shelbee! I am practically in tears, you are so kind and your words so sweet. Even the words on your tee – LOVE! It is funny isn’t it how things just turn out sometimes, great minds do think alike and I am honored to have you as a friend. I simply adore this look. It is funny how we were both hesitant about white boots at first and then bam, we were obsessed! The only thing that would have made this better for us is if we could have done photos together, now wouldn’t that be fun! Love you my friend!!!

Kellyann, I was so excited when I saw your outfit and it really made me chuckle that I had just styled something so similar! Great minds do think alike…and they have great style, too! Oh my word, photos together would be fabulous and so much! One of these days, our paths will cross in real life and I imagine we will get ourselves into some great fun trouble of sorts with an over abundance of laughter added into the mix. Love you, too!

Isn’t it funny how the two of you came up with “the same, but different” outfit combination? I love both variations and they reflect both of your styling points of view so well. If I HAD a blazer I’d try to come up with a similar look. Wait a minute, I’d need the booties, too, oh well!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Kim! I am always so fascinated how two bloggers end up creating similar looks at the same time without ever sharing with each other ahead of time. It really makes me believe in the concept of the collective consciousness! We obviously find inspiration from similar sources, too. But it really is a really cool coincidence and super fun to share when it happens.

Hi Shelbee! Thanks for leaving a comment on 1010ParkPlace because I know who you are! I read the “About” you on your blog, and you’ve indeed had a lot to deal with and survive. I write about “Survival” a lot… My survival started at birth, six weeks premature and an Rh-Negative baby. Since then my father died, mother and I role reversed, both of my husbands have died and I’ve had breast cancer, but LIFE IS GOOD! Like you, I’m determined to keep moving forward. I love knowing where to find you and will see you again, Brenda
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Brenda, I cannot thank you enough for this beautiful comment! I am always so fascinated by people’s stories of survival! We all have a story, too, don’t we? It is so important for us to talk about our journeys as our struggles and our successes can help others who may be struggling as well. Just knowing you are not alone in this crazy life, that there is an entire community of empowering, kind, and loving people out there, carries a lot of power in and of itself! I will certainly be stopping by 1010ParkPlace for more inspiration!

Thanks so much, Brooke! It is really cool to discover another blogger with very similar fashion tastes. I have a few blogger friends like that and it would be super fun to go on a shopping trip with them!
