Inspired by Sharing a Journey: How to Style Joggers
A long while back, (I have lost all sense of time so I cannot say how long ago), I had a little conversation with Jodie about my inability to effectively style joggers for non-workout purposes. I have tried dozens of times to mimic photos I have seen on Instagram and Pinterest where these gorgeous women are strolling casually down a city street wearing joggers with pumps or heeled sandals and looking perfectly purposeful in this paradoxical outfit combination. I would try a similar combination, look in the mirror, and say out loud, “Gosh, you look ridiculous.” Time and again, the same result, until I was about ready to give up the whole damn idea.
Then I saw Nina of Sharing a Journey styling a pair of twill joggers with a blazer and heeled sandals for a super chic and stylish look in her post, Over 50 Style: How to Style Joggers. I recalled a very similar pair of olive green twill joggers in my closet that I found in my local consignment shop last summer. Until now, I have only ever worn them around the house with a tee shirt or sweater and never really concerned myself with which style of shoes would work because I never before wore these pants with shoes. Always at home, always barefoot, that seems to be my natural state these days.
In any event, when I saw Nina’s 3 ways of styling joggers, I knew I had to give the joggers one more try. And I am so glad that I did. Because I really liked the result. I have both Jodie and Nina to thank for pushing me outside of my jogger comfort zone! Perhaps you will see me wearing joggers more often now that I have some inspiration to successfully guide to me to a stylish outcome rather than a style disaster.
Enough about pants though. Pants are boring. Let me talk about Nina. This post is, after all, a spotlight on this wonderful woman and her amazing style. I am just the copy cat today. And the writer of the words that are meant to showcase all of the lovely things that I know about Nina and her award-winning blog for women aged 50 and over.
Nina began her blogging journey around the same time that I began mine and we connected in the blogging world very early on. Through sharing comments with each other to establishing an email correspondence, a wonderful friendship was born. There is an ease about Nina that allows you to be open and honest and authentic without fear of judgment. She is a woman who grows more comfortable and confident in her own skin with each passing year, sending out messages to other woman to live their best lives, openly, happily, and confidently.
As Nina reached her midlife years, she realized that it was living a very different life from the one she had been living and the one that she had imagined. She calls this period a “midlife renaissance” and felt compelled to share her journey with other women. Nina’s overall blogging goal is similar to mine…to create a welcoming community of like minded women who are guided by their hearts as we navigate our way through this often confusing period of life.
Nina addresses topics such as exercise, beauty, mental and physical health, and of course, fashion, all with the midlife woman in mind. She is also a recent empty nester and a wonderful resource for transitioning through this challenging period of life as a parent. I have learned much from this lovely woman over the years from style tips to menopause management and I feel blessed to count her among my group of great blogger friends.
If you do not already follow Nina, you can find her on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Pinterest. Or you can subscribe to her blog, Sharing a Journey.

One final request: My sister asked me to share this here. She has a friend, Ali Albers, who has reached the quarterfinals in the Maxim Cover Girl Model Contest and she needs our votes to win.
Ali is a 35 year old widow, mother, and nursing professor who is rediscovering herself in a way that makes her feel sexy, smart, kind, and confident. She is currently in 4th place in the quarterfinals of this contest, just a few steps away from winning the grand prize and changing her life forever. While every woman deserves this chance at rediscovery, right now is Ali’s chance and she can use our help. Just click here to vote…it is as easy as that! (Voting ends on July 16). Thank you so much in advance.

One of my most favourite outfits on you Shelbee, I’m tempted to get some joggers myself now! Jacqui x
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Aw, thanks so much, Jacqui! This is definitely a bit more conservative than my typical style, but I really like it, too! I look forward to seeing you style joggers, my friend! I can totally picture you in an outfit like this one.

Wow. I don’t wear joggers – they don’t look good on me, even just for walking around the house. But seeing you look good in them, I may have to give them another try. I love your usual style; this look is just a more refined version. Great job!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Cary Jo, thanks so much! I had the same problem with joggers, they really don’t look great on me either even for lounging around at home. But they are so comfortable that I wear them anyway. I am glad I gave them another shot as actual clothing to wear out of my house. This is definitely a much more conservative outfit than my norm, but I am digging it! I hope you have a fabulous day and give those joggers another try!

Ha! I had to look twice to confirm you are in fact wearing joggers! I love this look! For me, the scarf as a belt is the perfect finishing touch. Cool style steal.

Karen, the next best thing to mummy
As a stroke survivor with only one working hand, I live in joggers because of the elasticated waist#anyrhinggoes@_karendennis
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Karen, thanks for stopping by. Elastic waistbands definitely provide ease for getting dressed and they have so many different styles of joggers that you can be as dressed up or as dressed down as you want. I hope your week is off to a great start!

Im finally getting around to seeing these pics! I love the outfit so much, one of my favorites! I need to do a blogger inspo post! The pants look great with the black jacket and I love the shoes. Your hair looks so good long and its shinny! Mine has been up in a ponytail or bun lately, so hot!

Thanks so much, Jess! This outfit was a bit more conservative than my normal style, but I really felt great wearing it! If ever I have to go somewhere and need to be dressed a bit more conservatively, I will totally go for this outfit again. My hair is a damn disaster right now! I need to get it colored but my stylist is still not back to work. And I don’t feel like coloring it myself again, but I may have to. I can’t stand my dull gray roots! Stay cool, my friend!

ADA
I love dressier joggers like silky type or ones made of softer materials, not like sweat pants. Yours are perfect and so are Nina’s and you both look divine in these outfits. This kind of look is something I would wear head to toe! Love your shoes and Nina’s bag a lot. Love your take on this look slightly better and you got her poses down, too lol. Thank you for writing this and sharing so many wonderful words about Nina. I always love when you do these posts and I hope I can continue to inspire you fashion-wise and other-wise as well! =) Just like you always inspire me, Michelle! =))
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Ada, thanks so much for this very lovely and flattering comment! You are so kind! And you do always inspire me sartorially and in many other ways as well! These are some of my favorite posts to write. Styling myself for them keeps my getting dressed routine a little more exciting, too!
