Inspired by Pinterest & Carson: Colorful Tights
Carson might kill me for putting his name right there in the title of my post. All big and bold and glaring you in the face. Or maybe he won’t. I guess I’ll find out when he reads it. But I had to do it. Because he really did inspire this outfit. In case you are asking, “Who the heck is Carson?”, you can just go to the search bar here on my blog and type his name. It will bring you directly to every post where he has been mentioned. You can even see his face in some of the posts.
So now, how did my friend inspire this outfit? No, he doesn’t wear dresses. Or tights. Or white sandals. Or even berets for that matter. But he is a man with a keen eye for women’s fashion, the kind of bold and colorful styles that I really do appreciate. And when I went on a massive tights splurge a few months ago, he casually suggested kelly green tights. I sort of rolled my eyes at this suggestion as I conjured images of Christmas elves and Peter Pan. Something about bright green tights just seemed a bit too costumey for me, but he insisted that I would find a way to style this ever so challenging color on my legs. So I ordered the kelly green tights (along with 9 other colors) from my favorite hosiery website, Sock Dreams.
And then the green ones just sat there. Unworn and nearly forgotten. I have styled all the other colors, olive, red, purple, royal blue, rust, fuchsia, white, black, and rainbow. But the kelly green continued to baffle me. Which is sort of odd since green is my all time favorite color ever and has been for as long as I can remember. Then something reminded me of the green tights, I can’t remember what it was, and I decided it was time to get creative.
I always love to add a bright color to an all black and white outfit. So I started scoping around Pinterest for ideas that incorporated green (or other brightly colored) tights with black and white outfits. Then I remembered this black and white plaid dress that I had recently secured for myself from the Torrid clearance rack. It was the perfect piece to showcase my green tights.
I wanted to be somewhat unpredictable (in the event that bright green tights are predictable) so I opted for white peep toe sandals instead of the more likely black shoes. I added my green vintage heart necklace that I found in a thrift shop about a million years ago, and my tiny furry leopard bag just for more added interest. To ensure that I was going straight over the top, I had to incorporate my white beret with the gigantic pom pom. You know, keeping it all a bit unexpected and playing around with different colors and patterns. And taking chances. And being bold. And doing it all with some sort of confidence that not everyone will think I look utterly ridiculous.
And now that I gave you the details of building this lively outfit, I do need to talk about the tights themselves. I assure you that this is not a sponsored post. Sock Dreams tights are seriously the most amazingly comfortable tights I have ever worn. And I wear a lot of tights. These are buttery soft to the touch. They stay in place, they don’t roll down, and they don’t get droopy. Most of the tights I order from Sock Dreams are their basic Opaque Tights which come in a large variety of colors. They sell out of certain colors quite often, but they usually restock quickly. And at only $10 a pair, you definitely get your money’s worth. I wear them over and over again with no issues in pulling or running. I wash them on gentle and hang them to dry. I have been shopping this website for nearly a decade and I have never been disappointed.
Who has inspired your outfits lately? Have you styled anything super challenging like bright green tights?!
Keeping it on the edge,
Shelbee

I love colored tights. I have a few from last year an wear them a lot again. But it’s not easy to find a good hosiery shop online. But I will check if yours ship overseas. That is a gorgeous shade of green, and a beautiful necklace. I am also looking for lace tights or other printed good ones! We need to give our hosiery more attention don’t we? Well I do!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Nancy! I am having so much fun with the bright tights this year! I do love lace and printed ones, too. Sock Dreams has it all and it looks like they do ship internationally! I don’t know what it will cost you, but I have been so happy with their products for ten years that it might be worth the shipping cost. Ooh, maybe hosiery is a good theme for an upcoming Good Buy/Good-Bye Book…I definitely have some bad buys in my bin of socks and tights!

10 pairs? I guess you definitely can use them up North with the cold, lol! You created a great look: I love how you paired it with black and white so it is not Chrismasey looking for fun and fashionable! Two thumbs up!

Aw, Mireille, thanks so much! It was difficult to keep green tights from looking like Christmas! Although, when Christmas comes, I can be totally silly and wear them with a red dress. I probably have hundreds of pairs of tights that I have accumulated over the years…striped and argyle and patterned and all sorts of fun ones! I am a bit of a sucker for cute tights.

Oooh I love hosiery!!! The white peep toe shoes with those are great! I have green velvet otk/thigh highs that are sometimes tricky for me to incorporate into an out— but, I do it!!!

What a fun way to style green tights! Carson was spot on and I love how you styled it. The pop of the color is just enough contrast to the rest of your outfit and how cool that your necklace also has similar shade as your tights. Btw, I am smitten with your necklace. It’s a total beauty!

Aw, Maureen, thank you so very much! Carson definitely throws some fantastically creative styling ideas at me and he is usually spot on! I love this necklace, too. I don’t even know how long ago it was that I found this beauty in a thrift shop and I think I only have worn it once or twice, but I can’t let go of it because it so fun and unique.

Guys can wear tights too. I have been wearing opaque tights for many years and find them very comfortable and very practical.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you for commenting, Hugo! I agree, guys can absolutely wear tights, too. In fact, I am a firm believer that we can all wear whatever makes us happy! I was merely stating that Carson does not wear tights or dresses, but I know many men who do, some very close of friends of mine. I do love my tights! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Oh wow, Shelbee! I love what you have done with those tights. I don’t have anything bolder than olive when it comes to green. Now I know I need to change that! Kx

Aw, thanks, Kellyann! Carson is pretty freaking amazing! My favorite Carson quote ever (I think I shared it a while back in a post) is this…I sent him a photo of an awesome pair of shoes and I said, “I want these shoes, but how many pairs of shoes does one woman need?” His reply was, “As many as she wants.” Like, seriously, man! He stole my shoe addicted heart with that one!

What fun tights! they are a great way to add sum colour to a monochrome outfit> i have a pair of navy tights, but they are so dark they look black, like all my other black tights, haha! i really need to change it up a bit with other colours! 🙂

Emma Peach
Such a fun outfit Shelbee! I would never have thought to put green tights with white shoes but it really works! I had loads of tights in all different colours and patterns but they got lost in the last house move. I’m sure they must be in the loft somewhere…unless the removal men fancied them! Thanks for linking up!
