Inspired by Pinterest: Black Tulle and Combat Boots
A few weeks ago, I was scrolling through Pinterest to find inspiration for our next Fab 40’s theme, which is a really fabulous theme by the way, so be sure to stop by on Monday and check it out. During my scrolling session, I came upon these all black Gothic-ish outfits which featured voluminous black skirts (most of them tulle), oversized black tops, and black boots. While the style has absolutely nothing to do with the upcoming Fab 40’s theme that I needed to be preparing for, I found myself pinning all of these looks like an obsessed person. Something about them was just screaming to my inner punk rock, Goth, emo-girl from days of yore.
So I went to my closet and grabbed my black tulle skirt, my favorite black turtleneck sweater, my unbreakable Sheertex tights, and my very old but very trusty black combat boots. This is actually what I wore on Easter Sunday for a family walk in the park. It was a bit colder than I had anticipated, so I added one of my favorite hats, the one that Jeff calls my gnome hat.
I was feeling very much in my element dressed this way. In fact, I was almost comfortable enough to wear this all day long, but by the time we got home from our chilly walk, my sweatpants won the day!
Although sweatpants have been a daily staple for me over the past 6 weeks, I am getting tired of them and have been at least putting on jeans and a sweater most days this past week. With the weather starting to reach peaks of 50 degrees in the day time, I can actually step outside of my house comfortably without freezing. And that seems to be incentive enough to ditch my bathrobe and wear actual clothing.
I know it has been difficult for many of us to get inspired to get dressed these days, so when I spot something that appeals to me at all, I grab hold of that tiny spark of inspiration and have some fun with it. How are you staying outfit motivated these days?
Keeping it on the edge,
Shelbee

For sure fun to put “real” clothes on these days! Love those boots.

Thank you, Tamar! I have been trying to at least put on jeans for a few hours a day so that I can keep my waistline from expanding too much!

Tulle and combat boots! I love that combination. The contrast of styles is what I love!

Thanks so much, Nancy! My favorite contrast, too…a little bit girly and a little bit edgy!

Thanks so much, Jennifer! I think they are about a million years old! Well, maybe not that old, but I had them since before I met my husband which was in 2008 so they are at least that old!

Looking very sweet. Love the whole look. The gnome hat is too cute.
Wish I there was a goth girl like you when I went to school (with all due respect).
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you so much, Patrick! And that is a very wonderful compliment! I think we would have hit it off wonderfully during our school aged years…because you know, weirdos attract weirdos and dorks unite, right?! Ha, with all due respect! But I think we know each well enough to call out our weirdo-dorkiness with confidence!

Black is my favourite color! And tulle and boots are amazing combination. You paired it so well. And off course, add on is the contagious smile. Positive aura always! 😊

Nanchi, thank you so very much! Black is my favorite color, too, but I have been trying to add more colors. I guess I go in waves with color! And a smile is always the best accessory, isn’t it?

Loving the combat boots, I have just got some dr marten style boots with smiley faces on the side. I can’t wear long boots as I have cankles !!!
I love wearing an oversized cardigan with an oversized t shirt and a pair leggings with either trainers or boots.
I love the hat, I would love one like that !!! When normality returns I shall hunt for one ! My style is vintage, but slightly quirky! I can’t do totally vintage as I am a bit of a chubby kitty.

Thanks so much, Alika! Your style sounds fairly similar to mine! I also love vintage but can rarely find anything that fits my plus sized frame either! I look forward to hitting the thrift shops once we return to normal living. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

I really like the vibe of this outfit, but I absolutely adore the dichotomy of the black combat boots and the flowers on your cap. It totally appeals to me.
As for inspiration for fashion, I have a number of warm weather dresses that I ordered in the depths of winter, and am enjoying finally getting wear them. As is typical of Las Vegas, it appears we have zoomed from the 70’s to the 90s leaving the 80’s out completely. It’s supposed to be 100 on Wednesday. LOL!

Thank you so much, Michelle! I do love my combat boots and silly hats! I seriously almost always wear a hat like this at home because I am always cold. And while you will be hitting 100 tomorrow, I will be enjoying a mild 60 degrees with temperatures dipping back into the 30’s next week. So no summer dresses for me yet!
