Inspired by Monica and Ewa: Poncho Love & Link Up On the Edge #134
Happy Friday, my friends! I have to say I am getting seriously bored and frustrated with the Winter weather now. I’m cold and there is always snow on the ground. And at this point in the season, the snow is all mucky and black and splotchy and just plain old gross! Although just the other day, we did get a fresh new coating of clean snow…again. It will be all icky in a day or two. But complaining about the weather really is quite fruitless. It brings me no joy and it changes nothing. So I’ll stop there and move on to sharing with you another outfit inspired by some amazing blogger friends. It’s the only way these days, it seems, that I can get inspired to get dressed…by seeing all my friends in blogland putting themselves together in cute outfits everyday! So thank you. Keep up the great work! It is not for nothing…it keeps me going.
So here’s the story behind the inspiration…I was drinking my coffee on Wednesday morning making my blog rounds…it’s what I do every morning while I drink my coffee. And I hopped on over to join Monica and Ewa’s Midweek Link Up. In case you don’t know who I’m talking about…Monica writes the blog Jersey Girl, Texan Heart and her momma Ewa writes the blog 60 Plus Experience. I have been good blogging buddies with Monica for quite some time. In fact, I had the opportunity this past summer to meet up with her coffee and a photo shoot in New Jersey. You can read all about our day here. She has recently moved to sunny Florida, leaving us Northerners shivering in our boots, including her fabulous mom, Ewa, whom still resides in New Jersey. With much encouragement and prompting from Monica, Ewa recently launched her own fashion blog and she is such a joy to have in this community! Anyway, on Wednesday, they shared one of their Who Wore It Better posts featuring the same beautiful poncho.
Needless to say, I absolutely adored both of their outfits. I was loving the all black bases to allow for the gorgeous ponchos to stand center stage. So I found my inspiration for the day and went to my closet. I didn’t have a poncho in these soft subtle tones of gray, black, and white, but I did have a fun plaid poncho that worked perfectly for my interpretation.
If you are interested in the details of Monica’s and Ewa’s outfits and how the series of Who Wore It Better came to be, do go check out each of their blog posts (links are in the caption of their photo). Monica has been featuring her mom in this series for way longer than Ewa has had her own blog. So it only made sense that Ewa would eventually launch her own fashion blog. Plus she has lots of other fun posts from home decor to food…and when she gets talking about her traditional Polish dishes, my belly starts growling!
Also, in case you didn’t know, Monica and I co-host a monthly linkup called Your Own Twist on the third Thursday of every month. We pick a theme for each month and then we each style it “with our own twist” and we invite anyone else to join us for the style prompt or to just link up any fashion posts that you’d like. And I guess that’s just what I did here. I took Monica’s and Ewa’s outfits and created my own with my own twist! That’s the really fun stuff about fashion and style…drawing from what we like on others and recreating it in a way that suits us best.
Are you all feeling antsy for Spring and warm weather fashion? I know I am. But get used to snowy photos from me because there are lots more to come. I have accumulated a bunch and we have still have snow forecasted at least a week out. And that’s me being positive. We will still see snow here in May! So please keep inspiring me! I rely on you all!
And now your featured favorites from last week’s party.
Karen of Lady in Violet shared her post, What I Eat in a Week: Healthy Meal Prep & Dinner Ideas. The things we put in our bodies absolutely have an effect on the way we feel. I have recently made some changes and have lost over 20 pounds in just a few months. And I feel great! Karen’s post has some wonderful meal prep ideas to help you focus on healthier eating! I will definitely be trying some her suggestions.

We had 4 inches of snow this am — made me so happy!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Ha, Tamar, that’s because you didn’t spend the past 3 months buried in multiple feet of snow! Although, I did like the new fresh coating of snow we just got. It is much prettier than the black icy sludge that has been hanging around here. Have a great weekend!

like you I find the snow just getting balck/grey and icky but there is no point in complaining. Love that cape/shawl
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Linda! And yeah, complaining about it does nothing but get me more irritated! Spring will arrive one of these days…although we still have 3 more weeks of official winter. Have a great weekend, my friend!

I would feel pretty depressed if we had snow for that long! In fact, we just returned from the UK and we had the most unbelievable weather! It was 18 degrees celsius! Fabulous! Anyway, the poncho is fantastic to wear when it is colder! Have a lovely weekend dear!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Oh, I am getting depressed by all the cold and snow, for sure, Nancy! I cannot wait for some sunshine and fresh air! I am so glad that you had beautiful weather for your vacation. You deserved a wonderful vacation! Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Thanks so much, Kathrine! I saw this Old Navy poncho featured in Rebook a few years ago and I had to have it! I had to wait for it to become available for so long before I could get it! But I still have it and wear a few years later. Have a great weekend, my friend!

I don’t love it, but I don’t mind the snow when it’s pretty. However, like you, it’s just so icky when it’s dirty, slushy and gray. I don’t love the 90’s either, but I am over all of this. I love your poncho! That’s one good thing about the cold hanging around!

I am so with you on all of this, Debbie! If there were a place where the temperature stayed between 45 and 65 all year long, I would move there and I would live happily ever after never complaining about the weather! I do love cold weather clothing and layering though. But I also love my cut off shorts and light flowy kimonos! Thanks for stopping by today and have a great weekend.

I’m with you about the winter weather. We just had 3 inches of snow last night. I must admit that it looks pretty out there, but I’m ready for warm. Have a great weekend.

Thanks so much, Julie! We just did photos outside and it is like 4 degrees. I am so cold! And there seems to be no warm weather in sight!

I am antsy for spring, but i know the weather is not dependent on me and my wishes. Besides March and April are our snowiest months. And there’s been MANY Mother’s Days that it snows. So i’m not holding out hope. But we are going to AZ next week, so I’ll get a taste of it soon. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad…ha ha

I don’t know why we start getting so antsy when it is still winter for 3 more weeks! Probably because where we live (and where you live), winter starts in October and lasts until May! By March, I am done with it. I hope you have a fantastic time in Arizona, my friend!

Hi Shelbee
I had forgotten how much longer your winter lasts! I’m wishing you warm weather and sunshine for you very soon! In the meantime, I know you’ll stay warm in that beautiful plaid cape! Also, I’ll definitely check out the blogs you mentioned. Thanks so much for the link up!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Suzanne, thank you so very much, my friend! I think Spring will be here soon…it will stay cold for a while longer, but hopefully with some more sunshine, it will be more bearable! I think you will adore Monica and Ewa! Have a great weekend.

Kimberly Malkiewicz
You did a nice job with your inspiration look. Your bright red adds cheeriness to your grey background. I feel for you in the never ending dreariness of March (being a former Midwesterner), that’s what makes where I live such a popular destination. Hang in there, girlfriend!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Kim! I am starting to hear and see more birds around, so I think Spring is very near! Soon I’ll be complaining that it is too hot!

We had a little sun yesterday but it will be back to our gray, rain this evening. Looks great as always. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.

Thank you, Patrick! I guess I like the snow more than rain…at least it makes for prettier photographs! Although a nice light Spring drizzle is somewhat comforting, isn’t it?

That cape is so pretty on you!! We don’t get snow where I live BUT summer is horrific with consecutive 110+ degree days for a six month stretch (definitely not looking forward too that!). I hope you get some sunshine soon! <3
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Liz! As much as I have been complaining about the long cold winter, I would much rather this than never ending summers with long hot days! Anything over 70 degrees is too hot for me! So the trade off, I guess, is that where I live summers are usually pretty mild and short, so I guess I’ll take the winter in stride!

shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Rama! We also have snow forecasted over the next 10 days here and there. On a more positive note, however, I have been seeing and hearing more birds around. That is a sure sign that spring is coming, isn’t it?!

I am so sick of the cold weather! I was watching the news and it said it was over 20 degrees colder than average for this time of year so at least I know I am not crazy! Even the 40s would be better than this! But I’m not ready to dress for spring until it actually comes so leather leggings and sweaters and ponchos are my go-to! Love how this outfit turned out on you!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Laura! I can’t really think about warmer weather clothing either because it is just too darn cold. This winter has been brutal on everyone, it seems. I hope we have a mild summer because I can’t stand when it is too hot either!

I have wanted a poncho for I don’t know how long now! I see it and it just looks amazing but when I try it on, it’s frumpy and I just get lost in it. You, Monica and Ewa all look great in your outfits! I do love your tartan poncho. Those colors never fail to amaze me. I hope the snow quit it for a bit so that you guys can get a break. We have been getting rained on, on our end and my little cactus died. So I am not super thrilled about the rain right now. I hope your weekend is going well so far.
Maureen | http://www.littlemisscasual.com
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Maureen! I am thinking because you are petite, maybe try belting the poncho to give it some shape so it doesn’t overwhelm your frame. Or one in a thinner fabric may work better for you as well. I am so sorry about your cactus! And days and days of rain are totally depressing, aren’t they? No end of the snow in sight here, everything was covered in it again this morning! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
