Inspired by Granola & Grace: Bermuda Shorts & Button Ups
I have long been baffled by the styling of Bermuda shorts on me. I have fairly long legs yet Bermuda shorts have this tendency to make them look short and stumpy and wide and just not quite as good as shorter shorts. I suppose it is all in the proportions and how they suit the shape of my body. But time and again, I keep spotting some of my favorite blogger friends wearing Bermuda style shorts and looking freaking adorable in them.
Although I have tried and failed multiple times in the past to make longer length shorts look decent enough on me, I was still not defeated in my pursuit. I had bought these red Bermuda shorts on clearance last year because I loved the color and they are super comfortable. I was not completely sold on the style and so they sat unworn for almost a year. Until I saw my beautiful friend Chrissy of Granola & Grace sporting her denim Bermuda Shorts & Button Ups.
Because I trust Chrissy’s sense of style among other things, I decided I should give these shorts a try with a button down style top (my top actually has a zipper instead of buttons) and wedge sandals just like Chrissy. I am so glad that I didn’t give up on my Bermuda shorts because I really quite like the final outcome of this combination.
I featured Chrissy in a post over two years ago when I copied her camo and distressed denim style. It is still one of my favorite outfits to date. I have worn the combination countless times over the past 27 months. And I rarely repeat exact outfits. But that is just how cool Chrissy’s style is…I could repeat her influence over and over again while staying true to my own sartorial nature.
But that might be enough about fashion. You all know that these inspired posts have only little to do with the actual clothing and much more to do with the fact that I love to put amazing people in the spotlight.
Throughout my nearly 5 years of blogging, I have gained so many wonderful friends in this community. Some I have had the chance to meet in person, others I hope to meet one day. Chrissy is way at the very top of my list. She and I have had so many powerful conversations throughout the years on topics that we are mutually passionate about from fashion (of course) to religion and philosophy (two of my favorite subjects ever) to simple acts of kindness, parenting, and more light hearted matters as well. She has so generously helped me with blogging issues and social media confusion and is a woman I feel comfortable approaching with just about any issue that I may need to discuss.
Chrissy is a beacon of light in a very dark world. She approaches everything she does with passion, kindness, love, and light. She goes above and beyond the task of a blogger by injecting so much of herself and her heart into everything that she puts out into the world. God knows, this crazy world needs her and people like her to stand steadfast in the midst of a raging storm as an example of the power of faith and love.
If you are not already acquainted with Chrissy, please do head her way and read some of her story. She is a Georgia native who recently moved to Florida with her husband and four boys. She shares so many adventures in the context of her life as the wife of a husband in the ministry, a homeschooling mom of two teenage boys and younger twin boys. She is passionate and caring and creative and just so much fun! You can find her on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, or her blog itself.
If ever you feel like you need a little extra prayer in your life, Chrissy is your go-to girl. She gives prayers the way I give hugs…freely and passionately and filled with unconditional love. She really is one of those people who is all goodness, a rare breed these days.
Do you know anyone like this? The truly good people? The ones who consistently restore your faith in humanity? Give them a shout out in the comments, if you please!
Keeping it on the edge,

love that you were inspired by another blogger to create a similar look! when i am fully up and running, blogging once a week, don’t be surprised if I copy the lovely wedding/bridal party/special occasion dress you wore once on your blog! i have literally the same one, same color, same style! also checked out Chrissy! love to meet new bloggers through other blogs!
xo Eva ps now I’m inspired to get into my bermudas i have held onto since early 2000’s! (or maybe i got rid of them–so not like me to do!)

Eva, thanks so much, my friend! You will adore Chrissy! She is kindness epitomized. I have been doing this “inspired by” series for a few years now and it is so much fun. It gets me out of my style ruts, too, because I try to do these at least 3 times a month. So I get all sorts of fun ideas for new outfits. I look forward to seeing your special dress! I am so excited for that. And yes, get out those Bermuda shorts if you still have them! I hope you have a fantastic day!

Well don’t you look cute?! I love how you recreated this look. The wedges are especially key- they make those legs a mile long! I would employ the same styling tactic. I love that the bermuda’s are red, too! Super fun.

Ashley, thanks so much! I agree. The Bermuda shorts definitely need a heeled shoe to work on me. I switched to flats because I was just hanging the house and they did not do it justice. I couldn’t resist the shorts because of the color!

Your interpretation of Chrissy’s outfit is the best. You made shorts look professional and put together. Love the bright red with the black and white stripes. And those darling wedges kicked things up a notch higher. Chrissy does feel like the sweetest, most sincere ball of energy. Would love to get to know both of you better.

Leslie, thank you so very much! I really wish I had an unlimited travel budget so I could travel all around and meet all of my fabulous blogger friends!

Well now, I will have to start following, Chrissy!
You nailed it! That is a super cute outfit. I think maybe there’s something about the blouse being more tailored (as opposed to a t-shirt, which I would typically pair with shorts). The blouse is really flattering, and a good match for the Bermudas – both in style and color. Lovely!

Shelbee, this brought tears to my eyes. I can’t begin to express how sweet and timely this is, for I’ve felt vocally stifled, strangled even, by the events transpiring. What is one voice, especially one that doesn’t go along with the popular narrative? You continue to school me on how to think of others in the blog realm. If there’s any kindness in me, I give credit to Jesus…any extra smiles today…I give credit to you. 😉 Sending you the biggest cyber hug my friend.

Oh my word, Chrissy, you just made me cry! Now my mascara is running and I have a zoom call in 20 minutes! I hear you though on feeling vocally strangled. There is so much overwhelming sadness in the world that I just find myself retreating deeper and deeper into myself and that is not always a good thing. I have to force myself to look outward to brighter things. And you, my friend, are a very bright shining star in a rather depressing world right now. I often look to you as my guiding example of how to remain kind and centered in times of turmoil. I admire you more than words can say. Sending you giant cyber hugs right back! Keep shining.
xoxo
