Inspired by Elegance and Mommyhood: Red Dots Romance & Link Up On the Edge #133

This is not a sponsored post.

It’s time for another outfit inspired by another fabulously stylish blogger friend. Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood has been one of my great blogging friends for so long now that I cannot even remember how or when we discovered each other. We have collaborated so many times, including multiple years of her 6 post Holiday Series, that I have lost count. We have gotten to know one another through email and Facetime chats and have supported each other through many of life’s ups and downs over the past few years. Not only is Ada a wonderful friend, but she is also a great style inspiration. So when I saw her Red Dots Romance outfit a few weeks ago, I pinned the look as one that I would copy for a blog post.

You can’t tell from this photo but Ada’s pants are velvet which kind of left me swooning. While I do not have velvet polka dot pants (perhaps I need to change that), I did have these Old Navy pixie pants in black and white polka dots. I also do not have an adorable red sweater with a bow closure on the back like Ada’s (you’ll have to visit her post to see photos of the back), I figured any red sweater would work to replicate her fun look.

I absolutely love Ada’s burgundy shoes, but I decided to go with my bright red sock booties from Payless. And I was going to carry a leopard clutch like she did, but with my addition of the plaid scarf and plaid newsboy cap, my black and red Buffalo plaid clutch (from the dollar bin at Target) just seemed to work better.

My black sueded moto jacket from Old Navy completed my look. I cannot take photos outside in this cold windy weather without a jacket! I actually wore a coat on top of moto jacket to get to and from work that day, too. I was so cold taking these photos and my poor husband was shivering and shaking so badly behind the camera that I am surprised the photos aren’t all blurry from the movement!

As we were shooting these photos in front of this broken down old building, it occurred to me that we were directly across the street from the back of the consignment shop. I don’t know why I didn’t notice it sooner, but once I spotted the silhouette on the window, I excitedly exclaimed (much to my husband’s dismay), “We need to take photos over there!” I think he may have grimaced at my suggestion or else his face was just frozen in some painfully cold expression, but he obliged my request nonetheless.

By the way, I get the funniest looks from drivers as they pass by when we are taking photos. Husband holding onto my little turquoise unicorn clad phone as he snaps away trying to capture my goofiest poses is quite the sight, I’m sure. After years of doing this, it is still quite uncomfortable doing photo shoots in public. But one must throw out all insecurities and have fun….laughing at yourself. Because if you can’t laugh at yourself, it sort of takes the humor out of all other things in life.

By the way, the day before I wore this photo, I wore it in the reverse. I have the same pants in red with white polka dots and I styled them with a black sweater and black booties. Unfortunately, I never took photographs of it. I had planned to restyle it and get some pictures to show some side by side photos, but it just never happened. Perhaps next time.

In the meantime, do head on over and check out Ada’s blog, Elegance and Mommyhood. She frequently features her beautiful daughter, Vivian (who just so happens to be my Ralphie’s “Michigan girlfriend”), in fun mommy and me posts, she shares her insightful and moving poetry and creative prose, and you will find lots of style inspiration and other uplifting and empowering lifestyle posts.
