Inspired by Elegance and Mommyhood: Red Dots Romance & Link Up On the Edge #133
It’s time for another outfit inspired by another fabulously stylish blogger friend. Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood has been one of my great blogging friends for so long now that I cannot even remember how or when we discovered each other. We have collaborated so many times, including multiple years of her 6 post Holiday Series, that I have lost count. We have gotten to know one another through email and Facetime chats and have supported each other through many of life’s ups and downs over the past few years. Not only is Ada a wonderful friend, but she is also a great style inspiration. So when I saw her Red Dots Romance outfit a few weeks ago, I pinned the look as one that I would copy for a blog post.
You can’t tell from this photo but Ada’s pants are velvet which kind of left me swooning. While I do not have velvet polka dot pants (perhaps I need to change that), I did have these Old Navy pixie pants in black and white polka dots. I also do not have an adorable red sweater with a bow closure on the back like Ada’s (you’ll have to visit her post to see photos of the back), I figured any red sweater would work to replicate her fun look.
I absolutely love Ada’s burgundy shoes, but I decided to go with my bright red sock booties from Payless. And I was going to carry a leopard clutch like she did, but with my addition of the plaid scarf and plaid newsboy cap, my black and red Buffalo plaid clutch (from the dollar bin at Target) just seemed to work better.
My black sueded moto jacket from Old Navy completed my look. I cannot take photos outside in this cold windy weather without a jacket! I actually wore a coat on top of moto jacket to get to and from work that day, too. I was so cold taking these photos and my poor husband was shivering and shaking so badly behind the camera that I am surprised the photos aren’t all blurry from the movement!
As we were shooting these photos in front of this broken down old building, it occurred to me that we were directly across the street from the back of the consignment shop. I don’t know why I didn’t notice it sooner, but once I spotted the silhouette on the window, I excitedly exclaimed (much to my husband’s dismay), “We need to take photos over there!” I think he may have grimaced at my suggestion or else his face was just frozen in some painfully cold expression, but he obliged my request nonetheless.
By the way, I get the funniest looks from drivers as they pass by when we are taking photos. Husband holding onto my little turquoise unicorn clad phone as he snaps away trying to capture my goofiest poses is quite the sight, I’m sure. After years of doing this, it is still quite uncomfortable doing photo shoots in public. But one must throw out all insecurities and have fun….laughing at yourself. Because if you can’t laugh at yourself, it sort of takes the humor out of all other things in life.
By the way, the day before I wore this photo, I wore it in the reverse. I have the same pants in red with white polka dots and I styled them with a black sweater and black booties. Unfortunately, I never took photographs of it. I had planned to restyle it and get some pictures to show some side by side photos, but it just never happened. Perhaps next time.
In the meantime, do head on over and check out Ada’s blog, Elegance and Mommyhood. She frequently features her beautiful daughter, Vivian (who just so happens to be my Ralphie’s “Michigan girlfriend”), in fun mommy and me posts, she shares her insightful and moving poetry and creative prose, and you will find lots of style inspiration and other uplifting and empowering lifestyle posts.
Tell me, who has been inspiring you lately? And are you as ready for Spring and some warmer weather fashions as I am?
And now your featured favorites from last week.
Robin of Hello, I’m 60ish shared her post, Tuesday Style Link Up with Soft Surroundings. I just adore this vibrant yellow on Robin. Such a ray of bright sunshine needed as we near the end of this very long winter.
And Becky of Pink Cheetah Vintage shared her post, Happy Valentine’s Day!! And I Actually Think Some People Need It. I love Becky’s cool vintage style and she always keeps it real. A woman after my own heart!

I so love those polka dot trousers Shelbee. You and your poor husbands hands must have been so cold taking this photo shoot – I remember this time last year I could hardly speak to my hubby where my face was so frozen. This year it feels like Spring already and it is so much easier! xx
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Maria! Our teeth definitely get chattering when we are doing photo shoots in this cold! It is starting to warm up a tiny bit, but my weather app is predicting more frigid cold weather over the next week or two. Spring takes a really long time to get to us!

You are inspirational yourself, Shelbee!! I still am wearing shorts and tights this winter, and it’s all because of you!!
As for this outfit…it’s absolutely perfect. I love all the prints together….you are print mixing like a pro. Another reason you’re so inspirational.
Have a fabulous weekend, and thanks for being you!!

Jodie, you are so sweet! Thank you so much. I love that you are wearing tights with shorts! It has been too cold here for me get away with that look the past few months. It has been mostly jeans and tons of layers for this girl. But maybe heading into Spring, I can style some more shorts and tights outfits! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

I am in love with your red boots! Such a beauty. Perhaps I am biased saying that as red is my favorite color but truly, it really puts the outfit together. This is a nice recreation of Ada’s outfit. You did it very well and may I add, you look great! I get funny looks too when taking photos. I am learning to ignore the noise but I have a long road ahead of me regarding that! That’s why I suppose I wear sunglasses most of the time! No one can see my discomfort! Lol Happy Friday Shelbee. I hope things are going well on your end especially after what had happened several days ago. Wishing you and your family a fabulous weekend!

Maureen, thank you so much! Red boots really are fabulous, aren’t they? Such a statement! It’s funny that no matter how many times we do photo shoots in public places, I always get so uncomfortable when people look at me. Yet I am plastering photos of myself all over the internet! We human beings are such strange paradoxical creatures, aren’t we? We are adjusting to normal again. The kids have been off from school all week for winter break and are currently visiting their gramma which is always good for them. All the spoiling, you know!

Mireille
Love the outfit! And kudos for the hubby for such great pics and putting up with the cold too? Are your pictures usually phone pics or a dlsr? They always look like great quality pictures so I was wondering 😊
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you, Mireille! All of my photos are taken just with my iPhone. And the only editing I really do is some minor adjustments in the color and brightness and cropping if needed. I wish I had a better camera and knew how to edit more, but it is what it is! I work with what I’ve got. But I really appreciate the compliment!

Susan Marinelli
Great outfit Shelbee!
Every girl should have red boots and a blanket scarf.
Yesterday, I wore my burgundy boots and burgundy blanket scarf, with some destroyed jeans, and I was strutting my stuff. Now that I look at your pictures, I should have worn my newsboy cap with the ensemble, but live and learn. I will replicate this look too, so thanks for the inspiration, Styling Goddess!
I hope your hubby’s face has recovered after being frozen into a grimace. lol.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Susan, thank you as always! I bet you looked marvelous in your burgundy boots and blanket scarf! Definitely add that newsboy cap the next time! I think a hat elevates any outfit to the next level of magnificent!

Ada
Hi dear Shelbee. I read this post first thing on Thursday morning and it is almost a week later and I am not just replying. I have been failing at blogging and commenting lately. Such is life. Needless to say this post made my day and I thank you so much. I am so glad I inspired you. But I might even like your outfit more. You put your own twist to it for sure with sexier red booties and all the plaid. Love that newsboy cap too. You look beyond fabulous! And thank you again so very much.
P.S. Make sure to add your latest to my Tuesday linkup, below. Thanks. Hugs and Kisses.

Thank you so much, Ada! I am so sorry that you have not been feeling well. I also got sick last week and completely lost my voice. Of course, I kept pushing through it and as a result I am still feeling quite worn down and tired. I am so ready for Spring! And I have been slacking on all things in life lately it seems! Eventually I will get back on track and so will you. We just need some sunshine and warmer weather.
