Inspired by Curated by Jennifer: Linen Dress and Flowerless Fields
We have just had a few weeks of unseasonably warm weather here in the North Country and so I took full advantage of the opportunity to recreate this cool outfit that Jennifer of Curated by Jennifer shared last month. In her post, Linen Dress and Flower Fields, she wore a gorgeous white linen sundress with a black moto jacket, black boots, and a black hat. I just love the stark contrast between black and white as well as the pairing of a feminine white dress with edgy black accessories.
While I was styling my own version of Jennifer’s outfit, I realized that out of the hundreds of pairs of shoes and boots that I own, I do not have black leather block heel ankle boots like Jennifer. Who doesn’t own black leather block heeled ankle boots?! I mean, I have literally every other style of black boots you can imagine except the most versatile wardrobe staple ever.
So I went with my black suede block heeled ankle boots instead which in turn influenced my jacket choice. Rather than a black leather moto jacket like Jennifer, I stuck with my black suede one to keep my textures consistent. Not that you can’t mix leather and suede, I guess I just wasn’t feeling it this day.
My hat is a bit different and my fields have no flowers but I stayed pretty true to Jennifer’s gorgeous styling. But enough about the outfit. Let me tell you a bit more about Jennifer…just in case you aren’t already familiar with her.
Jennifer lives in Michigan with her fur babies and works as a freelance wardrobe stylist. She often shares her photo spreads from Grand Rapids Magazine which showcase her creativity and her talent so beautifully. But it is her classic French-inspired style and her passion for sustainable fashion and beauty brands that keep me coming back to her blog week after week for all sorts of inspiration.
As I have been trying to develop shopping and other lifestyle habits that better reflect my own personal commitment to living in an environmentally conscious way, I find myself often turning to Jennifer’s blog for guidance.
She is my “Green Guru” when it comes to sustainable brands and companies. As much as I strive to be greener, I do not have the patience to do the in depth research to learn the things that I need to know. But fortunately for me, I don’t have to do the research because Jennifer already did it! And she has been kind enough to share all of her findings with her readers.
I am also very drawn to Jennifer’s Francophile ways! I suppose I never considered myself a Francophile until I have seen a few of my favorite bloggers refer to themselves as such. And now I think I probably am quite the same. While my overall style is not influenced by the classic minimalism that is woven into French fashion, there are quite a few things of French origin that I really enjoy from berets to the men. (Well, actually just one man and he is probably more Canadian than French anyway. But on the very rare occasion that he speaks to me in French, Je m’évanouis.)
Oh but I digress…this post is not about sexy French men, it’s about a beautiful Francophile in Michigan with great style, a heart of a gold, and a very strong desire to help others by sharing her own struggles and discoveries. And one of her biggest struggles that she has shared extensively on her blog is one that I can relate to completely.
Having struggled with candida issues and changing her entire diet and much of her lifestyle to find relief from that annoying little fungus, Jennifer also shares lots of healthy recipes and other dietary suggestions to help reduce the body’s production of candida. And my body, like Jennifer’s, really likes to produce excess amounts of candida. I have struggled my whole life with this same issue and have felt comfortable sharing about it only because Jennifer speaks so openly about it.
That is one of the most beautiful things about blogging…the women and men who talk about the uncomfortable things in order to help others deal with uncomfortable things. If you are brave enough to openly discuss yeast infections in an open public forum, then you are exactly the kind of person whom I want to be friends with. And I am blessed to count Jennifer in my circle of blogging buddies.
She is brave and kind, sweet and dedicated, committed to her passions and her work, intelligent and stylish, bold and independent, and just an overall fascinating and wonderful human being. If you don’t already follow her, you can find Jennifer on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin’. You can also subscribe to Curated by Jennifer so you can be sure never to miss a helpful or inspiring post. Also, be sure to visit Jennifer every Wednesday for her link party!
With the holidays upon us, I am looking forward to discovering new environmentally friendly sustainable brands for gift giving ideas. I am certain Jennifer will be sharing so many great things on her blog in the coming months. Be sure to follow along so you don’t miss any of the goodness!
