Inspired by A Pocketful of Polka Dots: Here, Kitty, Kitty
I honestly cannot remember when I first discovered Jennie’s blog, A Pocketful of Polka Dots, but I have been inspired by her style and her ability to shift genres in a similar way to my own chameleon like sartorial choices for at least the past 4 years. Jennie has this talent for transforming from modern business wear to vintage 50’s to edgy pop culture to easy bohemian styles in a snap. And she always looks so perfectly comfortable, so perfectly in her own fashion lane, with the perfect twist of Jennie on every single outfit that she wears.
Aside from her brilliant vestiary talents, Jennie is also a very accomplished photographer on the other side of the camera, having recently launched her own photography business, A Pocketful of Photographs. Jennie’s ultimate focus in photographing others is to create beautiful images that reflect life and love, pictures that can be cherished for a lifetime. She offers all sorts of options and packages in family, maternity, engagement, birthday, prom, pet, head shot, and senior photo sessions. Do visit her on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to see the touching images she has produced and book your sessions if you live in the Carolina region.
I have been very fortunate to get to know Jennie over the past few years of my blogging journey. We have both been members of the Fab 40’s, a group of fashion bloggers from all around the globe who share our personal style to encourage women over 40 to have fun with fashion. Jennie recently celebrated that milestone birthday that took her out of the Fab 40’s and into the Phenomenal 50’s so we had to bid her adieu in December when we all featured polka dot looks in her honor. Jennie was one of the original members of this group that was started before I even began blogging. I was privileged to be invited to join the group as a permanent member back in September of 2018 and it has been such a wonderful ride.
This past summer, I met up with Jennie and Jess of Elegantly Dressed and Stylish for the most wonderful lunch in Asheville, North Carolina. You can read all about it here. I must say that they are both even more magnificent in person than what you see in blogland. We talked as if we have known each other forever. But I suppose that is the way it often goes when you are part of such a special community like this blogging community. Friendships develop and grow with so much ease that a real life meet up simply feels like old girlfriends getting together without missing a beat. Speaking of Asheville, I will be there again the week after Valentine’s Day!
In any event, so many of Jennie’s delicious outfit confections have inspired me in so many ways. Whenever a style prompt or challenge has been issued, she always responds in spades, taking a new approach, adding a unique twist, and delivering the most appealing concoctions that my inner fashionista so totally appreciates. Being a fellow shoe addict, lover of mixed patterns, and feline fanatic, I could not resist the temptation to recreate Jennie’s combination of black and white plaid, leopard print, and cute kitty motif.
I could not find my plaid cigarette pants that are similar to Jennie’s so I opted for a black and white checked pencil skirt. It seemed an appropriate choice since Jennie rocks a pencil skirt like no other. And since I live in a much colder and snowier place than Jennie, leopard booties took the place of her adorable leopard pumps. But that is the beauty of drawing inspiration from someone else, we find ways to make it our own. My favorite leopard coat with a burgundy beret and tights served to keep me warm during this frosty photoshoot. But even with my changes, I do believe the inspiration is quite clear.
If you don’t already follow Jennie, you can find her on Bloglovin’, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter.
Have you ever been inspired to copy the look of someone else? Have you recreated those outfits with your very own twist? If you have, be sure to capture some photographs and submit them to be featured for February’s Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. To celebrate the third anniversary of this series, the theme will be copy cat looks! (See what I did there?)

I have a link up on Thursdays called Creative Compulsions. Since I’ve jumped into fashion blogging and see how much creativity is involved (I have so much to learn) I am inviting fashion bloggers to link up their outfits.

Jennie
Aww, thank you so much for the sweet words, friend. I am humbled. I seriously love how you took this look and made it your own. The addition of burgundy was brilliant and that beret is just perfect! Now you are giving me new ideas for my kitty sweater – lol!
How long will you be down when you visit? I would love to see you again if we can manage it. 🙂
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Jennie, thanks so much for your lovely comment! As soon as I saw your kitty sweater, I knew I had to copy your look with my kitty sweater! I am spending the weekend of Valentine’s Day in Cullowhee (I am not sure exactly where that is in relation to Asheville, I know it’s about an hour away). Then I will be in Asheville from Monday, February 17 until the morning of Friday, February 21. I reached out to Jess and she is not really feeling well. I offered to drive to her for a lunch date if she feels up for it. And I am hoping to get together with Becky this time now that we straightened out the issue of the wrong phone number! Haha. But yes, let me know your availability that week. I know it’s difficult because I won’t be there on the weekend at all. But I could maybe drive to you for your lunch break or something if that would work.

Rocking this look ma’am, I love you in a beret and colored tights. And faux fur is always fabulous. I love blogger meets too – I met up with another UK blogger this week which was fun.

Karren Haller
Hey Shelbee, it would be fun to actually meet other bloggers. One day they will have an event here in Vegas I can go to. Of course, your kitty shirt caught my eye but the beret and jacket complete the outfit.
Thank you for sharing on #omhgff last week ad this week I am pleased to feature your post.
I do hope you will swing by and share your latest updates.
Have an awesome weekend!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Karren, thank you so much! I am so honored to be featured. You are so kind! Meeting other bloggers is so much fun and I can’t believe there hasn’t been a blogger meet up in the Vegas area yet. Michelle of My Bijou Life lives in Vegas and while I have not met her in person, we have spoken on the telephone and she is one of the sweetest women ever! You two should try to connect and maybe organize a Vegas blogger meet up! How fun that would be!
