Inspired by A Labour of Life: Old Navy Checks
There are not too many blogger friends in my circle who can relate to the weather struggle when it comes to styling cute outfits and staying warm in heaping piles of snow. But Linda of A Labour of Life, my Canadian friend, who lives just 2 hours directly north of me in Ottawa, gets it. She really does understand the insanity that is the winter weather up in this part of the world.
But not only does she relate to my weather struggles, she also possesses very similar sartorial tastes as mine. I know that we shop at many of the same places including Shoe Dazzle, Old Navy, and Target. In fact, I know that Linda used to travel to my hometown of Watertown, New York, to shop at some of the exact same places where I shop. Speaking of that, Linda, when are we going to have a blogger meet up, shopping/lunch date?!
I have been following Linda’s blog for as long as I have been blogging…so going on 5 years now. And she always delivers the most infectious joy in her outfit photos, playing in the snow, being silly in the sun, staying true and genuine to her very own playful and enthusiastic nature. She also shares some pretty fabulous ideas when it comes to home decor, recipes and cocktails, crafting, and other DIY projects. She pretty much covers everything that one would expect from a lifestyle blog.
While I am not much of a DIY’er or a home decorator, I keep coming back week after week to see what Linda is styling. And she never disappoints. Actually, I am surprised at myself that I have not copied one of her looks before this because we so often end up purchasing the same exact wardrobe pieces. Case in point is this adorable little black and white Buffalo plaid dress from Old Navy. Ironically, when Linda shared her styling of this dress last week, she gave me a big ole shout out because she went shopping at Old Navy online in search of the blackwatch plaid slip dress that I had styled for last month’s Your Own Twist.
I had a good hearty chuckle when Linda posted on her Instagram stories that I had compelled her to buy the blackwatch plaid slip dress among a few other dresses that she found in the Old Navy online sales. One of those dresses was this black and white Buffalo plaid shirtdress which I had already purchased myself in the red and black as well as the black and white. I had yet to wear the black and white one when I saw Linda’s post styling hers with over the knee boots, leopard gloves, and a black moto jacket in the snow. Of course, in the snow. We are always in the snow around here. So inspired by Linda, I have finally styled my plaid dress. I did have to add some extra cold weather accessories because it was really freaking cold and windy the day we shot these photos. But I stayed true to Linda’s styling as well.
If you don’t already follow Linda and A Labour of Life, you can find her on Bloglovin’, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, and YouTube.
In the meantime, tell me what have you been wearing lately? This time of year seems to send many of us into a style rut and we can all use a little extra inspiration!
Keeping it on the edge,

I love this series! So much fun to see how different women style a similar outfit! It would be a idea to make it a group series!

Thanks so much, Nancy! I love that idea of creating a group series like this…let’s think on that and see what we come up with!

I love it when you copy someone’s look. I need to create a place on my phone with screenshots of the outfits I want to copy because when I see them, I get inspired but half the time I forget about them! Today’s outfit came after realizing I hadn’t worn my camo pants in probably a month. Then I decided on a top I haven’t worn at all this year and probably once or twice each year since I bought it. Just bought 4 skirts on Shein so I have decided I am going to implement a skirt day on Wednesday. I need a little variety in my outfits: so many jeans and pants days.

Mireille, thank you so much! I have a Pinterest board called ‘Outfits to Copy’ where I pin all the outfits that I want to recreate. It makes it easy to find them later when I need inspiration! I am so glad that you found 4 skirts and I can’t wait to see how you style them!

That is amazing. Love your look lol. I am feeling a need to head to Waterdown and Target.. but not while the snow continues to fall. Let’s pray for an early spring and a meet up
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Linda, thanks so much for inspiring me! And I totally understand waiting until spring to make the drive to Watertown. But when you do decide to visit, let me know so I can clear my schedule for a little blogger meet up!

Love the mixed prints!! It’s been weird how mild this winter has been when it comes to choosing outfits over here!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you, Tamar! It definitely has been a much milder winter than normal for us as well. I am not complaining too much about that because we get too darn much snow every year. It has been a nice break!

Nicole of High Latitude Style
It’s always interesting how two (or more) fashion blogger style the same piece. Despite you were inspired by Linda’s look, it has your presonal note. Nice look. Thanks for sharing your great look with my readers at the Top of the World Style linkup party.

Thanks so much, Nicole! I do love taking someone else’s outfit as inspiration and adding my own twist!

Michelle
You both look totally adorable in the back & white buffalo plaid! Black & white is so dramatic. Even though I am a fiend for color, I must admit, the stark contrast of black and white always catches my eye. Well done, ladies!

Thanks so much, Michelle! I love color, too, but there is something great about a classic black and white combination as well. Plus it lends itself to adding splashes of any color that tickles your fancy!
