Inspired by A Blonde’s Moment: Green Summer Dress
I know everyone is getting in the mood for all the Fall stuff like sweaters and jeans, boots and jackets, football and pumpkin spice things. However, we do still have a few more weeks of summer remaining and where I live if you don’t embrace these final warm days, you’re just kind of silly. Because once the Autumn Equinox arrives here, the temperatures will drop quickly and before you know it, I will be buried in snow once again. For a very long and cold six to eight months.
So before I delve deep into Fall fashion (which is my absolute favorite, by the way), I have this green summer dress to share. It’s a few years old from Torrid and I don’t wear it often. I like it in theory because of the light breezy chiffon and the bright shade of kelly green, but the few times I have worn it, I just don’t feel all that great in it. So it has been hanging in my closet, tucked between dozens of other dresses that don’t often see the light of day.
But then I saw Rachel of A Blonde’s Moment share the prettiest green chiffon dress and it reminded me of this one hiding in my closet. If you don’t already know Rachel, her blog focuses on fashion, beauty, and food. She shares her favorite styling tips as well as recipes and in her weekly series, Wednesday Wishes, you can find some her favorite shopping finds. I adore Rachel’s style with her mix of classic prints and bright colors. I am always sure to find inspiration on her blog and I’m sure you will, too.
And inspiration is exactly what I found in Rachel’s Summer Dress Under $30. So I decided to give my green chiffon dress a try once again. I don’t know if it was just my raging PMS hormones the day I wore it, but I still just feel like it’s not that flattering on me. However, I do still love the shade of green.
I layered a short denim jacket over my dress mostly because the dress is even less flattering on me without a jacket. It has skinnier straps and the cut of the top accentuates those ugly back fat rolls that no one needs to see. I know I am usually all about body positivity, but if there is one part of my body that I really take issue with, it is the back fat that rolls over the top of my bra. Ugh. I need to work on that.
We headed down to the river to take these photos and I had to chuckle at the obscenities spray painted under the bridge. And while I chuckled, I also got a little bit annoyed, too. I don’t quite understand the purpose of painting curse words and obscenities. I mean, I’m all for making art for the sake of art, but I’m not quite certain that painting “fuck” across a cement wall really constitutes art. I wonder what exactly is the statement this “artist” was trying to make.
While I’m ranting on that subject (I am a bit ornery today, aren’t I?), I also take issue with all the obscenities painted on the rock walls at our local park. To be clear, I have no issue with profanity. It’s just words…arbitrary letters strung together and assigned a meaning that someone decided was bad and offensive. But why they need to be scribbled in public parks alongside poor drawings depicting sexual activities is beyond me. Then when my 8 year old asks me what these drawings mean, I am sort of at a loss. I don’t like to candy coat things and I try my best to be open and honest with my kids about the truths of the world, but I am not ready to explain these things yet! So I don’t want park graffiti created by small minds forcing me down that path before I’m ready.
On a lighter, more cheerful note, today is back to school for my kiddos. It is my favorite day of the year! Time to get back to regular schedules and 7 hours a day of quiet time to focus on my multiple writing endeavors. Back to my weekly coffee dates with the fabulous ladies of SmartChicks who inspire me to be the very best I can be, push me to stay focused on my goals, and they make me laugh. They always make me laugh. And we all know that laughter is so very good for the soul.
So tell me, are you still wearing your Summer wardrobe or have you fully transitioned to Fall clothing? Who inspires you lately? And what are your feelings about obscene and profane graffiti?
