I Scream, You Scream, It’s Oogie’s Ice Cream & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #74
With Memorial Day in the United States being the unofficial start of summer, there’s no better time than now to share a post about ice cream! After all, who doesn’t love ice cream? And who doesn’t get all the nostalgic feelings of childhood rush in upon them when you hear the ice cream truck rolling down the street? For me and my sister, the nostalgia runs deep. When we were kids, my father had ice cream trucks in the summer to earn some extra cash. My older sister, Lori, who was 16 at the time, was sent out on her own truck back then and would sometimes take me along to help. I was just 10, but I remember it fondly. We had some crazy laughs running our little ice cream truck route!
Flash forward a couple decades to about 10 years ago…my father is long gone, but my sister had a dream. A dream about ice cream. And those old trucks that she used to drive. So she started saving and searching…until she found her perfect vintage ice cream truck. Through blood, sweat, frozen fingers, and a whole lot of hard work, she made her dream come true. And she named it after my father…Oogie, a local legend, everyone loved and adored him. And now everyone loves and adores Oogie’s Ice Cream!
So when I went to visit my sister for a few days last week, I put on an Oogie’s Ice Cream tee shirt and headed off to an event with her. Just like in the old days! And we had just as many as laughs as we did back then.
And then we launched into a full blown photo session and we laughed even harder! Since my sis is a bit insanely camera shy, you will only catch a glimpse or two of her reflection in my sunglasses! You will have to look closely to see her.
And since my sister is my biggest supporter and the one who pushed me to start this blog in the first place nearly 3 years ago, it’s about time I gave her some blog space! So here I am shamelessly plugging my sister’s small business…you know how I love to support small local women-owned businesses! Give her a follow on her social media accounts (you can find those below). And if you are local to the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, area, check her out online to book Oogie’s Ice Cream for your next event this Summer!
I got all the special Oogie’s treatment for my photo shoot, too. My name on the chalkboard. And free ice cream, duh! While this is not a sponsored post and all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own, I suppose I was compensated with all the ice cream I could eat for two straight days!
And I stole my sister’s earrings for the photos, too. She was a little grossed out by my doing that…but even more grossed out when my response was, “We grew inside the same womb, why is wearing your earrings so weird?”
Now your favorite posts from last week.
Sarah of Foxy’s Domestic Side shared her post, 7 Dresses to Wear This Summer. She featured this adorable gray and white striped maxi dress plus 6 other really cute options in summer dresses. If dresses are your summer go-to’s, definitely check out Sarah’s post!
And Grace of Color and Grace shared her post, Life After Loss/The New Normal. I have been following Grace’s journey as she finds her new normal since her husband passed away. And she never ceases to amaze me with her strength and courage. She is an inspiration to so many. If you are feeling alone while you experience the grief of a lost loved one, I encourage you to follow Grace’s Life After Loss Series.

Such cute earrings and I love that you have childhood memories of ice cream trucks being in your family. I’ve always wondered if it was a good source of income, etc. I guess it is a nice way to make some side cash!

Anna at Muttonstyle
That’s such a great story Shelbee. Shame your dad isn’t around to see the revival. What a fab truck. Does it play a jingle? They do in the UK like the rat catcher calling the children for ice cream.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Anna, thanks so much! I love that…”like the rat catcher calling the children for ice cream”! She does have a music box on the truck that plays a jingle. But it gets very annoying after it loops 150 times!

That ice cream truck is quite the perfect prop, Shelbee!!! Imagine you in some leather with it/in it!!!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Sheela! That’s funny that you mention leather…there is a tiny little Harley Davidson motorcycle jacket hanging in the window of the ice cream truck. It was given to my oldest son when he was just a baby. My sister takes the truck to the local hill climb every year and she said so many people try to buy that little leather jacket from her, but she won’t sell it…because leather and ice cream trucks totally go together! Next photo shoot collaboration with Shelbee on the Edge and Oogie’s Ice Cream will have leather, for sure!

Yay for 1) getting to spend time with your sister, 2) having a blast with your sister and 3) for such a fabulous treat to your dad. That’s really awesome that your sister named her ice cream truck after your guys’ dad and also has caricature of him on the outside. This is really sweet and so nice. I love those fun earrings! So fun! Now you got me thinking of ice cream! Mmmm…. it is only supposed to be 95 today! Yuck! 😭 I hope you are having a great start to your week and happy Tuesday!

Ok, first of all, I love the fact that your sister owns an ice-cream truck named after your father. Secondly, I love that she Good Humored you (see what I did there?!) with this shoot. Also, I ate probably 1200 calories of Cold Stone Creamery yesterday and it was totally worth it. Yay ice cream!

Oh, ice cream trucks. They just scream summer, and they bring back so many memories! We used to wait for the ice cream truck to drive up the dirt road to our community pool, and we’d all run out with quarters to buy treats. Gosh, I feel old! What a beautiful way to honor your dad’s memory!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Melissa, thank you for sharing your childhood memory of ice cream trucks! I could picture it perfectly the way you described it! We have a ice cream truck that comes down our street and it always make me smile to see my kids get super excited about it! Have a fantastic day and enjoy some ice cream today! It is supposed be 90 degrees today in the North Country!
