How To Style a Kimono for Winter (Part 2)

While the snow often makes a beautiful backdrop for blog photos, when it starts to melt away we are left with gray slimy sludge which isn’t all that pretty. To make matters worse, it really is not conducive for preserving the quality of my shoes. I have to be honest here…I do wear these outfits in real life. I love clothing and fashion and the way it makes me feel. However, the one part of my outfits that may be a bit of a lie is my shoes. I style them with my outfit, take the photos, then sit at home with my shoes off…perching them ever so daintily in the corner beside me where I can admire their beauty and pizazz. Once photos are done, if I have to leave the house, I generally slip on my old beat up rubber snow boots. They go with nothing. They are ugly. But they are practical, warm, and water resistant.  And you will probably never see them here. But I digress from the purpose of this post…which is to share with you how I style that classic warm weather piece, a kimono, in the winter.

If you missed my post yesterday, I shared Part 1 of How to Style a Kimono for Winter. I featured this gorgeous tribal printed long kimono from Rosegal with a graphic tee. For today’s outfit, I was channeling my inner Stevie Nicks…so I chose a black sequined tank top, flared black denim, and white booties.

This kimono features a half sleeve so I definitely needed some extra layers to make it work in colder temperatures. Because it is roomy, I was able to add a long black duster cardigan underneath it. You can’t see it in the photos, but the cardigan also has a little sparkle which played nicely with the shimmers of the sequined tank.

Since I created a bit of a rock and roll feeling with this combination, I added this cute burgundy bag with a guitar style strap. I recently scored this gorgeous purse on clearance at Torrid Salmon Run Mall for around $12, but it is currently sold out online.

And when you are feeling a little Stevie Nicks vibe, what better place to shoot photos than in front of a guitar store?

Have you been experimenting with warm weather wardrobe items during this bitter cold winter? How are you maintaining your personal style through the dreary gray days?

While the short winter days and bitter cold snow may have a tendency to ruin your shoes or your mood, you shouldn’t let it also ruin your personal sense of style. In the words of the actor Shawn Ashmore, “Style is a reflection of your attitude and your personality.” Let’s not allow the weather to dim that, my friends. Stay stylish in your own bright fabulous way!
