How to Get Rid of Razor Bumps: A Guide to Smoother Skin
Tired of Razor Bumps? This Might Be the Solution for You.
Razor bumps can be a real buzzkill when you’re aiming for smooth, flawless skin. Not to mention the pure horror from having an itch or a stabbing pain when your jeans rub your razor bumps the wrong way. I understand the frustration and I am sharing a way you can bid farewell to those pesky bumps. I consulted with a team of licensed estheticians and wax specialists who are dedicated to skincare and hair removal techniques and they shared their knowledge and expertise with me on preventing and eliminating razor bumps effectively, ensuring that your skin remains silky smooth and free from bumps.
What Are Razor Bumps?
Razor bumps, also known as pseudofolliculitis barbae, are small, irritated bumps that appear on the skin after shaving. They occur when cut hairs grow back into the skin instead of out of the follicle, which can lead to inflammation, redness, and discomfort. Certain skin types are more prone to razor bumps and have the potential to become infected causing even more discomfort.
Shaving vs. Waxing – A Comprehensive Comparison
To achieve smooth skin without the hassle of razor bumps from shaving, many people rely on hair removal methods like stripless hard waxing. Below is a comparison of the two different means of hair removal.
Factors | Shaving | Stripless Hard Waxing |
Duration Hair-Free | Short term (1-3 days) | Longer lasting (2-6 weeks) |
Razor Bumps | Common | Does not occur |
Hair Regrowth | Coarse, stubby | Finer, softer, more sparse |
Skin Sensitivity | Irritating to skin | Gentle on the skin |
Convenience | Quick | Less frequent, 30-min or less |
Precision | Limited | High precision for all areas |
Why Waxing With Stripless Hard Wax Might Be a Great Option for You
While both methods have their merits, waxing with stripless hard wax has some extra benefits for achieving smooth skin without razor bumps.
- Longer Lasting Results: Unlike shaving which only provides smooth skin for a few days, waxing with stripless hard wax offers longer lasting results which give you weeks of bump-free skin.
- Minimal Razor Bumps: Stripless hard wax removes the hair from the root, preventing ingrown hairs from occurring and thereby greatly reducing the risk of razor bumps compared to shaving.
- Finer Hair Regrowth: With consistent waxing, hair regrowth becomes finer and softer, making it less likely to cause irritation when it grows back.
- Gentle on the Skin: Stripless hard wax adheres only to the hair, not the skin, reducing irritation and making it suitable for sensitive skin types.
- High Precision: Licensed estheticians and wax specialists are skilled in applying stripless hard wax with precision, ensuring a smooth, well-groomed result.

For the sake of being completely honest (which I always am), I do not wax. I did it once a few decades ago but I just can’t stand the hair growth between waxing sessions. I have been a daily shaver for most of my life because I cannot tolerate even one day’s worth of itchy stubbles. As a result, I don’t really have much hair growth or get razor bumps anymore.
Do you wax or shave or laser or let it grow?

I don’t know if I’m weird or just lucky, but my underarm hair quit growing several years ago. Every once in a while, I give them a swipe with my razor. I have very little hair on my legs, either. And, I don’t get razor bumps, either. Thank goodness!

I don’t think you’re weird, Marsha, maybe just blessed with little hair that requires removal! My right armpit grows significantly more hair than the left one, so maybe I am the weird one! LOL

It’s funny how we all have different preferences even when it comes to something so boring as hair removal! Hahaha
