A Beautiful Paradox: Graffiti & Lace with Rosegal
There is just something about paradox that draws me in. It creates an aesthetic appeal in the sartorial realm. It forms the basis of irony in the lingual world. Two of my favorite areas combined in my blog space…fashion and words.
*This is a sponsored post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
*Lace extender: Mesh Floral Mini Plus Size Lace Extender Skirt c/o Rosegal.
I have long been fascinated by the combination of feminine lace details combined with the edgier feel of distressed denim. And there is something about white lace that radiates purity and innocence. But juxtapose it with the toughness implied by ripped jeans and place it against a shabby urban background detailed with bad graffiti and neglected paint and I think you have a beautiful ambiguity of opposing details.
Jeans: Torrid Girlfriend Jeans.
The ultimate contrast of opposites has always been the combination of black and white. It is the timeless parallel of all saturated color placed against no color at all. Then add in a dash of the brightest red and it is the most striking color combination to the human eye. The appeal, however, is in the details. Polka dots, lace, torn denim, floral embroidery. It is all of my favorite things combined into one single photoshoot.
Shirt: c/o Style We. Other options available here and here.
And the greatest paradox of all happened this weekend. This girl, right here, the one who loves to use words for every purpose. The girl who can talk endlessly on any multitude of subjects. For hours and hours and hours on end. Until my voice goes hoarse. This girl has lost her voice…completely. There is nothing but a mere, very strained whisper that will come forth with the greatest of effort. And it is driving me quite crazy.
Jacket: Old Navy. Alternative option here.
Although my actual voice has been silenced for the time being, I still have many things to say. So I guess this week I will sit in my muteness and ponder my next topic for discussion. And I will let the words trickle through my fingers until I can speak again.
Boots: Charlotte Russe Rose Embroidered Ankle Booties.
What are some of your favorite paradoxes? Words, clothing, actions…it could be a paradox of any sort. I would love to hear.
Quiet on the edge,
Shelbee

That is such a coincedance, I also lost my voice….and it hurts like hell. Haha, I hope we both will have ours back real soon because it’s tiring!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Oh my gosh, Nancy! Isn’t it exhausting…just trying to get sound to come out to communicate a little bit with my family! Mine does not hurt so much now, but I was up all night coughing like hell! I hope you feel better soon, my friend!

Definitely the clothing dichotomy has been my fave lately. Although it’s still kinda hard because we get into ruts, don’t you think?
But what I’ve been trying to do is put together an outfit, and then think of how to change it, to make it different!!
Love this look, Shelbee!!
XOXO

Jodie, thanks so much for stopping by! I do love the contradictions between certain style genres and when you put them together you get magical results. I definitely get in ruts just like anyone else, but I also love the challenge of having one piece that I am obligated to style and then figuring out how to make it work! I actually had a really hard time with this white lace extender. I have it in black and it was easy peasy to style. But the white one, for some reason, was really tripping me up. This was about the tenth try with this piece. But once I got it, I loved the result. As is usually the case, isn’t it? The more the difficult the challenge, the greater the outcome! And then I styled it again with a different top which will be appearing soon on the blog. Have a fabulous week, my friend!

I just love the polka dots on that top. It makes it look so light and feminine! You probably hate losing your voice as much as I do, and it has happened many times in the past. The worst part is it coming slowly back and sounding deep, deep, like a man or a frog!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Julie! This voice loss thing is definitely less than a desirable situation! It makes parenting little ones very difficult, too! I am now on day 4 of no sound…but I am getting periodic bouts of deep froggy voice…I guess that’s a sign it is coming back. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a fabulous week!

Lace and ripped denim…one of my all time favorites! I lost my voice Friday too (yes, I’m still sick after 2 weeks…grrr). That’s a problem when you have a room full of kids to teach…lol! Fortunately I have three of the best aids (and friends) ever in my room so they were my voice for the day. xo

Ah, Debbie, I knew you would like this outfit of mine! After all, you were my inspiration for getting these adorable lace extenders. I am on day 4 of no voice and it is seriously the most annoying thing! I don’t know how you can handle a classroom of kids when I can’t even handle my two boys with no voice. They are walking all over me because no sound comes out when I try to discipline! There is a lot of clapping hands and snapping fingers from me. Ha. Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you feel better soon!

Hey, Shelbee I hope you feel better and you get your voice back! As for your outfit, I really love those ankle boots. They are so cute and I love the roses on them. I’m also a huge fan of that top. The overall outfit is just a perfect mix of bad ass and feminine chic.

Gigi, thanks so much for your kind words! I am on day 4 of no voice and it is driving me crazy at this point! And I think this may be one of my favorite outfits ever. Although I struggled a bit with styling this white lace extender. Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous week!
