Styling Outside of the Box with Gamiss & Link Up On the Edge #64

Have you ever spotted an article of clothing with an obnoxious almost ugly print and thought, “I HAVE to have that”? This is what happened to me when I saw this dress from Gamiss.

*This is a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Generally, anything with this color green catches my eye. But this strange scarf-like print in green, yellow, cream, and black sort of left me wondering: Is this dress fabulous or is it horrendous? Staying true to my own positive attitude, I decided that the dress was fabulous and that I must have it.

Then the dress arrived. I tried it on with the matching tassel belt. And it was actually quite horrendous and unflattering. I stood staring in the mirror feeling defeated. I had a challenge on my hands and I decided to rise to the challenge. I would make this dress fabulous if it was the last thing I did in my closet that day!

Sometimes, you have to think outside of the box to get an article of clothing to work for you. There are no rules that say you must wear a dress exactly as it is shown on the model or mannequin.  By changing up the accessories a little bit, you can create a silhouette that is more suited to your figure.  So I went to work trying different belts. Until I settled on my new Chico’s Reversible Obi Belt.  Much better.  Not only did this belt create the illusion that I actually have a waist, it also pulled the hemline up a few inches making the dress a much more flattering length.

Then I took the matching tassel belt and used it as the strap on an old Coach crossbody bag. Over the knee boots were in order which suited the retro vibe of the dress. I added a black trench vest for an extra layer as the fabric of the dress is quite thin. A felt hat completed the look…perfect for a girl on the go!

Do you always wear your items of clothing exactly the way they are shown by the retailer? Or can you think outside the box and change it up so it works better for you?

I will be back next week with my normal thought-provoking topics!  There are lots of things brewing in this brain of mine, but it has been a crazy few weeks and I just have not had the chance to sit down uninterrupted and focus on writing.  Tomorrow, I am heading to Pennsylvania for NEPA BlogCon this weekend.
