Gallery of Style | Diamond Dust Shoes by Andy Warhol

This is my first style gallery for 2025 and I am absolutely in love with every outfit that was inspired by Andy Warhol’s Diamond Dust Shoes.

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, and Marsha of Marsha in the Middle. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag SalazarShelbee, and Marsha on Instagram or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

The submissions are in no particular order. If you have submitted a photo and I did not include it, please let me know and I will make the necessary edits. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle. You can read more details about each outfit by clicking on the individual blog links or the images in this post.

Sally of Within a World of My Own

Sally created two outfits which were both primarily inspired by the teal and black screen print. She did add some other bright colors that appear in some of the other prints. Her first outfit is a nod to the yellow and green shoe colors with her teal floral skirt representing the abstract rendering of the shoe configuration. Her second outfit added in yellow and pink to represent some of the other shoe colors. She combined a scarf and sweater with stripes in contrasting directions to reflect the “spilled out at various angles” aspect of the shoes’ placement on the floor. I adore these color combinations as well as Sally’s creative rendering of two art inspired outfits!

Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey

Salazar created a color-blocked outfit built around a black top with subtle sparkles. Her gorgeous velvet blazer and skirt are also nods to the sparkle and shine of the diamond dust sprinkled on the artwork. She completed her look with super fun star-print socks, shiny red patent statement shoes, and a sparkly brooch for some extra shine!

Marsha of Marsha in the Middle

Although Marsha regrets not having any sparkly shoes for this challenge and her first attempt with a sequin bomber jacket, well, bombed, she decided instead to combine as many colors from the collection of prints as she could into one outfit. Her Stockholm dress from Gudrun Sjoden was the absolute perfect garment to meet that goal. What a beautifully charming and energetically joyful dress. And it turns out that Marsha’s boots do have a bit of sparkle in them after all!

Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge (That’s Me!)

I wore teal and black and silver and leopard and sparkles and velvet and diamonds to represent the artwork. I do think Andy Warhol would approve!

That was really fun. Great job, as always, ladies!

I hope you all have enjoyed this round of Style Imitating Art. If you would like to try one of these style challenges, be sure to stop back on Monday, February 17, 2025, for Salazar’s choice of the next art inspiration.

Keeping it on the edge,

Shelbee
