Floral Bomber to Brighten a Dreary Day

I saw this black floral bomber jacket on the clearance rack at the Fort Drum Exchange (PX) months ago. (For those unfamiliar with the Exchange, it is sort of like a department store located on military bases. They also have online shopping. You do need to have military identification in order to shop there. And it is tax free. Everything is tax free. They carry a lot of high name brands as well as more budget friendly brands, and the prices are a bit cheaper than regular retail. And when they have clearance, they really have clearance! I have seen Michael Kors sweaters on clearance for less than $20. I recently saw an adorable pair of black floral shorts which would have been great with tights and sweater on sale for $1.96! Unfortunately, they were not my size. There are definitely benefits to the military life. This is one of them!)

Anyway, back to my black floral bomber jacket. The first time I saw it, I looked at it, picked it up, and put it back. I don’t usually wear really bold prints that close to my face. For some reason, I feel very awkward in it. But then I was shopping again, it was still on the clearance rack, I picked it up, looked at it, and put it back. This happened about 4 times on 4 different trips to the PX. When it was still on the clearance rack the fifth time I was browsing the clearance items, I finally decided to try it on. And I loved it! So it became mine.

In my head, I imagined pairing the jacket with a striped shirt. But all of my stripes were too bold and contrasted too much with the busy floral pattern. So I opted for a soft blue twist front top which highlighted the blue tones in the jacket. I wanted to keep it casual, so boyfriend jeans were the obvious choice. But a little height on my shoes was necessary, so I chose my black wedge ankle booties (with some black lace socks peaking at the ankle). A bold silver necklace finished the look.

I felt all bright and flowery even on a cold autumn day. I am already planning my next outfit with this jacket (I’m thinking a black pencil skirt…).

Are you planning on styling florals in the Fall and Winter months? How will you wear them? I would love to hear your ideas!
