Festival Season is Coming & Link Up On the Edge #184
Y’all know that last summer was My Bluegrass Summer and I had the best time ever being introduced into the Bluegrass community. I made so many great friends and discovered so much amazing music that I cannot wait for this year’s festival season to kick off.
While I will only to be able to attend a few due to budget and time constraints, there are so many great music festivals coming this summer that are within driving distance for this road tripping girl. As I was scoping around the internet to develop a basic plan for my festival travels this season, I figured why not share some of it with you. Below you will find a list of upcoming musical festivals in the Eastern part of the United States that have caught my interest. The majority of them of are Bluegrass festivals but some are more jam band oriented. Perhaps they will pique your interest as well and who knows…maybe I will see some of you there!
April 16-18, 2020: Albino Skunkfest Music Festival in Greer, South Carolina. Their lineup includes The Nude Party, Dylan LeBlanc, Town Mountain, Front Country, Sugaray Rayford, and Big Daddy Love.
April 16-19, 2020: Cabin Fever Reliever at Terrapin Hill Music Festivals in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Some of my favorite Bluegrass bands will be playing at this one: Fireside Collective, The Infamous Stringdusters, The Lil Smokies, to name a few.
April 23-26, 2020: MerleFest in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. I am gasping at this year’s lineup and I so wish I could go, but this one is not going to happen for me. The lineup includes Willie Nelson & family, Alison Kraus, John Prine, Greensky Bluegrass, Melissa Ethridge, Mavis Staples, Billy Strings, Jim Lauderdale, and Fireside Collective.
April 24-25, 2020: Charm City Bluegrass Festival in Baltimore, Maryland. This festival has The Infamous Stringdusters, Yonder Mountain String Band, The Lil Smokies, and The Dirty Grass Players included in the lineup.
May 21-24, 2020: DelFest in Cumberland, Maryland. This lineup includes The Del McCoury Band, The Travelin’ McCourys, Billy Strings, The Infamous Stringdusters, Molly Tuttle, The Lil Smokies, Fireside Collective, and The Jakobs Ferry Stragglers.
June 11-14, 2020: Wind Gap Bluegrass Festival in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania. This lineup includes Danny Paisley & Southern Grass, Serene Green, and many more.
June 18-20, 2020: Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival in Cross Forks, Pennsylvania. Some of my favorite bands performing at this festival include Fireside Collective, The Jakobs Ferry Stragglers, and The Hillbilly Gypsies.
July 2-5, 2020: The Peach Music Festival in Scranton, Pennsylvania. This festival has some amazing bands in the lineup this year like The String Cheese Incident, Umphrey’s McGee, Moe, Billy Strings, Thumpasaurus, Yak Attack, and Serene Green.
July 9-12, 2020: Busy Bird Bluegrass Festival in Berkshire, New York. Included in this lineup are Bug Tussle, Serene Green, The Jakobs Ferry Stragglers, and more.
July 10-12, 2020: Green River Music Festival in Greenfield, Massachusetts. With Billy Strings in the lineup, it is sure to be filled with great music.
July 15-19, 2020: Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival in Oak Hill, New York. There is an amazing lineup for this festival including Yonder Mountain String Band, The Infamous Stringdusters, Fireside Collective, and Serene Green.
July 23-26, 2020: Brantling Bluegrass Festival in Sodus, New York. The Kevin Prater Band and Mountain Highway among others complete this lineup.
August 14-16, 2020: Hickory Fest in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. If you are considering attending any of these festivals, I highly recommend this one! It is such a wonderful family atmosphere. The lineup includes lots of my faves like Verlon Thompson, Shawn Camp, Fireside Collective, The Jakobs Ferry Stragglers, Kenny Cox & The Kapo Kings, and Abby Owens. You can read about my experience there last year here.

Kellyann of This Blonde’s Shopping Bag caught your attention with her Friday Favorites #104. And she definitely caught my attention with this fabulous red boho dress that I feel like I need for the upcoming music festival season. Kellyann always has so many great things to share. Go check it out, there’s lots more in her post!
My Favorite Fashion Post
Terri of Meadowtree Style shared the most beautiful kimono outfit in rich shades of burgundies and black in her post, What I’m Wearing for Valentine’s Day (Something New + Thrifted + Made by Yours Truly). I have a very similar kimono that I just wore during my road trip but I did not take proper photographs. I love the way Terri styled hers over an elegant all black outfit allowing the gorgeous kimono to really stand out as the statement piece.
My Favorite Non-Fashion Post
Mireille of Chez Mireille had me at crepes in her post, Mom’s French Crepes. Um, yes please. There isn’t really much else that needs to be said here. Except maybe…how freaking adorable and contagious is Mireille’s smile as she’s about to enjoy that crepe?!

Such a sweet surprise to see my mug features here , lol! I do love that red dress, it would be great to wear to a festival!
Have a great weekend Shelbee!

Thanks so much, Kellyann! I am sure there are lots of muscic festivals down your way! You should definitely try to go to one even if you just go for the day. You don’t need to camp for the weekend. They really are so much fun!

Thanks so much for sharing all these festivals! My hubby and I enjoy Bluegrass music. For xmas I got him and I tickets to see the Steeldrivers. They are incredible and it’s coming up soon. 🙂 Love your cool festival look! Thanks for the link up Shelbee!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Kathrine, thanks so much for checking out my list! I really like the Steeldrivers, too! I did not see them on any of the festivals that are within driving distance for me. I hope you have a great time at their show and I look forward to reading about it (if you plan on sharing it on your blog)!

It would be fun to make it a a bluegrass festival. We are lucky that our little town hosts some music nights the summer, all free. We made to our friends’ band last year. It was quite funny because we didn’t know they were playing and we say their name on the banner: it was the only concert we made it to. My 9 year old loved it. Fun to see my post featured: eating a crepe in the south of France does make one smile big! Thanks!

Mireille, thanks so much for stopping by! I love that picture of you and the crepe! So adorable. I love when towns host free live music in the summer. My town has been talking about hosting a music in the park series this coming summer and I sure hope they do. How fun that your friend’s band was playing at the one you attended. I am sure there are lots of Bluegrass festivals down your way, too. They are so much fun if you ever get the chance to attend one.

I love live music but haven’t gone to a festival in years. The older I get, the less I like crowds. You are going to have a fun summer! Love this look with the fishnets and destructed jeans! Have a wonderful weekend!
Jill – Doused in Pink
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Jill! I cannot tolerate really large crowds either, but I am finding the Bluegrass festivals in particular are smaller and very welcoming and I don’t get that overwhelming anxiety that I would at a huge festival. I am hoping for a fabulous summer! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

Wow! Lots of wonderful festivals are coming up!
I love going to arts and crafts festivals here in Georgia in the spring.
I have never gone to a music festival so I look forward to reading about your adventures!

Robin, thank you so much! Arts and crafts festivals are super fun, too! Except I spend too much money when I go to those!

Thank you, Tamar! We are having a blizzard right now and the kids have a second snow day in a row…so a 4 day weekend is what we’ve got! I hope you have a wonderful weekend as well.

The festivals sound like so much fun and loving your look today! Oh, and sooooo much snow!! We escaped the last winter storm we were supposed to be getting!
Thanks for hosting the linkup!

Thanks so much, Ellie! I took those photos a few weeks ago and right now we are in a crazy blizzard. There is about 2 1/2 feet of snow already since last night and it is still falling really fast. We might see 4 feet by the time it stops. Making me even more ready for warm weather and music festivals!

Just love your smile, Shelbee! While my hubby and I don’t really do festivals, I am looking forward to warmer temps and maybe getting away and doing some camping. Have a great weekend, beautiful! – Amy

Amy, you are too kind. Thanks so much! Camping is a great escape as well to recenter ourselves. But if I am going to camp, I want the music, too! Ha. That is part of the beauty of festivals for me.

Sounds like fun. Sign me up. LOL. I will stick to the the County Fair’s around here as they always have good acts. Plus the Stern Grove Music Festival (it is free) in San Francisco. We also have the Hardly Strickly at the beginning of October.
Looking very wonderful. Hope that you have a wonderful weekend. Even with the snow.

Thanks, Patrick! I wish I could make it out to California for some of the music festivals there! If I ever do, I’m looking you up and dragging you with me!

Shelbee, looks like you have no shortage of festivals to choose from! Hope you can make it to as many as you want! Thank you for hosting the linkup.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Jean! I hope I can make at least a few of the festivals. If I were independently wealthy, I would just spend the season traveling the country! But alas, that is not my life. But I will enjoy each bit that I do get to attend.

Nicole of High Latitude Style
The fishnets under the distressed pants look so cool. When it’s cold tights or printed leggings are also cool. Nice look and thanks for hosting the party.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Nicole! The fish net is actually attached to the jeans but I guess I could layer patterned tights underneath as well for a really cool combination of patterns and textures.

Looks like a fun summer ahead Shelbee with all those festivals! These days I prefer the more languid food or vintage clothes festivals 🙂 Enjoy the weekend!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Gail! I won’t be attending all of those…maybe just 2 or 3. Vintage clothes festivals sound like a ton of fun! I will have to look out for those, too.

I know you are going to have fun at whatever music festival you go to! I wish I was at Woodstock! So many amazing artists performed there! I love music – many types, but have never been to a multi- day festival! It does sound fun.
Love the peeking fishnets in the knee of your jeans and that is a great flannel, pretty color! I love your glasses and have been a bit glasses obsessed lately as I got 2 new pair. 🙂
Have a wonderful weekend!

Jess, thanks so much! Oh to be at Woodstock! That would have been amazing. I recently read an interesting article about Woodstock that they couldn’t believe how clean the site is in the aftermath. Multi day festivals are so much fun! But you have to be prepared for the late night shenanigans. Haha. I wish I could add more glasses to my collection, but mine are so expensive because I have a really difficult prescription.

Blue Grass is a genre that I also appreciate. I won’t be going to any festivals but it’s the Midwest and there’s Bluegrass everywhere!
And a big thank you for appreciating my kimono styling. I am thinking of ways of making it not just a one hit wonder. There must be a way for it to work with jeans for a scaled down causal look…..surely.
Take Care, XOXO
Terri
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Terri! Oh if I lived in the Midwest, I would be in Bluegrass heaven! I have worn my similar kimono over dresses and with shorts as well. I find kimonos to be very versatile pieces. I look forward to seeing what other ways you style yours.

Ooh, you make me want to go to the East Coast! How fun will all those festivals be?!! Enjoy every minute. Your outfit is perfect for that trip–you look adorable! I loved your featured photos, too. So fun to see what everyone is wearing/doing.
Happy weekend.
xx Darlene
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Darlene, thank you so much! I think there are festivals all over the country that you should be able to find some near you. I wish I could attend more than just a few, but time and money become an issue quickly. But I guess that makes me appreciate them even more when I do get to attend a festival or two. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Maureen
So many festivals to go to, so little time! 🙂 If only we lived closer to you, how fun would it be to attend one. We actually don’t have a ton of festivals near us but we do go to wineries close to us that may have jazz playing or some sort of music. Btw, I love the fishnets peeking through your distressed jeans. What a unique look! Wishing you a fabulous weekend Shelbee.
Maureen | http://www.littlemisscasual.com
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Maureen! I wish I could attend one every weekend! But alas, money becomes an issue because weekend passes to these festivals can become quite expensive. Winery tours are fun, too! Although I haven’t done one of those in years. I might be due! It would be fun to meet up with blogger friends at a festival though or a wine tour. I hope you have a lovely weekend as well, my friend.

I admire your dedication to the music you love. I don’t feel like I have the time, money or energy!

It’s so fun there are lots of festivals near enough to you! My hubby and I used to love going to all the festivals in Milwaukee over the summer when we lived there (although they were cultural and not musical mostly-still fun though)! Festivals are awesome!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Laura, thanks so much! I do enjoy any kind of festival. But the non-music ones I usually end up just visiting for a few hours. The music festivals turn into all weekend affairs which is a different kind of fun, I think! They are like big ole grown up sleepover parties!

Your plaid short is lovely and I like the print mixing with the boots! 🙂 Hope you do manage to make it to a lot of festivals over summer! 🙂
Hope that you are having a great weekend 🙂 We spent the day with my mum yesterday shopping the sales for the leap day (and getting some great toy bargains we’ve put away for the kids birthdays!)

Thanks so much, Mica! We have been snowed in since Thursday with about 3 feet of snow so it has been a relaxing weekend at home! I hope your weekend has been great so far.

We have 2 music festivals on our spring agenda. The first is the Henderson Bluesfest in April. No driving for us. We live in Henderson. It’s a day long event. Robert Cray is the headliner. And the next is Woodflock in May. This occurs over Memorial Day weekend. The organizer is musician, Antsy McClain. His band performs, along with several other indie bands. We have been introduced to so many fine musicians since we’ve been attending.
Love the fishnets in those jeans!
