Feeling Fresh & Fruity | June Stylish Monday Link Up
Summer is coming and what better theme than Feeling Fresh and Fruity to welcome in this season. When the ladies of Stylish Monday decided to feature outfits with a fruity theme, I knew that I wanted to style this bright orange blazer that I picked up on Torrid clearance back in February. At the time the theme was chosen, the only fruit prints I had in my wardrobe were on a few pairs of socks. In fact, I am wearing some lemon print ankle socks as I type this post. However, ankle socks were not going to cut it for this bold and colorful theme.
I was tossing around ideas to create a color blocked outfit incorporating some other bright fruity colors like red, blue, purple, green, and yellow. And then I went out shopping. Again. I was back in Torrid because I had some rewards dollars to spend before they expired and I actually wasn’t having much luck finding anything that I liked. I had a few things at the checkout counter when we realized that I needed one more item on a BOGO sale and so I made one last round through the store when I spotted this fruity swim suit top hanging all by itself at the back of the swim suit rack, the last of its kind in the store. As soon as I saw it, I knew the print was perfect but I also knew the size would be wrong. But it wasn’t! So I guess it was meant to be mine. My very first true fruit print in my wardrobe.
Torrid sells their swim wear as separates and there was no matching bottom in my size. Fortunately, I had a plain black high waisted swim bottom that works just fine with the fruity top.
I am a big fan of bra style tops and other lingerie inspired clothing, so I knew that I wanted to style this swim top with an actual outfit. But I also wanted to share the swim suit look itself so there are three different outfit combinations in this post featuring my new fruity swim suit top.
Outfit Combination #1: White Cropped Denim, Orange Blazer, and White Fedora
I wanted to make an outfit that was sophisticated enough to wear out for a lunch date but comfortable enough for running errands or just hanging out with friends. A combination of black, white, and bright orange seemed like a perfect summer palette to accomplish this goal. I paired wide legged cropped white denim with my new braided sandals (I shared the white pair with the same jeans in Friday’s post) and a white fedora featuring a black ribbon band. My brightly colored Big Earrings were the obvious choice for jewelry especially since they are made from tagua nuts which do fall into the scientific classification of fruits. Of course, my bright orange blazer and fruity printed swim top are the focal points of this outfit. And how stinking cute is this colorful straw bag? I recently found this in Burlington Coat Factory for a steal (under $15) and I had to have it.
Outfit Combination #2: The Swim Suit, Kimono, and Straw Cloche Hat
Since I was wearing the swim top, I figured I would wear the swim bottom and share the entire swim suit look. Kimonos are my favorite swim suit toppers and I really like when they have a tie at the waist for this purpose. I found this cool orangish kimono when I found the swim suit top. I had no intention of pairing them together until I spotted how wonderfully the kimono matched the fruity print. I switched out my white fedora for a tan straw cloche hat because I preferred the subtle shade of tan over the stark white fedora with the muted color of the kimono.
Outfit Combination #3: White Cropped Denim, Kimono, and Straw Cloche Hat
After I stripped down to my swim suit for these photos, I figured when I got dressed again I would try the kimono in place of the blazer to create an easy casual summer style suitable for just about any summer activity. With the simple switch of my top layering piece and hat, I was able to create an enitrely different look.
Which combination do you like best? Would you ever wear a swim suit as a top?
Now let’s see how my stylish friends have interpreted this fruity theme.

Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood
“Fruity Floral Flounce!!! That’s what I am calling this outfit. Between the florals and paisley design of my ruffled skirt and those bright orange sandals I got the citrus fruity vibes and all the Summery florals going!”
Ada
Amy of Amy’s Creative Pursuits
“Love fruit prints but you don’t want to look like a piece of fruit? Here’s how to incorporate the fun fruit print trend into a neutral outfit.”
Amy
Andy of Pearls and Pantsuits
“I love the retro feel of this fruit print tiered shirt-dress. I was looking for a simple tiered dress on Amazon, when this one caught my eye. I couldn’t resist its charm! I styled it with my red gingham print sandals that have been on repeat this summer. The fruit print and gingham combo makes me happy!”
Andy
Emma of Style Splash
“I bought this Fabienne Chapot striped cherry print dress on eBay. I’m a big fan of the Dutch brand and their quirky prints. A shirt dress is summer staple for me as they’re cool and easy to wear.”
Emma
Julie of Fashion Trends and Friends
“Nothing says summer more than fruity prints and bold fun colors especially after long cold Illinois winters! I can’t resist my kitschy summer fun prints!”
Julie
Lucy of Lucy Bertoldi
“This month’s collaboration got me digging into my wardrobe for something fresh and delish to style up. Found this fun lime maxi decorated with cherries-how sweet! Lime green is already a favourite with me-especially for summer-and with the added fun red-cherry print, well that’s enough to get me smiling. 😊 Fresh, quench-thirsting look for this hot Montreal summer-I’m ready!”

Michele of @seechele_styles
“Feeling fruity in my Target dress with lemon and limes and oranges on it.”
Michele
Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style
“I am feeling like a basket of fruit or a box full of fruit sweets, lol, in this outfit! Oranges, strawberries and raspberries! Love that color combination! I have ombre nails at the moment with red and orange. You can take a look at last Tuesday’s post for that!”
Nancy
Nicole of High Latitude Style
“In interior Alaska, summer temperatures remain pleasant in the drought season except when it rains. The record is 100F in Ft. Yukon, but we already think 85F is too hot. In the monsoon season, it feels unpleasant due to the high humidity and temperatures in the 50F or so. Thus, in early summer, it’s shorts and tank tops with flip flops, in late summer, it’s rain gear and layering. Since the Sun is in the sky 24/7, sun protective clothes are my go-to.”
Nicole
Nina of Sharing a Journey
“We are definitely out and about these days. My bright colors mirror my optimism for the sunny summer days ahead.”
Nina
Suzanne of Ask Suzanne Bell
“I love the vibrant pattern and color of this bold wrap skirt; it feels so optimistic, fresh, and cheerful. Bold prints can be a bit intimidating to style, so I say keep it simple, with neutral pieces; like this black ruffle top, raffia bag, and hat. From there, allow the print piece, to be the star of the show!”

Featured Favorite (from last month’s Ruffle theme)
Ellie of Ellibelle’s Corner shared her post, Fashion Over Forty: Flutter Sleeves in Coral, featuring this darling little ruffle sleeved top. Sometimes just a hint of ruffles is so much better than full on ruffle glory. I love this color on Ellie as well as the subtle bit of extra interest with the fun sleeve detail.
What do you think of this fresh and fruity color explosion this month? I am loving all of these vibrant warm weather outfits on my stylish friends.

Thanks so much, Amy! This was fun to try the swim top as a top but also to just showcase it as a swim suit. This theme was so fun. I am loving all the bright colors and bold patterns!

Gosh, I love your outfits so much! I really wanted to buy a crop top but I always stopped myself because I thought it was not an age appropriate for me. Now, I look at your photos and think “Why not? Who said so?”. Shelbee, you really inspired me to try one. I love how you styled it with an orange jacket. Probably, it is my favorite look!

Thank you so, so much, Tatiana! I am so glad that I could inspire you. That really just made my day! I was fearful of cropped tops a few years back for the same exact reason. But ironically, I feel so much more body confident as I near 50 years of age than I did when I was in my 20’s (and 60 pounds lighter) so I figured if I was ever going to embrace a bare midriff, I might as well do it now while my confidence is soaring. And you are exactly right! Who the heck did put an age limit on clothing or personal style? If you feel good wearing something, then wear it with a great big smile because no one ever looked bad when smiling! I look forward to seeing how you style a cropped top. I know it will be brilliant!

Aw, thanks so much, Lucy! I really like this swim top, too. Now I need to actually go swimming! Haha. Not my favorite activity. I’ll sit by the pool but I’d rather not go in it. Have a great week, my friend.

Sheila (of Ephemera)
Looking fab in your three outfits, Shelbee! I love the strapiness of the bathing suit top (I’m a sucker for straps, buckles, zippers, etc.), and I love how you’ve styled it so differently in these outfits. This would make a fantastic travel capsule!
Thanks so much for the link-party!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Sheila! I really enjoy creating multiple outfits focused around one piece but I get so lazy about it sometimes! I need to do it more often though. Variety and versatility really are the best things in a wardrobe…and in life! I hope your week is off to a great start, my friend.

How do you do it? You just seem to always find the best, cutest, edgiest (etc) items that are exactly what you need lol? I am in awe! I’m also in awe of your look today. Everything about both looks are just gorgeous. I think my favourite is the kimono with the trousers – it’s a little bit more boho and I do like to see you in boho style (as well as every other style under the sun lol)
Huge hugs

Hehe, Suzy, thank you so much! I think I always end up with the perfect thing for style prompts because I have like a billion things in my closet room to choose from! My closet is my play room for real and I love creating in there! Style prompts only add a little extra interest to my playtime goals. Haha.

What a cute bikini top that doubles as a bralette too. Love the fun print. I like that you came up with three looks and incorporated 2 different shades of orange on both and two different hats. The third look is my favorite hands down!

Thanks so much, Ada! This was such a fun theme this month. I had a lot of fun styling multiple looks with my new swim top.

Do I have to pick just one? I love how you styled each look, but if I have to pick, I love that long orange duster – the boho vibe gets me everytime. And, no, I have not worn a swimsuit as a top, but I guess why not? THanks for all of the fun inspiration, and I love your new website layout BTW, super easy to read! Well done!

Suzanne, thank you so very much, my friend! Boho is definitely my favorite summertime vibe! I will probably wear this swim top as an actual top more than I will as a swim suit. I don’t go swimming very often, preferring instead to sit by the pool and watch the children swim! I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

That is cool! I love that you took a swim top and made it a part of the outfit. Love the sexy criss cross straps.
I love fruity fashions, I didnt know you all were posting- it was a coincidence about my fruit top.
The coverup/dress is pretty and a great coral color. Love the hat too! I am waiting on a straw hat I ordered for our trip.
