Fashion Icon Halloween Costumes & Your Own Twist Link Up
Hey Jersey Girl, Texan Heart and Shelbee on the Edge readers! Monica and I decided to do a fun link up once a month (since we are both super crazy busy so why not add more projects to our calendars)! Every month we will host the Your Own Twist Link Up with the goal of inspiring some of our fashionista friends out there. The idea behind this collaboration is to take one common piece or theme and style it our own way…Monica and I have both taken a lot of fashion inspiration from one another over the past few years even though we have totally different styles. It is always fun to see how we can interpret similar items in unique ways. This first edition of Your Own Twist is going to be a little different from what we have planned going forward. For October, we chose a Halloween theme with the prompt being that we had to style a costume with things that we already had in our closets. We did not discuss what costumes we would be sharing and in the end we were both thinking fashion icons!
Monica went for a classic Audrey Hepburn look and she is rocking it!
I pulled out all of my best furry things and bold jewelry and layer upon layer of fashion stuffs to try to look like the fabulous Iris Apfel.
I did have to buy the glasses as I did not have anything nearly as iconic as Ms. Apfel’s spectacles. But I only paid $1 for mine. All I really needed to perfectly complete my look was a walking cane, but I just couldn’t seem to find one in time.
My husband and I seriously laughed so hard with me running around town dressed like this looking for a place to take photos. So ridiculous, but so much fun!
How did we do?! What costume ideas do you have in mind for this Halloween?
Want to join us in our upcoming themes for future Your Own Twist Link Ups? Just follow the prompts below. But remember, you can link up any fashion posts that you’d like. They do not need to fit the prompts. We hope you join us for some good old fashioned fashion fun!
Keeping it on the edge,

Thank you so much, Kathrine! I think dressing as a fashion icon is probably the easiest costume to create from our own closets! I mean, we are all fashion icons in our own way!

I immediately thought, “Iris!!!” as soon as I saw your photo! Such an inspiring style icon. You both did an amazing job with your theme. I enjoyed being able to link up some of my past Halloween looks, too. 😉 I will have to add your new linkup to my regular rotation.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Jennie! I love that my fashionista friends know right away that I was going for Iris! People who are not into fashion probably just think I look like a crazy person! Hahaha. You always have such great Halloween costumes. I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with this year!

Such a fun linkup! I love both of your costumes! I immediately thought of Iris when I saw yours so you are spot on!

Thanks so much, Laura! I felt like it could have used a few tweaks to be spot on, so I appreciate that compliment!

Thanks so much, Cheryl! I don’t where the idea even came from except that I want to be like Iris when I am in my 90’s! It was fun to style this outfit.

I LOVE these! And you are the first Iris Apfel that I’ve seen – such a fantastic and original idea! Love it, you both killed it and costume party perfection!

Thank you, Betsy! I feel like I could have done a little better…like if I’d only had a cane and could have found round glasses! Ha. But I am happy with the result, for sure. It’s the faux fur, all the faux fur, that screams Iris.

I am trying to figure out what I can be without going out my way of buying a costume. I love Audrey (but what fashion blogger doesn’t)? I especially love your outfit, Shelbee. It’s so crazy and wacky but still somehow stylish.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Gigi! The trick is to definitely shop your closet for Halloween and not spend money on something you will wear for only one occasion. Pinterest has a bunch of ideas for DIY Halloween costumes that you can create right out of your closet.

The minute I saw this, I thought “I’d have to be Iris!” Well done, both of you! Such fun!

Thanks so much, Liz! I strive to be like Iris when I am in my 90’s! Serious life goals!

Kim
Yes, for sure, not enough on your plates–ha ha! You two look so crazy great, keep up the good work!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Kim, thanks so much! My plate is so overwhelmingly full, it is ridiculous! It is making me tired, but very focused…so there is a benefit to all the crazy.

Ada
How did I miss the launch of this amazing linkup?! Like for real? I love that the two of you both channeled Fashion Icons. Very different but very amazing fashion icons. One is totally timeless, elegant, monochromatic, classic, minimalist and tres chic while the other is bold, sassy, colorful, edgy, kooky and fun.
Also, I will join you next Thursday for the High Boots. I have the perfect outfit for it. I was thinking, if you want, we can join linkups, too?! What do you say?!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Well, I don’t know how you missed it, Ada! Silly girl! But I’m glad you found it. This was Monica’s baby that she put into action and we are having so much fun with it. Definitely join us next week with some high boot stylings! And how do we join link ups? Do we share two separate link codes on one post? Will that be confusing? I am confused! Ha. I will just email you instead!
