Fallin’ for Tie Dye | September Stylish Monday Link Up
Sometime during the summer, I am unsure when since I have been living in a time warp for the past 6 months, I was invited by my blogging friends to join their monthly style series, Stylish Monday. I was more than honored to be asked to join this group of super stylish women from all around the world. And how could I resist a fun tie dye theme to bid adieu to the weirdest summer ever.
You may already be familiar with this Stylish Monday series, but since it is new on my blog, let me tell you a bit about the group. Stylish Monday is a monthly series published in collaboration with a group of international fashion and lifestyle bloggers. It is another opportunity to be creative with our personal style as we join together each month with a style prompt or theme.
We fashion bloggers love style prompts and themes! They keep us on our toes and they keep our creativity blooming. They force us to think outside the box and try new things. They push us out of our comfort zones and really great things tend to happen when you step out of your comfort zone. Thank you, beautiful ladies of Stylish Monday, for inviting me and welcoming me to your group with so much love and kindness! I am honored.
So let’s get down to the business of tie dye. This classic hippie print has hit the trend scene hard this summer. Everywhere you look, there is tie dye. From tee shirts to dresses to shorts and kimonos. I have seen the cutest tie dye jeans and loungewear, leggings and hoodies. I have even spotted some amazing tie dye shoes at various online retailers…but can never find my size! I did recently grab this adorable tie dye face cover just to brighten up the misery of wearing a mask.
But the star of my tie dye style is the black and white fringed kimono. I scored this pretty number from a Torrid sale a few years ago. I definitely have not given this beauty enough time in the spotlight. It is one of my favorite kimonos in my ever growing collection and will remain in rotation for many years to come.
The black and white tie dye make it easy to style with bright colors or neutrals. And tie dye will always be a classic style even when it fades out of popular trend. I stuck with a very easy combination of a little black cami dress and wedge sandals just to let the kimono stand out as the statement piece. It was a super cute and comfortable outfit and I received many compliments on it at my therapist’s office.
Of course, I had to add a coordinating face cover to go to my counseling appointment. And as usual, I could not breathe in my bedazzled mask. I think I really do need to stick with those ugly medical masks to prevent my claustrophobic panic attacks! Oh well, sometimes practicality and comfort win out over my vanity.
But who said style is vanity? Personal style has nothing to do with vanity. It has to do with feeling great about yourself, presenting yourself to the world in a way that showcases your personality, and having fun along the way.
Let’s check out the rest of the Stylish Monday ladies and see how they have incorporated tie dye into their super fun personal style expressions. They all look so fabulous! Be sure to scroll to the end and join the link party!
Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style
“I had to search real deep for something tie dye and I found this Primark summer dress that I don’t even own anymore. I guess tie dye is the same as kimonos over here in the Netherlands. Just not that popular. Don’t know why not if you see all my lovely Stylish Monday friends in their beautiful items!”
Nancy
Andy of Pearls and Pantsuits
“I am loving the tie-dye trend for fall! My orange and blue tie-dye top is actually a dress – I’ve knotted it and styled it with jeans just for fun. Check out my blog post to see how I styled it as a dress, along with more cute tie-dye pieces, and how I’ve styled them for the fall season. I love to play with my clothes, especially when it’s something as versatile as this!”
Andy
Julie of Fashion Trends and Friends
“I have and always will be a huge fan of the tie dye trend! This might be my third blog post on the trend. My tie dye maxi dress (new from Amazon) is super easy to style for every season. I’ve paired it with my Half Tee for better coverage so that it can be worn to work. Additionally, I can add a denim jacket for some warmth in the fall. The tie dye dress can easily be worn over a long sleeve tee and some booties in the winter! Did I mention this maxi has pockets and is super soft?! If all over tie dye isn’t your thing, think about just a touch of tie dye in a top or more subtle colors like bleach tie dye.”
Julie
Emma of Style Splash
“I bought this skirt years ago, and while I love it, I find it difficult to style so have only worn it a few times. This theme gave me the impetus to dig it out and give it another chance. I’ve paired it with a sweater with a cute pearl-embellished collar that I bought in a charity shop.”
Emma
Nicole of High Latitude Style
“Traditionally, tie-dye is associated with the heat of summer and outdoor festivals. However, tie-dyed scarves can also look great in fall and winter as my look demonstrates.”
Nicole
Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood
“Not all tie-dye is made the same. Those bright super neon tie dyes are not for me. But give me a cozy, light as air white tee dipped in baby blue and baby pink and we are talking!! It looks like a gorgeous skyline. Fall temperatures have definitely arrived in Michigan so I wore mine with a Faux Leather Black Moto Jacket. Perfect yin+yang between the softness of the girly tee and the rocker edginess of the jacket. Both pieces are by Hollister and they are current!”

The mesh detail of your kimono is everything! I’m just imagining the possibilities of what you could wear it with. So. Much. Fun! It totally suits your style and sense of joy. LOVE IT!
This was such a great theme, wasn’t it? We are just tickled that you’ve joined our Stylish Monday sisterhood and I’m looking forward to future collaborations!

Andy, thank you so much! For everything! For inviting me and welcoming me in and for all the work you have put into this group. This was a super fun theme! I have lots of tie dye in my wardrobe but would love to add more. This kimono is so much fun but the fringes get caught on stuff all the time so I don’t wear it often! I sort of save it for special things. I am very excited to get to know all of you ladies better (well, the ones whom I don’t know well yet). That is the best part of blogging and blogging collaborations…building this wonderful community of inspiring women!

Looking so fun and funky. Tie-Dye has never been out of fashion in my neck of the woods.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Patrick! I am sure you see lots of it in San Francisco! That is the birthplace of modern tie dye!

What a fun theme! And I love your outfit! Fun, comfortable, and stylish. What else could a woman want? I love your masks too! I’m sorry they are causing you so much grief. My mom has made me a couple of cute ones I need to share soon.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Michelle! This outfit is so comfortable! Actually, this little black dress is one of my favorite summer pieces. It’s like wearing a nightie! And I can totally go braless in it without it being too obvious! Woo hoo! Throw a kimono over top and no one knows any better. (I am wearing a bra in the photos here though.) As far as the masks go, I have found that I just can’t go anywhere that requires me to wear a mask for more than about 30 minutes. If I can go take a mask break at that point, I can tolerate it well enough. My kids have been so great wearing them all day in school. Better than I would. I am super proud of them! And yes, let’s see your mom-made masks, please!

Shelbee,
I love your tie dye fringtastic kimono! It’s so fun and has so much styling potential! Your comment about style not being about vanity but about feeling good for yourself really resonates with me! So happy to have you join our group and look forward to all of the upcoming collaborations and themes!

Julie, thank you so very much! As much as I love all the fringtastic things, they really are tedious for daily life! I always get the fringes caught on stuff. And so I don’t wear this kimono very often. And seriously, I love playing dress up every day! It is about fun and happiness and creativity and feeling great…not at all about vanity (well, maybe a tiny bit about that). I am so honored to have been invited to join you and this group of wonderful bloggers! You have all been so kind and welcoming! I look forward to lots more collaborations and getting to know you all more. Have a fabulous week!

That’s a fun mask! And a gorgeous poncho, perfect for summer eves, especially now it’s getting cold so quick.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Nancy! I did splurge on two different tie dye masks because I hate masks so I had to find a way to make it fun! And you know I love my kimonos in summer. But it got really cold here really quickly. I am wearing a long cardigan, jeans, and boots today! Thanks so much for inviting me to join this wonderful group!

Sherry, thank you so much! Tie dye is so much fun. I have always been fan! It is nice when things you love come into trend and they are more available. And yes, you definitely need to hit the purchase button on those tie dye pieces before they are gone!

You look absolutely gorgeous in this outfit. I love it’s simplicity but yet it was so much to offer. I love the darker shade of this blue the dye and then the fringe is just icing on top. Love it all!!!!

Aw, Bo, thanks so much! It is a super simple outfit which is almost out of the ordinary for me, but I love all the little details that make it special. Have a fabulous day, my friend!

I don’t own a lot of tie dye but I am glad I dipped my toes into this trend with my very light pastel tee. Great group collaboration and if you read my post, you have seen that your tie-dye piece was one of my favorites. Love how you styled it. Makes the kimono be the star of the show with the black pieces.
P.S. Welcome to the Stylish Monday Group my friend!
P.P.S. Cannot wait to see our next collab for the 40s ladies. 😉

Ada, thanks so much! This was so fun to see all the different tie dye styles. I love the variety of looks that this group created and am definitely looking forward to all the future collaborations! Heading over shortly to check out your post. I missed it yesterday with all the homeschooling stuff I had to do!
