Diamond Dust Shoes by Andy Warhol | Style Imitating Art
If you are getting bored with your wardrobe options, why not try one of these art inspired challenges to help you get more creative with your styling ideas.
About Style Imitating Art
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, and Marsha of Marsha in the Middle. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as presenter, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the presenter by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the presenter will share all of the submissions on her blog.
You don’t have to be a blogger to join either! In fact, you don’t even have to join but you can still use the art to inspire an outfit just for the sake of trying something different. If you want to share your inspired outfit, we invite you do so on Instagram or any other social media platform that you prefer. Just be sure to tag Salazar, Shelbee, or Marsha or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!
This Week’s Presenter
It was my turn to choose the artwork. I have been wanting to feature something by American pop artist Andy Warhol since I joined this group as co-host three years ago. It only took me this long to decide which of his works to pick.
I chose Warhol’s Diamond Dust Shoes, which is a series of screen prints that he created for an ad campaign for his friend, fashion designer Roy Halston. Because Warhol’s roots are in shoe design and I am a lifelong shoe lover, I decided this was the one. Except there’s more than one to choose from.

Perfect art work right? I also always have loved shoes, since I was a very little girl. I can get totally thrilled over a wonderful pair of shoes!

Indeed! I remember sleeping with a brand new pair of Nike sneakers when I was 5 years old. I was so excited to have them and was upset that I had to take them off for bed so I hugged them all night long instead! That is some serious love of shoes! LOL

This could be a really easy one or a really tough one! I haven’t decided yet. But, I have to tell you every time I think about this, a David Bowie song goes through my head. I can’t think of the name and really can’t “hear” the lyrics, but for some reason I always equate Andy Warhol and David Bowie! Bowie was definitely the better dresser, though!

I have no idea what I am going to wear for this one either! I can totally see why you would make a connection between David Bowie and Andy Warhol. They both definitely embraced androgyny! Maybe that is one way to go for an outfit…a little androgynous! Happy styling, my friend.

Another fun prompt. Shoes!! Some of my best friends are shoes. And all of the colors. Something about the pink shoes against the black background is so eye-popping. Can’t wait to see what you gals come up with!!

Thanks so much, Leslie! I am really drawn to the teal shoes on the black background. I might go with that one for my inspiration, but I also really like the ones with all the colors!
