Celebrating International Women’s Day with Suzy Turner and The Enchanted Midlife

International Women’s Day has been celebrated for over a century to recognize and commemorate the women’s liberation movement and their fight for equality. We have a come a long way since then but we still have a long way to go.

In days of yore, women in midlife who entered menopause were heavily stigmatized as being in a diseased state or “polluted”. Some cultures went as far as to accuse menopausal women of being witches if their sex drive continued beyond their childbearing years. As a result of medical misdiagnoses and uninformed misnomers, women didn’t talk about their conditions or the symptoms they were experiencing during this natural but disruptive life transition. They simply suffered in silence.

In a patriarchal society where a woman’s value was placed entirely on her reproductive capacity, women were regarded as no longer useful once they entered menopause. It diminished an entire gender to nothing more than creatures to be bred. Oh, but we are so much more than that, aren’t we? So much more. But that’s an essay for another time.

I have never been silent about my perimenopausal symptoms. They absolutely suck. They affect every single aspect of my life from severe cramping as I still get erratic and irregular periods to night sweats and constant sleep disruptions. The shift in hormones causes nausea on nearly a daily basis, food aversion is a struggle, and belly bloat is real. But as terrible as it is, it is a constant reminder of just how strong women are. We endure things….the pain, the discomfort, the frustration, the disruption, the annoyance of it all. And we do it with grace and style…most of the time!

My dear friend Suzy Turner also knows how much perimenopausal symptoms suck. She, too, refuses to be silent about the changes that we go through during this stage of our life. She also sees the beauty, strength, and wisdom that midlife women carry in their souls. It is the kind of stuff that has magical qualities as long as we are open to the magic.

As Suzy has been navigating her midlife journey, she wanted to write her thoughts and experiences in a book to share with other women who may need a helpful, gentle, and understanding companion on their own journeys. She chose today, International Women’s Day 2026, as the perfect day to launch her new book, The Enchanted Midlife: Awakening the Witchy, Wise & Wonderful You.

This year’s IWD theme is Give to Gain, which is exactly what Suzy has done! She has given us this comforting midlife companion that made me smile, laugh, cry, nod, and even gave me chills at some parts. I am honored that Suzy invited me to share a little bit about my own midlife journey in her new publication. We give because we can. I have always felt that there is purpose in our pain and that we are obligated to share our experiences with others if it will help them along the way. Thank you, Suzy, for pouring your heart and soul into this beautiful compilation of witchy wisdom.

The Enchanted Midlife: Awakening the Witchy, Wise & Wonderful You
by Suzy Turner
Launching on International Women’s Day

Midlife has a way of waking you up.

In her new book, The Enchanted Midlife: Awakening the Witchy, Wise & Wonderful You, author and creator Suzy Turner invites women to see midlife not as a crisis to fix, but as a powerful turning point — a remembering rather than a reinvention.

Written for women navigating perimenopause, menopause, and the quiet (or not-so-quiet) awakening that often arrives in their 40s and 50s, The Enchanted Midlife blends grounded spirituality, gentle witchy wisdom, and real-life honesty. This is not a shouty self-help book or a rigid programme to follow, but a companion for women who feel “off” even when life looks fine on the outside.

Through personal stories, intuitive practices, reflections, and guest contributions from women Suzy admires, the book explores themes such as intuition, energy, creativity, personal style, soulful nourishment, and learning to trust yourself again — without pressure, perfection, or pretending.

The Enchanted Midlife launches on International Women’s Day, celebrating women stepping into their power, wisdom, and individuality at every age.

Key themes include:
*Midlife awakening and identity shifts
*Menopause as a soulful turning point
*Intuition, energy, and self-trust
