An Easy Early Fall Outfit & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #242
It is my favorite time of year when the season transitions from summer to fall. I love when the temperature begins to drop just enough that a lightweight sweater is comfortable but you can still wear sandals and allow your toes to enjoy the last bit of warmth that the early autumn sun grants us. We only get a few weeks of this kind of weather in the North Country before boots and coats and hats and scarves are daily necessities.
I found this mossy green striped sweater at Old Navy back in the early spring. I was actually done shopping and heading to the register when I spotted it. I was immediately drawn to the beautiful soft shade of green and the subtle bell sleeves. So without trying it on, I grabbed my normal XXL that I have always worn in Old Navy sweaters and threw it on my pile, once again forgetting that I need a smaller size these days. Then I didn’t wear it for months and lost even more weight so by the time I put it on, I was drowning in green and white stripes. So I used that old simple hair tie hack to cinch some of the extra sweater bulk and pull it in at the waist. It may look cute in its oversized state paired with leggings though. I will have to try that next.
Since this is an easy outfit for early fall, I kept the rest of it fairly basic with a pair of cropped boyfriend jeans, braided sandals, and simple beaded jewelry.
As much as I love to put together some crazy outfit combinations, there are just as many days when I wear easy outfit formulas like this one.
I actually shot these photos on an unseasonably cool summer day back in early July.
You might already know that my toes get super cold as soon as fall like temperatures arrive. So I have to share my “at home” version of this outfit as well. When I replaced my braided sandals with tall green striped socks and Fauxenstock sandals, suddenly my style quirkiness is evident again. And sometimes that quirkiness comes out of necessity…like warming my toes.
I also switched out my jewelry from the delicate beaded pieces to more casual leather pieces for at home. The leather jewelry is really lightweight making it very comfortable for at home wear.
I know it probably sounds kind of silly the way I am always switching out my clothes and accessories during the day. But I spend the majority of my time at home so I have the luxury to play around in my closet any time the spirit moves me. And this fashion loving girl is ever so grateful to have a life that allows me such luxury.
Do you have easy outfit formulas that you rely on during the transitional seasons? Do you switch your outfits around multiple times a day like I do?

that’s such a cute knit on you and it looks great belted! I don’t realyl change my accessories at home but I will swap to cosy socks or slippers when I get home (we don’t wear our shoes in the house) every time!
Thank you for the link up!
Hope your week is off to a good start 🙂
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Mica! There is something very appealing to me about this soft green color and the white stripes. It’s a bit preppier than I normally wear, but I still feel great and very much myself in it. We generally remove our shoes in the house as well. It is really kind of gross to walk on your carpets in the same shoes you wear outside. But still we do it sometimes. Ick. I hope you are having a great week so far!

Even though this is an easy outfit it isn’t boring! Looks terrific, I especially like it with the heels of course, I am a heels girl all the way! The sweater is a great find from ON and I love how you tied it. Thanks for the link up Shelbee!

Thanks so much, Kellyann! I can totally picture you styling something similar for the transitional season. I do love to pair heels with a casual outfit for a little extra oomph…until my feet get cold and I need super heavy socks!

Love your views of the transition for fall! I agree!! Thanks for the tip for the sweater that was oversized. Think you’re right that it would likely work well with leggings as well.

I switch all the time. From work out gear, to day outfit, to lounge sets. I think it’s funny how well those socks pair with the lovely sweater. That colour really suits you very well. The jeans are very cool. That’s the way I like jeans and those sandals are fabulous. Sandals like that are so feminine.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Nancy! I also switch from my morning clothes to yoga clothes to comfy loungewear clothes and sometimes a variety of other things in between. I figure I have enough clothes that I could wear a completely different outfit multiple times a day every day for a really long time before I ran out of creative combinations. My closet room is my happy place!

I love that hair tie trick: I use it pretty often but I have tried it with a sweater yet. The sleeves and the color of the sweater are perfect for fall and spring. I am still wearing short sleeves but am wearing my longer pants now. I do love this season as we have some cool weather morning and evening. Still a little warm for my taste in the middle of the day. Just wore my camo dress again yesterday with white leggings. I will be wearing it year round!
http://www.chezmireillefashiontravelmom.com
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Mireille! I usually prefer to just tie a knot rather than using a hair tie, but the sweater was too thick for knotting! It also gave me the opportunity for a really subtle pattern mix…the hair tie is mossy green with white polka dots and I loved the way it paired with the stripes on the sweater. Your camo dress is so cute! I can’t get over that $3 bargain!

Wow! This is the cutest outfit! I love the sweater and I think it ended up being a lucky thing that you grabbed the wrong size because it looks great over sized.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Amy! I have always loved getting cozy in oversized sweaters and such. The real problem with the oversized nature of this particular sweater is that the bell sleeves are also too large and get in the way of everything! But I will still wear it because it’s cute. Have a fantastic day, my friend1

We’ve been having some beautiful Fall weather lately here in Central Florida. It always gets like this right when it’s officially Fall, but it’s usually a trick because the next following or two after will be back to Summer weather. I only wish it would stay.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you, Alexandra! It has definitely turned to fall where I live in northern New York. I have been waking up to temperatures in the 40s…we will be seeing snow soon at this rate! I hope we can both enjoy some extended fall weather this year!

Loving the side knot and they pretty shade of green on you, looks great. I need to try this on some of my tops or sweaters! I love the bf jeans to o for a casual vibe. I just bought some high rise slimboyjeans from madwell that i like loafing in. You are reminding me of ASheville with the socks and birkenstocks 🙂 It works though! 🙂
It is tough as I dont know what to wear some days during the tramsition, but just keep it with the Fall colors.
Have a great day Shelbee!

Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom
That top looks soft and cozy and the greens in it give me all the fall vibes. As you know, I’m at home during the day, too, so I can also make changes to my outfit as I see fit… and, usually it is changes to make it more comfy or cozy! Lol!

shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Carrie! It’s too easy not to change my clothes throughout the day when the closet room is there beckoning me to come play! I usually start out in the dressiest version of my outfit and then slowly change things out through the day to make myself more comfortable. I can’t imagine what women from 200 years ago would say about the size of my closet and the over abundance of options in there! I am definitely spoiled.

What a beautiful shade of green! I have been loving wearing my flip flops with sweaters and sweatshirts. I’m hoping to get away with that combo for another few weeks.

Thanks, Joanne! I hope you can keep your toes out a little longer, too! It is in the 40s in the morning here so the walk to school in the mornings definitely requires cozy feet. I will keep wearing my Fauxenstocks with socks though probably until there is snow on the ground. Happy Fall!

Sheila (of Ephemera)
This is a really cute casual outfit, Shelbee! I love that mossy green colour (my eye colour), and I actually prefer your “house” look vs the sandals. That’s funny about the size – we retain that inner picture of ourselves for so long, that we forget to update it when our outer selves change.
I have a few outfit formulae, but the big one is Jammy Dresses! Dress + shoes = done! Add some fun tights (or plain black), and some jewelry, and you look like a million bucks.
Thanks so much for the link party!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you so much, Sheila! My eyes are this same pale mossy green color, too, which is probably why I was so drawn to the color of this sweater. It really is strange how our brains can’t let go of that size we used to wear when our bodies change. I still find myself always going to the XXL and XL sections of clothing racks. Granted I still need an XL in certain tops and dresses because of my boobs, but I can fit into larges and mediums now, too. It kind of blows my mind really.
Jammy dresses are a wonderfully reliable outfit formula. I love wearing dresses this time of year, too, all layered up with turtlenecks and tights and boots! So much fashionable fun to be add when you can add even more layers!
