I am super late with getting today’s post published because Sunday night I stayed up way too late engaging in some intensely physical pleasures of the carnal nature. It was well worth the sleep deprivation, but my mind and body were so exhausted yesterday that putting articulate words onto a page was nearly impossible so I didn’t even try.

On Friday, I shared a post about the solar plexus chakra work I had done through yoga practice and the responses were so wonderful that I thought I would continue with the other chakras. I have been following Yoga with Kassandra and her yin yoga series for chakra alignment.

Since sex delayed me, the sacral chakra seemed like an obvious focus for me today. The sacral chakra is the second of the seven chakras, located in the center of your lower abdomen just below the navel and in your lumbar spine area in the back. The sacral chakra is the center of our emotions and the center for pleasure stimulation. This chakra plays an active role in our sexuality and the way we express our sexual needs and desires. It is also the center of our creativity and creative flow. This chakra is associated with the color orange and the element of water.

When your sacral chakra is imbalanced, you may feel depressed, detached, indulgent, aggressive, overly sensitive, fearful, or anxious. An imbalanced sacral chakra can also lead to poor boundaries. Physical manifestations of an under active or imbalanced sacral chakra may include anemia, hypoglycemia, lower back pain, joint problems, low energy, spleen and kidney issues as well as severe premenstrual syndrome.

The main function of this energy center is overall enjoyment of life including physical and creative pleasures. When the sacral chakra is balanced and functioning properly, you can expect that your relationships with yourself and with the world will be harmonious, pleasurable, and nurturing. Sacral chakra work will focus on the limitlessness of our creative powers as well as the cultivation of healthy and pleasurable relationships.

Improving the function of your sacral chakra helps you to gain insight into your deepest emotions and default reactions. It will help you to sit in your feelings and recognize their depth and magnitude. When you find more balance in this energy center, you will also become more skilled at self expression and setting healthy boundaries.

Now let’s get to the affirmations from Kassandra’s Sacral Chakra Yin Yoga & Affirmations for Creativity & Sensuality practice. Remember as you read through the affirmations, you are not trying to convince yourself that these are true. You only want to read the affirmation and reflect upon your internal reaction to the words.

If you feel comfortable and calm about an affirmation, perhaps recognizing that it is already true of yourself, then you do not need any kind of focused work in that particular area. But if you have a negative or emotionally charged reaction to an affirmation, then it is probably worth investigating further.

I have found through these practices that I generally have a negative reaction to only a few of the affirmations in each session. Those are the ones that I will take into my counseling sessions so we can dive a little deeper into the reasons for my specific reactions.

*Edit: There seems to be some issues with the graphic appearing properly so here are the 10 affirmations in text form from this practice.

1. I love and enjoy my body.
2. I have healthy boundaries.
3. My creativity is endless.
4. My sexuality is sacred.
5. I am open to intimacy.
6. I allow myself to experience pleasure.
7. My power lies in my sensitivity.
8. I am open and receptive to connection and intimacy.
9. I live life with passion.
10. I nurture my creativity and sensuality.

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you probably already know that I am a highly sexual individual with a healthy and creative sex life. I have no shame in the enjoyment of physical pleasures and I am very open to relationships and connections and intimacy on all different levels. So it was no surprise to me when I did this sacral chakra practice and found myself in full agreement with 9 of the 10 affirmations.

The one that made me feel uncomfortable was number 3. If my creativity is endless, why does it feel so completely limited all the damn time? I know that I am a creative person and I am certain that my creativity is endless in the sexual realm. But that doesn’t help with all the other creative things that I would like to accomplish. I guess I just need to figure how to really tie it all together in my mind so I can channel the creative energy in whichever direction I choose…sexual or not. But perhaps my problem has less to do with creative energy and flow and more to do with motivation and clarity. Those are different focus areas and different chakra work that I need to investigate.

Did any of these sacral chakra affirmations strike a chord with you? Did you have a highly emotional or an extremely negative response to any of them?

About my outfit: I wore this exact outfit on a date back in early June and that night ended in some really creative sexual experiences. When we were out to dinner, I noticed that people kept smiling at me in the best way and much more than normal. It was feeding my energy but I wasn’t quite understanding what all the attention was about. Until I was getting these photos for ready to post. That is when I realized that this outfit screams creativity and I likely would be smiling at the person wearing it as well. These fun tie dye genie pants are another purchase from my new favorite clothing store, Rainbow Zen. They are 100% cotton and feel like jammy pants. Perfect for festivaling, summer date nights, or just hanging around the house. The white kimono is really old, the same one I wore with My Favorite Summer Dress. The metallic sandals pre-date marriage and kids so they have been in my closet for quite a few years. They are still favorites but are starting to show their age through wear.

I am glad that you are finding benefit in these affirmations, Jennifer. I do need to get back to my chakra work as well. I haven’t done any of the chakra practices in a few months. Since I plan to share more posts like this, I guess I should I get through the rest of the chakra practices!

It is interesting how you can be nodding yes and then have a big no. Definitely makes you think about some of these. Thanks for sharing these affirmations and the exercise. Love your fun pants!

Thanks so much, Jill! It is really intersting as you go through affirmations like this…most of them are comfortable and then it is like a slight shock when one hits you in the opposite way! I am all about introspection so I do like to investigate why certain ones cause more significant reactions than others.

There is where you and I differ. (well, and some other things too…lol) I can’t stand yoga! It makes me restless and itchy. I have no patience at all and for yoga you need that I think. But I also think that yoga is good for the body and soul and I wish I had the patience to practice it!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Oh my word, Nancy, that is a terrbile physical reaction to yoga! I definitely can relate to the restless part, but it has never made me itchy! Although I am definitely much more aware of any itches when I am doing yoga. There are some days when my mind is in overdrive and it makes the focus part of the yoga practice quite difficult, but just doing the yoga helps to bring some focus into my mind even if it is only a little. But I feel like you get similar benefits from bicycling and relaxing in your garden! Every person is different and we have to find what works best for us! I kind of want to start bicycling a bit myself…but first I need a bicycle!

I did just two terms of yoga some long years ago and found myself falling asleep on my mat so it must have had been doing some good. I too couldn’t access the link for the affirmations but I did look them up. Yes all very important messages and beliefs for oneself – but I’m now at the age that I water down the levels of creativity! Pretty outfit!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Pamela, thanks so much for sharing your yoga experiences. I fell asleep during my yoga session yesterday! In fact, when I really get into it, I tend to drift off completely during the final resting pose. I just updated the post with the affirmations in text form as well because some others have also had trouble viewing the graphic. I hope you are having a great week!

Thanks for sharing these affirmations Shelbee. I used to do yoga but I never could continue on regular basis..I admire women who religiousely do it and swear by it. Such a fun look, by the way 🙂

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Nora! I have to be consistent with yoga otherwise it isn’t really effective for more. I need both the physical and mental centering that comes from the practice and I really do start to feel icky if I skip my daily yoga. I hope you are having an amazing week!

A great reminder to care for our creativity in a broad way, and our sexuality in a more narrow way. I’ve never felt I was a hugely sexual person (although I still greatly enjoy what we do!), but I tend to channel my creativity in other ways. But achieving balance (which never lasts!) is paying attention to all of it!

I smiled at your sexy times wearing you out – good for you! I love your fun outfit – it is a celebration of your body and your harmonious relationship with your sexuality. Love the cute gold sandals.

Thanks so much for the link-up, Shelbee!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Sheila, thank you so much for this wonderful comment. I am paying for my sexy fun time now with horrible premenopausal PMS complete with morning sickness, migraine, and severe cramps. Oy, the price of femaleness can be pretty steep sometimes! But overall, I am enjoying my femininity, my sexuality, my sensuality, and my creativity when I have it in abundance. Achieving balance and harmony within ourselves and in our lives is paramount to living our best lives. But it is a lifelong process to keep that balance. And so yes, I will celebrate it all!

Really interesting and thought-provoking post, Shelbee! I’ve been looking into a lot of the Chakra’s and spirituality – it’s very intriguing! I think for me, the one about boundaries hit home. I had a lot of issues with this for years and it took a while for me to fully accept that I needed the for my own health. As for creativity, I find that I usually feel blocked when I’m overworked, tired and burnt out. Thank you for sharing this!

Lizzie, thanks so much for this wonderful comment. Chakra work really is quite fascinating and if you embrace the process of it, it can be so rewarding. It took me a long time to learn how to set and maintain appropriate boundaries and my life is so much better because of it! I recently wrote an article on Medium called The Power of No which you may find interesting. I hear you about burnout as well. That definitely kills my creative flow! I hope you are having a lovely week, my friend.

First of all, you’re so cute in these tie-dye pants! I love ’em! They look super comfy, too.

I really need to do more yoga- my exercise regimen is mostly spin with a little weight lifting mixed in, so some yoga would definitely round out my routine! It’s so beneficial!

Thanks so much, Ashley! These pants are as comfortable as they are cute! While you need to round out your exercise routine with yoga, I really need to add some more high intensity stuff into mine! But yoga is such a great starting point for flexibility and strengthening. I hope you are having a wonderful week!

It’s nice when clothes give off happy vibes, and others respond warmly. I was surprised that #3 was a hard one for you to accept, especially since blogging requires a ton of creativity. Also, creativity comes in so many different forms. The guy who invented the flush toilet was creative!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Tina, thanks so much for this lovely comment and for that wonderful perspective! Creativity really does come in so many different forms and I definitely do creative things every day. Maybe my struggle is less about finding the creativity and more about finding the motivation to channel the creativity in a productive way. Hmmm…it is very thought provoking, indeed! And I do appreciate the creativity behind the flush toilet design!

The only one that really gives me pause is #1 but I am working on it… loving the body I am in has been a real struggle for me but I can definitely say I love it more now than I ever have at any other point in my life so that’s real progress!! I am so tickled that my post was most clicked from last week’s party.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Joanne, thanks so much for sharing the affirmation that gives you pause. I have only just recently gotten to the point of loving my body. For me, it is the perspective that it is the only body I get in this life and I had better love and appreciate it if I want it to carry me through the next 50 years! But that kind of self love really is a lifelong process of ups and downs. I hope you are having an amazing week, my friend!

Thanks so much, Cheryl! I really enjoy doing the chakra work, but I could use some outside help from a reiki healer as well! How cool that your friend got pregnant after her chakra rebalancing workshop! That is, if she was wanting to get pregnant. I would not be so happy if I got pregnant now! I hope you are having a fabulous week!

Thanks so much, Debbie! This exercise in affirmations was really interesting. My husband did one of these affirmation sessions with me and he was struck by how powerful the exercise was as well. I find that my first course of action now if I feel anxiety or any unpleasant emotion is to take it straight to the yoga mat! It really gives me so much more clarity to process things. And I am not surprised that you are digging my pants! They are freaking fabulous!

Thanks for sharing this. So very cool. I kind of need this now. I am helping someone I know with their summer camp they run and it is way out my league. Just have a week to go but still, I need all the good juju I can get.

Looking very cool. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you are having a wonderful week.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks, Patrick! I hope you get the extra juju you need to get through the rest of summer camp! If you don’t want to do the whole yoga/affirmation practice, I think just reflecting on some of the affirmations can give lots of insight as well.

Ooh! Hot sex! Love it, and love when others are creating their own joy with it. And OMG! I love those pants! I’ll be visiting Rainbow Zen soon. As for the affirmations, #4 gave me pause. It’s the word “sacred.” I stopped and looked up the definition. And yes, it is the religious connotation that was the problem, given that I am an atheist. But still, I think I understand the emotion that it is trying to elicit. And I’m okay with that.

I totally adore not only your outfit, but your personal empowerment.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Michelle, thank you so, so much for this wonderful comment! I suppose I don’t really apply a religious meaning to the word sacred. I suppose I go with a more secular definition like “something regarded with great respect and reverence by a particular group or individual.” Maybe that helps shift the religious connotation a bit for you! As for Rainbow Zen, it doesn’t look like they have very much clothing available online other than Grateful Dead apparel, but I am thinking if you went to their Facebook page you may be able to get more options that way. By the way, I have been feeling so much more empowered lately when it comes to all of my femaleness! It is an amazing ride!
