A Very Special Souvenir Scarf, the Best Pants Ever & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #228
As much as I love a weekend getaway to unplug and refresh my soul, the mad scramble to catch back up with life’s demands is something that my soul could do without. I always feel like I need a vacation after my vacation to help me ease back into the daily grind. As I am sitting here in the early hours of the morning, which is usually my best time for writing, I seem to be tripping over each and every word as I try to get something typed onto the page. Perhaps I should drink more coffee before I continue. Or maybe I should just blame Mercury in its retrograde period. It messes up all of my communications for the entire 3 week duration. Thankfully today is the final day of retrograde and I am hoping that my words will begin to flow easier as a result.
Remember when my husband went off to Salt Lake City and Yellowstone National Park for his birthday? Well, his amazing girlfriend Mandi picked out this gorgeous scarf for me as a souvenir from Yellowstone. It features a map of the park in the most perfect shades of earthy colors. I was wearing these pants the day we picked Jeff up from the airport when he returned home from his trip and when he presented me with Mandi’s gift, the colors were so perfect with the pants that I knew I wanted to style them together.
I love how when you are connected with people, like really connected, how well they know you and your personal tastes. I have never met Mandi or her partner Calvin in real life, but they truly are two of the kindest human beings that I have ever encountered in my life. At first glance of the souvenir chosen for me, apparently Calvin’s response was that I would absolutely love this scarf. And guess what? They were both right. I love this scarf. I think it is such a meaningful and special gift that I will cherish forever. And hopefully one day, I will get to visit Salt Lake City and Yellowstone, too!
And then there are these pants, the best pants ever. I bought them while Jeff was in Yellowstone at this cool hippie shop in our local mall called Rainbow Zen. There are only four shops that are all located in central and northern New York, but you can order from them online. They specialize in Grateful Dead and all sorts of other tie dye and hippie apparel. They also offer a variety unique artisanal gifts from around the world including jewelry, tapestries, home decor, and artwork.
After buying Jeff a few Grateful Dead tops, I decided to check out what they had in store for me. And I found these pants. They are 100% cotton, super soft, with an elastic waistband and drawstring. I immediately fell in love with the olive green color, the loose wide legged style, and the eastern inspired print. With a very reasonable price tag of $24.95, I decided to make them mine.
“Nothing left to do but smile.”
Jerry Garcia
I wore the pants the very next day after purchasing and seriously fell in love. So madly in love that I went back to Rainbow Zen the following day and bought them in the two remaining color palettes, navy blue with turquoise print and black with grey print. They really do feel like pajama pants and I love the easy flowy bohemian vibe of them. Unfortunately they do not have these pants for sale on their website. But I imagine if you called them, they would probably ship from the store. I am not at all affiliated with this shop, I just really love their selection of clothing and accessories and think it may be new favorite place to shop. I also picked up two pairs of tie dyed pants and a really fun tie dyed sundress as well. Stay tuned for those coming soon…
And then there are the braided sandals I have been obsessed with this season. I shared two of my new pairs of braided sandals with heels here and here that I found on BOGO at Charlotte Russe. But these block heeled ones are my absolute favorite. I also bought these in nude but haven’t worn them yet. Honestly, for shoes with a full retail price of less than $30 these are shoes are incredibly comfortable. I have worn them multiple times all day long with lots of walking and my feet were very happy at the end of the day. No rubbing, no blisters, just plain old stylish comfort. By the way, I also am not affiliated with Charlotte Russe, I am just a fan of the quality and the price point of the products they offer.
What have been some of your favorite finds this season?

What a nice gift! that scarf is beautiufl and it does look so good with those pants – I like how you tied it! 🙂
Thanks for the link up!
Hope that you are having a lovely week 🙂

Thanks so much, Mica! It really was the perfect match with these pants! I had worn the pants three times before photographing them but I always wore them with a long black tunic which looked really cool but the tunic didn’t work with the scarf tied around my waist. I will have to photograph it the other way soon as well though. Have a wonderful day!

Thanks so much, Amy! I am so in love with this pretty scarf. I would love to visit Yellowstone some day as well. We went to Yosemite for our honeymoon way back in 2008 but I haven’t gotten back to that part of the country since then. I hope you get there soon as well!

Strangely both my choices of posts for this week reflect your pants choice – wide leg pants and lime green (close to your shade) Instinctive??
Love your choice – can anyone tell me anything more comfortable than wide legs and an elastic waist? I have pants 20 years old in this style bought from America and they come out every Summer!!
A great look

Ok. First I need a pair of braided sandals. Love those! Second, what a neat gift. I love the scarf and it goes so well with your aweseome pants. I love this color of green, especially paired with black. I do the same when I love a garment – buying it in multople colors or prints! Love this.
Have a great week!

Oh my gosh, Jess, these braided sandals are so great! I wish they had them online so I could link them. I found them in the store and they didn’t have any similar ones listed online. But they really suit by summer boho vibe but transition to dressier styles, too. Isn’t this such a great shade of green? I have always loved this color!

It’s a fun outfit! I totally have failed at shopping less but I am not very sorry about it. My excuse is that my tax refund came in and I had to spend a little as well as save some!

shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Mireille! Yeah, I have shopped way more than any woman should over the past few months! I still have so much stuff I haven’t even worn yet so I have to stop adding more! You know, we are still waiting for our state tax refund and we filed in the beginning of February. I don’t know what the heck is taking so darn long. But it’s all good because I am not shopping with any part of it!

Thanks so much, Cheryl! She is a very thoughtful woman, for sure! And she gives really wonderful gifts. She always knows the perfect thing that someone will absolutely love! She just sent Jeff a beard grooming kit which totally cracked us up. Since he can finally grow out his beard after retirement, it was something he needed but didn’t even really know he needed it!

Rena, thank you very much. This shade of green is one of my favorites ever. It reminds me of the avocado green that was super popular in the 1970’s. I am so glad that I bought 4 pairs of pants like these because I have been living in them on a daily basis lately.

Michele Morin
I need to channel your courage in combining colors and patterns!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Aw, Michele, thanks so much! Honestly, my best advice is to just start combining prints by lying them next to each other and see if the combination appeals to you! Working within the same color palette is really helpful in the beginning as well. Also combining simpler patterns like stripes and dots or floral makes it easier until you get more comfortable with bolder combinations. I hope you are having a great week!

Suzy Turner
OH YEAH! Those pants are absolutely gorgeous. I can totally understand why you went back to buy the other colours! And the scarf…well, it’s simply stunning! What a thoughtful gift to be cherished. I would probably wear it to death lol.
As for Mercury (I think that’s what you said), I had no idea it could affect us like it does. I’ve been having the exact same problems writing as you. And now I know why!!!
I hope you’re having a lovely week.
Big hugs
Suzy xx
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Suzy! I have been living in these pants on the daily! They are so ridiculously comfortable. And cute, too. Oh my gosh, Mercury is no joke when it goes into a retrograde period. It effects all things to do with communication and has a particularly bad impact on those zodiac signs that are ruled by the planet. It is finished now but there is always about a week on both ends of it where residual effects can be felt. The retrograde period ended on June 22, but I will notice the effects until at least the 29th! It gets me in the worst way every time! Pay attention to times when you feel your communication is really breaking down and suffering, then check if Mercury is in retrograde. It generally is the answer I need and then I know to just be patient with myself and others until it’s over!
