A Very Bunny Halloween & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #729

Halloween 2024, Shelbee on the Edge

We had the best Halloween ever!

As we were assembling our Christmas tree ghost at the last minute, my sister called to chat. She lives in Pennsylvania (nearly 300 miles from me) and her town had their trick-or-treat night last Friday, which really disappointed her. But she knows how much fun we always have here on Halloween so she calls in to join the festivities.

When she called this time, I put the phone on speaker because I needed my hands free to attach the ghost’s eyes and mouth. My sis asked what I was doing, I told her I was putting up my ghost tree, and she asked if I needed any help. At this point, Jeff chimed in with something like, “Are YOU gonna help us?” And then we heard her voice behind us, not coming through the telephone, answering, “Yes, actually, I am going to help you!” We spun around and saw her stepping out of her husband’s truck in front of our house! Those little weasels really got us! What a fun Halloween surprise. So my sister and her husband are here for the weekend and I couldn’t be happier.

She conveniently brought with her a blow up bunny costume. Since Jeff and I had not planned our costumes this year, he borrowed the bunny and I dressed up like a carrot. Jeff kept unintentionally scaring people in his bunny costume, too. He was standing in the yard next to the blow up decorations and trick-or-treaters would think he was another blow up decoration. Then he would talk and they would jump! We had endless laughs all night long.

The kids repeated their Teletubbies costumes from last year but added assault gear for a touch of the macabre.

We got gruesomely creative with our candy display this year and everyone seemed to love it.

I don’t know how we are going outdo ourselves next year, but we will have my sister’s help because she said they are definitely coming back for Halloween 2025.

Oh what fun and how wonderful for your sister to turn up, a wonderful get-together! You probably know that Hallowe’en is a lot more tame over here in the UK but we live down a sort of cut-off drive so no-one makes the effort to find us. When we first moved here I was prepared with goodies but then ended up stuffing ourselves and feeling slightly ill the next day!
And thank you so much for featuring my last week’s feature about layering for Fall!

Thanks so much, Pamela! My sister lives in a quiet cul-de-sac so she gets very few trick-or-treaters at her house. This was a totally different experience for her. Our neighborhood gets swarmed with kids for 3 straight hours. Lines actually build up at the houses. It is so much fun!

Jeff in the blow-up bunny costume is hilarious – I bet he did scare people when he started to talk! You in the carrot companion costume is perfect. (Y’all had me at “bunny.”) What a great surprise that your sister showed up for the festivities.

So much fun! We are WAY out in the country and go into trunk or treat hostings with the grandson, it has been fun watching him catch on to “trick or treating”. Ironically he does NOT eat candy or any sweets, the Blessing Box in our tiny town usually gets the rewards. Thanks for hosting, and letting us all come to visit! Have a great week ahead, Melynda @scratchmadefood!

Thanks so much, Melynda! We have a lot of trunk or treat events around us because we are surrounded by farmland. They are such a great idea not only for rural areas but also for the really little ones. Oh, I hope the there were some non-sweet treats for your grandson!

Halloween looks like a lot of fun round your place! Love the decorations. We put out a flashing pumpkin to show we were receptive, and had a steady stream of kids, including our 2 year old granddaughter. Have a great weekend with your sis.

Thanks so much, Gail! Oh, I love seeing the really little kids on Halloween night! They are so cute and they get so excited over everything. Some of the littlest ones loved our 6.5 foot animatronic creepy clown. They would stand there shaking his hand, dancing and clapping every time they made him move and talk. So much fun! I bet you really enjoyed seeing your granddaughter!

Oh Shelbee, you really know how to do Halloween up right! It sounds like you all had a ball. So nice that your sister was able to join you and get in on the fun. Love all of your costumes for the whole family. Jeff’s bunny suit is hilarious! Enjoy your weekend and thanks for sharing!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Aww, thanks so much, Di! Every year, we challenge ourselves to outdo what we did the previous year and now it’s getting bigger than I imagined! We are planning a whole Halloween experience with some of our neighbors next year! Jeff in the bunny suit really was something else. I wish I had some video of him dancing in it!

This is the Halloween post I’ve been waiting for! I wondered what you were going to be doing! I love Jeff’s costume, but yours is absolutely the best (and probably fairly easy). What a good friend you have in your sister and what a wonderful surprise! I think it’s hilarious she was talking to you on the phone as they pulled up! Thanks for the link up!

Aw, thanks so much, Marsha! My costume was really easy! We struggled a little trying to figure out what to put on my head but my niece saved the day with the ivy she has hanging in her bedroom. She pulled it right down and stuck it in my hair with the perfect carrot top solution! My sister could not have planned her drive up to the front of my house any better. The fact that we were standing outside with our backs to the street at that moment was just too good!

What a fantastic surprise from your sister!! What a joy. I showed Gerben the bunny and carrot photo, we had a good laugh. And your boys! What fun. The only thing I did at Halloween, was watching Halloween on the telly, lol.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks, Nancy! It was such a wonderful surprise! We had such a great time. Halloween is always so much fun in my neighborhood. We are planning something even bigger for next year including Halloween movies on an outdoor screen!
