Our style and fashion choices should be a personal reflection of who we really are and the person that we want to present to the world. Are you interested in learning a few simple tips to make your style choices more personal and unique to you? If you implement these four easy methods into your style routine, you will quickly find that your personal fashion choices will stand out as an authentic illustration of your true self.

1. Be proud of your personal style.

The most important thing to wear with any outfit is self confidence. When you exhibit a level of pride in your personal fashion choices, it sends a message to the world that you are confident in yourself and that you take pride in your unique way of expressing yourself through fashion. It does take a certain amount of boldness to be clear and concise about who you are, your current mood, and what you feel great wearing.

I generally get dressed according to my mood. For example, if you wake up feeling patriotic, you may want to consider styling your favorite patriotic shirts. Or maybe you are in the mood for music and so you may want to wear your favorite band tee. If you are interested in curating an enviable collection of band tees that reflect your personality, there are a multitude of websites like EMP that offer an extensive collection of band tees from punk to rock to indie.

2. Opt for customized pieces in your wardrobe.

Nothing makes an outfit a more personal reflection of you than pieces that are customized for yourself. Graphic and printed tees are a fun way to illustrate your mood, your opinions, and your thoughts and feelings. It is such a great way to make fashion your vehicle for communication and inspiration. With the perfect graphic tee shirt, you can show the world what matters to you or you can simply give a hint of your humor through a personalized message on your top. And we all know that the world could use a lot more smiles and laughter these days.

While there are pre-printed tees available online that could match your sense of humor, you also have the ability to create your very own personalized graphics and statements for tee shirts. If you are interested in creating your own printed tops, there are many sites avaialbe that offer this customization service. Just be sure to do your research and read reviews before ordering. You want to ensure that you are receiving a high quality tee with a high quality graphic.

3. Wear your favorite color.

If you have a favorite color, start adding more wardrobe pieces in that hue. Nothing boosts your mood quicker than dressing yourself in a color that makes you happy. For example, if shades of pink make you smile, you may want to consider adding a beautiful pink dress to your wardrobe. Maybe the color red gets you really fired up. Why not look for a bold red hat or bag to add a proper punch of color to your outfits.

It is important to keep in mind that sometimes our favorite colors are not the most flattering against our skin but there are different shades and saturations of every color so you should be able to find the best one for you. If the goal is to add an extra boost of self-confidence, we want to feel good in what we are wearing because feeling good and looking good are directly connected.

4. Be bold, be fearless, be you.

Do not fear your bold fashion choices. If something feels a bit out of your comfort zone, try it anyway. A sense of fearlessness in your personal style will ensure that you are expressing yourself in the best possible way. We do not need to blend in with the masses. Wearing the same styles as everyone else would certainly be a boring existence. As long as you are being true to yourself and your personality, you really can wear whatever you want without hesitation. Simply because you love your own style, you will have confidence in it. And that confidence is what makes every and any outfit look great.

I hope these ideas are helpful little bits to consider as you continue on your personal style journey. I do believe that our personal style is continuously evolving and it is important to sometimes reevaluate what fuels our sense of style. What does your personal style say about you?

Was it wrong of me to chuckle when you were going on about tee shirts accompanied by pix of you in a granny dress?
    ;-D
    Anyhow.

I’d say you’re definitely following your advice. A while ago, I clicked on one of your older posts, from your early blogging days, and that’s an entirely different Shelbee – in looks, in confidence before the camera. All external markers, but I bet there’s been an internal shift as well.

    Stay bold, my friend!
And, happy Friyay! Severo has his first live gig in 14 months today!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Oh my gosh, Anne, no it was not wrong for you to chuckle about that! The article was a prewritten piece and it was odd to me to use these granny dress photos when it was talking about tee shirts, too! But I was scrambling like crazy to get the thing done so I could head away for the weekend! Yay me. I am currently away for the weekend! And how freaking exciting and amazing that Severo has his first live gig tonight! Oh, I do wish him all the best. I hope you have an amazing time! Will it be streamed somewhere? Because I will absolutely tune in if it is!

And I got a little cringey that you clicked on old posts of mine! Haha. I have definitely experienced a multitude of both internal and external shifts since I first embarked on this blogging journey!

Haha. The blog scramble, I know it well. Having link parties forces that kind of thing. Also the IG scramble for IG challenges. I’m in the midst of that experience, and having a blast nonetheless. Slave to my IG grid!!!!! I guess it keeps me organized.

        Kudos for weekend AWAY!
        SO WANT TO ROAD TRIP!!!!!
This summer, it WILL happen. Must be patient.

Don’t be cringey. I’ve got some doozies!

        • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Oh I can’t even venture into the world of IG challenges! Nope. Too much work. Plus I hate IG in general! The link parties serve to keep me organized and motivated so that’s why I keep on with them. I want a road trip, too! I just got a cute tee shirt for this summer that says “Road Trippin'” and I feel like I must wear it on a road trip. I did drive 3 hours to Albany last night and then 2.5 hours to Parish this morning for my weekend festivities and getaway. But I don’t think that qualifies as a real road trip if you don’t leave the state! Haha. Btw, I always cringe at myself and everything I do, so you know, it’s just my way of life! Ha.

          • Anne M Bray

No, anything beyond the county line qualifies as a Road Trip these days. It’s a desperate situation! Haha. Plus, for me, my state is huge. And then there’s PA. Not huge, but seems to take FOREVER to cross. Why is that?

A friend has been bugging me to go visit his cabin in Apple Valley, which is in the high desert, 105 miles northeast between San Bernardino and Barstow (on the way to Vegas). Soon!

I really like IG. Call me crazy. (10,500+ images since 2011!)

          • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Yes! Then I am currently road tripping without my road tripping tee! You think PA takes forever to cross? I find that happens every time I travel through VA. That is a big huge state to get through especially if you travel corner to corner. I hope you take up your friend on that invitation and get yourself some road tripping adventures this summer! And go get ’em on IG, my friend!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks, Mireille, for sharing your personalized style bits! I do like to be comfortable as well! And I almost never wear the same exact outfit combination twice. I will wear things over and over again but I always create a new combination with them. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

You always give the very best advice, Shelbee. I particularly your comment about being being bold, fearless, and being you! You look absolutely gorgeous in that dress, and the hat along with it is sensational! I LOVE it!
As for your fashion favourite last week, Sheila looked FREAKING AMAZING, right?!!
    Big hugs
    Suzy xx

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Suzy! I have learned that the best version of myself is the genuine version and so I will keep being bold and fearless at least in that! And yes, Sheila’s outfit was out of this world! I need a big floofy tutu now!

You have great personal style Shelbee, and I love the boho maxi dress you are wearing in your post today! Thanks for sharinng your tips on personalized styling. I find my style is ever evolving and morphing, since I like to experiment and try new looks. But there is also a sort of base camp of styles in my wardrobe, to wear that I know I love and feel safe, comfortable and confident in. Have a great weeking and thanks for the link up!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thank you so much, Di! I am quite the same as you with an always evolving style but I stick to my specific basics that work for me. It is nice when we know which silhouettes and styles we love the most to make shopping a bit easier. But I also like to try new things and see what happens. It keeps things fun and interesting!

Love all these tips, Shelbee, centered around dressing for YOU! You look super cute in your prairie dress! (We called those granny dresses once upon a time! Lol! They were very popular! And still are!) I, too, love Stella’s fairy look–TOO cute! Happy weekend, my friend!

    xx Darlene

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Darlene, thanks so much! I do love prairie/granny dresses. They are so comfortable and they suit my bohemian soul. As popular as they are though, I do notice a lot of women absolutely despise the look. But I am going to wear it anyway because I love it!

  • Sheila (of Ephemera)

Oh, there’s me! Wow, thanks so much, Shelbee – really, your favourite EVER? I’m immensely honoured and flattered, thank you! I loved wearing that tutu and being fearless in putting myself out there. Not bad for a 53 year old chick!

I have a rule with band shirts – you can only wear them if you’ve seen the band live (this keeps me from having too many!), and only ones that I’ve bought at the show. So my Iron Maiden, Frank Turner, Lydia Loveless, Lindi Ortega, Mountain Goats…all get worn (mostly to sleep in, but sometimes they sneak into an outfit). My Clash tee does not (although I do sleep in it too).

These are some great guidelines to feeling more like YOU in your clothes, instead of a representation of whatever trend is big at the moment. Being fearless is the biggest hurdle for most of us, I’d say. So many people are afraid of what others will think if they wear a bright colour. Funny you mentioned a pink dress – I’m wearing one today – although I’m sharing my shopping outfit from yesterday on the link-up party. Thank you so much for hosting!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Sheila, thanks so much! And yes, maybe my fave outfit ever! I love the flouncy poofy tutu and I really need to get one for myself! I have shopped online for them many times and I get overwhelmed with the color choices and end up never ordering. As far as band tees go though, I do not have that same rule mostly because crowds are very uncomfortable for me so I rarely attend concerts (only small festivals for me)! But I still like to wear my fave bands on my chest even if I never saw them live! I have been working on being more fearless these days. I thought I was already fearless but I have realized that I do worry sometimes how people perceive me and my style. But I am always a work in progress so I will continue on being as fearless as I can!

      xoxo

What a amazing dress that is! I love it! And it really looks fabulous on you! The color, the print, fantastic! Have a great time!

  • Kellyann Rohr

I love this dress, my favorite style. I agree, self confidence is key no matter what you’re wearing. You embody this concept my friend and own all of your looks which I love and admire!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thank you so much, Kellyann! I had a feeling that you might like this dress! I am definitely working on improving my self-confidence so that is wonderful to know that it is coming through! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

You have great personal style and love the look. It reminds me of Telegraph in Berkeley when I was a kid. Very nice.

Thanks for hosting and I hope that you are having a wonderful weekend.

  • Cheryl Shops

This is all solid advice, Shelbee. My favorite color is pink and for a long time I stayed away from wearing it because I’m a 43-year-old woman, but you know what? Life is short and wearing pink makes me happy, so I’m doing more of it! Love this boho look on you too!
    Cheryl Shops | http://www.cherylshops.net

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Cheryl! You absolutely should wear pink! With all the silly style rules put out with regard to age, limiting the colors we love to wear is probably one of the silliest of all the rules! What craziness! We should all wear the things that make our souls happy and if pink is what does it, by all means, wear all the shades of pink!

      xoxo

  • Grace

I love this outfit Shelbee, you look like a bohemian princess! The color and pattern of this dress are so pretty. I like all your tips, too. Lately I’ve been feeling kind of self-concious about my style! I feel like I’ve been dressing too old for my age, which is so weird, because I’ve never felt that way before. But oh well… guess I just need a little more confidence and fearlessness!
Thanks for joining last week’s linkup. 🙂

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Grace! I definitely go through phases where I feel self conscious about my style. Except I am always fearful that I dress too young! But you know what? Who cares, my friend. Wear the things that make you happy and make you smile and glow. Remember style is ageless and you can wear whatever the heck makes you feel great!
