Mixing Up Patterns with Zaful & Link Up On the Edge #29
Lately, I have really been on a pattern mixing kick and I have been trying to add some brighter colors to my outfits, too. So when I saw this Paisley Printed Fleece Coat from Zaful, I knew it needed to be mine!
*Coat and necklace were gifted to me from Zaful in exchange for a review. All opinions stated in this post are my own and are in no way influenced by the company.
When it arrived, I was even more pleased with the coat then I was from the pictures. The colors are super vibrant and the print is so adorable and fun. The fabric is a light twill with a very heavy fleece lining, which is perfect for the North Country winters. I went with the size 4XL so I would have lots of room to layer underneath it.
The coat also features really big patch pockets on both sides which hold everything I need when running from the car to the school to drop off and pick up children. I hate to carry a purse from the car, but I need to have my keys, my phone, my gloves, the kids’ mittens (which they always refuse to put on but then want 10 seconds later), and a stack of business cards! Plus who doesn’t love pockets?!
I also wanted to show off this new dark chambray shirt dress that has just been added to Shelbee’s Shoppe. It is perfect for layering over another dress as a jacket or worn buttoned and belted as a dress by itself. And even better, it is available in sizes Small through 3XL.
To challenge myself with some fun print mixing, I wore this green and navy striped skater dress over navy textured tights. The colors paired perfectly with the accents in the paisley print on the coat. The background color of the coat is actually black, but the fleece lining is navy which works for me because then I can wear either a black or navy based outfit with it. I added a brown belt at the waist to create some definition as I literally am shaped like a rectangle! I also liked how the brown pulled in the yellows from the paisley print. So I added brown booties and a brown faux suede choker. I have been wanting a wrap choker like this for quite some time, so when I saw that Zaful one, I added it to my order.
I am pretty sure I have lots of things in my closet to pair with this super fun coat! And it is so comfortable and warm which is going to make this my favorite casual go-to coat this winter, for sure! Unfortunately, the black is sold out but it is still available in red. I may need to order the red, too! I really do love it that much!
Plus paisley is my favorite pattern ever! So the more paisley in my wardrobe, the happier I am. Speaking of favorite patterns, I have been wondering lately if there has been a personality study ever based on what patterns appeal to a person aesthetically. I am just very curious about that…because there are certain patterns and prints that I absolutely love and there are others that just really do not strike my fancy in any way. And even some that offend my eyes to a certain extent! If anyone knows of such a study, I would love for you let me know! What’s your favorite pattern or print?

This coat, Shelbee!! It is such the perfect statement coat—because what wouldn’t go with it?
What a find!!
And I love wearing my denim shirtdress like this—if fact, that’s really why I bought it–to wear more as a duster!!

Thanks so much, Jodie! I am so in love with this coat. I seriously may order the red one, too! I usually style all of my shirt dresses this way because they never close correctly over my boobage! Ha! #bigboobproblems

Thank you SO much for the feature!! 🙂 I love that brightly colored jacket! I really could use some new jackets/coats, I didn’t buy any new ones this year and I regret it. I would love a fun one like that. It looks great with that dress, too!

Perfect pattern mixing! Love that coat, and I really like how you opened up the denim dress to use as another layer. So pretty! Hope you have a great weekend!

Lana, thank you so much for the lovely compliment! I almost always wear shirt dresses open on top of another layer because I have #bigboobproblems! The buttons never close quite right!
Have a fabulous weekend.

Ha. I would say the “offensive” prints are either poorly designed or not in colors that you like. You’d be amazed how a print changes by just changing the colors! Or even the placement of the colors — case in point: http://repeatsamb.blogspot.com/2012/05/color-placement-is-everything.html
That jacket looks yummy. I might need one. Because we think 60º is cold in LA.
😉

Only $31.00?? WHAT?
I got the red one. We can be twinsies, coast to coast.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Anne, I LOVE that you got the red one! The red wasn’t even an option when I ordered the black. Which is probably good because I would have had a hard time choosing. Yay to coast to coast twinning! I can’t wait to see how you style it.

Wow, Anne! That is crazy! I just stared at those 3 patterns for about 5 minutes and while I do like all three colors, I definitely favor the darker teal over the lighter blue and the light green so the the pattern where the teal is the most prominent pattern is definitely the most appealing to me. But I also have less of an affinity for hard lines such as Aztec prints and geometric shapes and I very much love less uniform and more fluid patterns like paisley, florals, and tie dye. On the other hand, I do love stripes and polka dots which I guess could be consider hard lines and geometric shapes respectively. And so< I was wondering if these preferences indicate anything at all about personality traits! I know that's silly, but I still find it quite interesting. Thank you for sharing this. And this jacket will most definitely keep you warm in 60 degrees. But it was like 40 degrees at night when I was there. I was freezing! xoxo Shelbee

Lovely coat! Big pockets in a coat score extra points from me – I’m always in a rush on the morning school run and run out of the house without a bag. The colours are very bright and cheery 🙂 The chambray shirt dress looks great over the green striped dress.

Hahahaa, I love that you have incorporated title posts on your featured looks (I have done that too from the beginning). I love all the three outfits you featured, too. By the way that paisley green, purple and yellow coat is gorgeous and looks cozy. I have an almost identical striped green dress which means we would have to do a how-to-style-2-way post for March since March is the month of Greenery lol.

Lovely coat… I really like it when people decide to spice up their winter wardrobe, there’s way too many people with thick woolen coats where I live now. We all should add some colors and patterns to the gloomy winter
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
I agree with you completely, Asterienne! We need to inject a little color into these cold, dark winters. Plus colors look so beautiful against the snowy white background! Thanks so much for stopping by and for the wonderful comment!
